LENNOXVILLE — This community has been plagued with a rash of break-ins in the last two months, but two members of the gang who are possibly responsible for six of the last 10 breaking and enterings were arrested over the weekend An adult and a juvenile, both males were picked up just before dawn Saturday morning, following two break-ins at two local businesses. Both have been charged and will be processed through Court of Sessions on three counts of breaking and entering each Two counts for each stem from break-ins during December and January.Police received a call about a broken window at G.L.Beaulieu Inc., a grocery store on Queen St., at 12:01 a m.While the constables were checking with the By BRUCE PORTER (Record Reporter) owner to see if goods had been stolen, thieves were using the diversion to break into Canadian Industries Ltd.(CIL) on Massawippi St.There, Lennoxville police chief Kryszak stated, they broke into the wall safe but found nothing. They then proceeded to take drills, wrenches, flares and other tools from the warehouse.About 3 a m., thieves broke into Bown Lumber Inc.but were scared off when a look-out spotted the police cruiser approaching on its rounds.Nothing was taken in the second break-in.Most of the tools from the CIL robbery were recovered when police searched the Bown Lumber area for the suspects.Lennoxville police are still looking for three suspects believed to be members of the group which has been responsible for the majority of recent break-ins The chief of police denied that last Thursday’s breaking of a window at the Perrette store had anything to do with the same gang.He said someone had come out of the pub and thrown a beer bottle through the plate glass and that it was just van dal'sm.A third break-in early this month or late last month netted thieves close to $3,000 in stereo and camera equipment. The people living in the apartment which was broken into were away for 10 days and discovered the foul deed on June 6.Both breaking and entering suspects, after giving declarations, were set free on promises of appearing in court Broadcasters call on CRTC to control cable industry OTTAWA (CP) Domestic well as higher housing costs, helped push the consumer price index eight tenths of one per cent higher in May, Statistics Canada said today. After steadily declining in each of the previous four months, beef prices rose again in early May Fresh fruit and vegetable prices also were up sharply The higher food price rise was expected The Food Prices Review Board, which has started compiling its own monthly price reports, had noted the trend two weeks ago.It said meat, vegetables, fruit and dairy product prices were rising more quickly than had been expected The board’s index is based on a weekly monitoring of food price changes and is published within a week of the most recent survey. It covers about 85 per cent of the food items the consumer price index contains Statistics Canada’s report is based on a survey done about a month ago It says the rise in the food index during May was the largest for any month this year, but still is well below the rate of increase in the comparable 1974 period. The food prices board is predicting about a 15-per-cent rise in food costs this year Higher costs for housing also were an important factor in the May change in the overall index, accounting for about one-quarter of the increase. These higher costs applied to both owned and rented accommodations, Statistics ('anada says.Quebec, Ontario to watch flow of dead animal meat TORONTO
