I think at this time I should point out to the people in the area that I received only one letter from the whole district Mrs Roy Thoms. The Leaders following a series of shows I were presented with gifts of did concerning the rights of Roman Catholics and Separate Schools.Contrasting this with many letters received from communities much smaller in Ontario, you can see that Shawville has nothing to be ashamed of.As a matter of fact, it is quite obvious that the people in Shawville and a- dy Plants rea are much more concern- table decoration, which was ed than many people else- later forwarded to Mrs.A.C.where.When I read letters F.Winslow in “Cap’s” mem-from other communities, in ory.some cases several letters from a community, I received very little response whatsoever.I would like to say that just because one or two people in a community as large as that, feel the way they do, it is nothing for anyone to be ashamed of, except perhaps the people conceited, and one cannot always blame them since education, I’m sure we all agree, plays a major role in this kind of thing.I personally am extremely proud to live in the are*!, especially recently since so many people have made such obvious attempts to try and understand the other side.I think that if all parts of Canada could get a glimpse of wh 1 > going on in Western Quebec these days, we would b a much stronger nation for P.Yours trulv ing Mrs Robert Bronson and Mrs Percy McKibbon were appointed to audit the books.Mrs Urban Curley and Mrs Edward Kennedy were nam ed the Nominating Committee.Mrs Percy McKibbon is in charge of Red Cross sewing, with some still to be complet Scout and Cub leaders and their respective wives, husbands and sons filled one table and a sincere vote of appreciation was extended the Leaders as they were presented and enthusiastically applauded. The hard-working Leaders include Hodgins and his Assistants ried program his group is pre-Ron Richardson and Gerry St sently enjoying and the proPierre. 1st Pack Cub Mistress jects they hope to accomplish ants Mrs George Knox and Mrs Doug Campeau; 2nd Pack Cubmaster Harold Davis and Assistants Neil Sharpe and experiences.Mr Stones closed the evening program with a fervent request to the more than 75 fathers present that they en- deavor to attend the Open Group Committee meeting held every September at the beginning of the Scouting season.(12 to 15 is about the usual attendance number)! held at the Fairbanks Hotel by the Lions Club of Quyon The primary purpose of this gathering was to honor Zone Chairman Clarence Wall on the occasion of his official visit to the club, as well as to honor Past District Governors Jack Cherry of West Ottawa Lions and Charlie Imison of Shawville Lions (February is PDG s month I.At the head table were Lions Gus Peppard and wife Rose, PDG Jack Cherry and wife Julie, President Stan Cal l ighan and wife Deanna, Zone Chairman Clarence Wall and wife Verna, PDG, Charlie Imison and wife Muriel, Dr Bob Hudson and wife Hilda. This head table was introduced by Lion W J.Stanton.An analysis has been made I exactly what the effect of the of the expected Increase in mill will be on traffic but local truck traffic on Highway some reasonably indicative fi-8 due to the construction of Rures of traffic loads which the Pontiac Mill Until there might be expected have been lias been one or two years ex-1 suggested, pericnce with the new mill it will not be possible to state The number of trucks travelling over the road will depend on the type of vehicle used, ranging from a three-ton truck as used by tree farmers to the large five axle tractor trailer combination. For shipment of the finished pulp there could be from 400 to 1500 trucks per year of the five axle variety. For pulp wood deliveries about fifteen thousand truckloads of wood will come to the mill each year.About eighty per cent of these trucks will cross into the Province at Portage du Fort. The rest will come down Highway 8 from Sheenboro and from Otter Lake through Campbell’s Bay in about equal numbers, being about 1500 loads from each. There will also be about 2100 truck loads of saw logs delivered to the company mill at Waltham, about half entering the Province by the Pembroke bridge and the rest evenly divided between sources from beyond Sheenboro and from sources above Otter Lake. This means that Highway 8 between Campbell's Bay and Sheenboro will carry about half of these trucks.Incoming bulk shipments of supplies to the mill will amount to approximately twenty trucks each week. There will also be normal truck deliveries by local transports such as Brady Bros and Ov-Jlemite Express of parcels and equipment and supplies. There will also be an increase in the number of private vehicles using the road. There are now over four hun-I tired permanent employees working at the mill and at the Woodlands Division office. These employees will be visiting and receiving visits from family and friends who live outside the area and will be using Highway 8 for its full length. At the present time the entire road from Aylmer to the Portage du Fort bridge is classified as second class road on which half loads apply during the spring thaw period. This results in substantial additional costs to industry, according to Mr S.C.Belson, comptroller, Pontiac Division of Consolidated-Bathurst Limited.Mr.Belson has provided this information to the Chambers of Commerce of Quyon, Shawville and Campbell’s Bay to strengthen their request for a new highway. He states that consideration should be given to having the roads upgraded or re-classified as Class “A” roads and has mailed a copy of the above information to our Provincial Member of Parliament, the Hon Raymond Johnston.A à 1 r HIGH TRACTION { i I I I i I III # â I I I I # / J I I 1
