After lunching at Sheas Restaurant the party boarded the dayliner again and journeyed to Waltham and then back to Ottawa, going about thirty miles an hour so as to take in all the beauties of the Pontiac countryside.But the biggest stir was when they stopped over in Shawville and all the passengers got qut and took a hundred pictures of the old Shawville station.Townspeople wondered what in the * world* was going on, and nobody ever did find out exactly.The grapevine tells us the group were railroad buffs who take an annual excursion into the hinterland to see historic things and this year’s trip brought them this way.We have long felt that a dayliner would be a most economical and useful addition to the local scene.People could commute to Hull end Ottawa, working there and still enjoying the advantages of living in our own villages, thus getting the best of two worlds.The CPR would have to lose money for a couple of years while people caught on to the idea and rearranged their lives accordingly.But eventually it would work well for the railroad and the communities of Pontiac and also permit a lot of city dwellers to move into this part of the country.The spectacle of that dayliner on die tracks last Sunday brought this notion to mind once more.Also the spectacle of all those interested tourists photographing our station brought to mind the fact that it was a good thing we didn’t let it be demolished as planned last year.* % \\ laac y I?» ¦ mi V 4 4- k % i 4 ' ’ # 4 Ï '- M 7 t mFW K fi y“;
