Record Quebec City corres pondent Rod MacDonell’s column on happenings around the National Assembly moves to Townships Week.The speaker of the national assembly, Clement Richard, proudly presented an impressive government publication to the press last week.The book, an 800 page digest, contains the biographies of the 1,331 deputies who sat in the National Assembly between 1867 and 1978 A team of six researchers pored over government documents for five years, inspected cemetery headstones, and performed the impossible task of writing a profile of every elected MNA since Confederation Two deputies had been given prison terms following their years of political service.Townshipper Gaston Ledoux, who represented Shefford riding from 1952 to 1955, spent five months for receiving stolen goods and being an accessory to a robbery.Ledoux died in 1970, and is buried in Magog's St.Patrice Cemetery.One deputy drowned in a boat bringing him to his Magdalen Island riding.Another fell under the train on arriving in his home town of Chicoutimi.Andre l^voie, the assembly’s information director, says that he expects the book to be translated into English.The value of the book to sociologist, historians, political scientists and the public more than justifies the cost of translation 2,000 copies of the digest have been printed, and it is expected that another printing will follow.It is worth the $20 for any student of political history in Quebec, -f’ '4- ¦f' Federal Minister of Agriculture.Eugene Whelan was in Quebec City last week to meet with his provincial counterpart, Jean Garon Whelan, who shares the same Irish Canadian background as Garon, said, “The only difference between the two of us is that I recently went on a diet and lost 50 pounds.” 1 asked Mr Whelan if St.Francois MNA Real Rancourt was correct in stating that the federal government had reduced budgets at the Lennoxville Experimental Farm.“It's a lot of baloney" said Whelan, “our experimental stations have not been affected by government spending cuts." + "f- + Welfare payments will cost the provincial governments $1 billion this year.According to the Social Affairs Department, 80 per cent of welfare recipients are able to work The plan is to make those people look for jobs One means under consideration is to decrease gradually the amount of the welfare check in order to push recipients in the direction of the active labor force As a condition for receiving benefits, the government is considering mandatory registration for every recipient at the Manpower office.People receiving federal unemployment insurance are subject to the same obligation to seek employment What both governments seem to forget is that there are no jobs available.At one point last year there were an available 60,000 jobs in Canada, with one million out of work, or six openings for every thousand persons without work.Fortunately, the mentally and physically handicapped will not be affected by these proposed measures When will governments stop attacking the unemployed and start attacking unemployment?+ + + Next Wednesday Pierre Berton will visit this province's capital to address the Quebec Anglophone Community for the No Vote.The theme of the rally is "Standing up to be Counted", and the historic Chateau Frontenac will host another pro-federalist rally.Finance Minister Parizeau might have to change his watering-hole if this keeps up.Herbert Marx, Gary Ouellette, Michel Lamoignan and Gerard D Levesque will also be speaking to the anglophones of the Quebec region.This event will mark the first involvement of celebrities from English Canada in the referendum.4- + + The problem of leaked documents is something that all democratic governments must endure.Civil servants dissatisfied with their masters slip items to the opposition or to the press to embarrass their politician / JEAN GARON .meets Whelan A* GABON LEDOUX .robbery sentence bosses.Richard Nixon's administration lost credibility when the Pentagon Papers were delivered to the New York Times.Robert Bourassa couldn't plug the holes during his term as the leaks reached flood proportions.Quebec civil servants torpedoed his scandal-ridden government.Although nowhere near the magnitude of the Bourassa days, Premier Levesque has to do some leakpatching of his own.Liberal MNA Michel Paget, a young parliamentarian endowed with the jugular instinct has received leaked documents,and has made the government look silly.One such leak dealt with partisan government hiring practices.Levesque was forced to concede that normal job interviews are not always conducted before a candidate is hired.The premier denied yet another leak that he had personally called in the Quebec Police Force to trace the source of the leaks.Levesque added that it was possible that someone else requested the investigation.Lee’s latest is great but Pride’s produces muzak Even Better; Brenda Lee: MCA Records; MCA-3211.This is a marvellous album Ten good songs made superb by Brenda Lee's ability to arouse and expand your emotions Writers must be ecstatic listening to her lift their lyrics off the paper and infuse DALLAS HARMS .good songwriter them with passion, Lee's country contralto wraps around your heart, tugging steadily at your feel ings.never being overly dramatic ; always tastefully controlled, confident she can pull every nuance of feeling from each word The musicians are strong, but not overshadowing Bergen White's string arrangements are most supportive, and producer Ron Chancey pulls the whole thing together.Easily one of the best country albums I've heard so far this year.T' There's A Little Bit of Hank In Me; Char-lev Pride: RCA Records; AHL1-3548.This album starts out strong and turns into Muzak.By the time we get to “Why Don’t You Love me," the second last song on side two, the music sounds like an out-take from the old Sing-A-Long-with-Mitch TV show Too bad! Charley Pride certainly has the voice to do the songs of Hank Williams justice.But Pride's emotions don't appear to have been wrought with anguish, as was the case with Williams, so the wailing, blues power of Williams' lyrics and melodies are diluted.There's also too much use of The Jordan-aires' vocal accompaniment, and Bergen White's string arrangements are syrupy There's no gut feeling.Pride fans, however, will enjoy the album.but Williams' fans will prefer the real thing Country music BY DAVE MULHOLLAND Just Margo; Margo Smith; Warner Brothers: QBS-3388.Margo Smith has shown considerable improvement during the past couple of years.This album mixes a few strong songs with a few mediocre ones, and an embarrassing narration It's contemporary country.At times there's a contrived feel to the songs ; about as contrived as the picture of Smith on the back cover But she more than redeems herself with "I’m Tying the Leaves Back on the Trees, Jesse”."The Shuffle Song", which is her current single, and "Let s Build A Fire and “Night Flight", both of which would make good singles.Smith has a distinctive soprano, and seems to bring a lot of character to her music.She should insist upon a producer who brings out that character, rather than glosses over it.Painter of Words; Dallas Harms: Broad-land Records; BK-2052.As a vocalist, Dallas Harms has the most disconcerting habit of singing with affectation.He tries too hard.At times his singing is as posed as the pictures on the front and back of the album jacket.He sounds much better in person than he does on record, because his baritone has more timber to it.In some of these songs he sounds as if he’s imperonating Whispering Bill Anderson However, Harms is a good songwriter and the ten songs here certainly indicate that.Although he occasionally allows his writing to become maudlin, his lyrics por tray the warmth and tension of relation ships.His stories about the complexities of love have a ring of reality.From the Heart; Janie Fricke: Columbia Records; JC-36268.This is Janie Fricke s third solo album Once again she shows exceptional ability as a vocal technician, but the music still doesn't have a distinctive personality.The 10 songs are nice, but she approaches each one w ith a delicate sameness that becomes tedious.What does Fricke believe in?What does she really think about male/female relationships?Who is Janie Fricke?She may know the answers, but, if so.she has yet to make them a part of her music. TOWNSHIPSWEEk FRI APR 1|, )980 j L’Atelier’s ‘Aquarium’ refreshingly un-American By DONNELLY In an era when nationalism is at its peak, it is refreshing indeed to see a local theatre going beyond parochial parameters for two of its four plays this year.L'Aquarium, written by the Piedmontois playwright Aldo Nicolai, is a delicate comic drama that exudes a very European flavour while touching on a universal theme.No sooner is light shed upon the drab, compactly cramped kitchen occupying half the stage than we are miraculously transported from the summer-stock atmosphere of the Theatre de l'Atelier to a typical European walk-up inhabited by a typical Italian family.The rest of the set is faithful to first impressions.A significant portion of the stage serves most convincingly as a compartmentalized grey-tinged office.Romantic encounters take place by a lamplit park bench which hugs one corner while, off-stage, a quaint cafe-terrace is the local male hang-out Through Michel Bernier's imaginatively set decor and lighting, the limitations of the Atelier's facilities are overcome.The absence of a natural stage is turned to advantage and versatility more akin to a film studio is demonstrated This parcelling out of the stage area into permanently identifiable locales also serves a purpose more integral to the story.It can be seen to represent the truncated elements of Celestin's life.Returning home from the army.L'Aquarium's central figure is pressured by his mother and sister to conform to the expected pattern - get a job.marry and raise children.His sister’s husband lines up a dull, stultifying job in the Italian bureaucracy and Celestin, whose head is still in the clouds, reluctantly embarks on the treadmill His only reprieve from a meaningless routine at work and nagging domination at home is the single-minded attention he lavishes on a long-cherished dream to become a fisherman.Under the annoyed, resentful eyes of a materialistic mother and sister, his small fish bowl grows over the years into an elaborate aquarium.These symbolize for Celestin a pure, ennobling life beyond his reach.Twice during the play's long span, this dream of life at sea looms on the horizon of possibility.Each time it is squelched by the confining realities of married life and fatherhood But where the play is a slice of life as many knowr it, its climax assumes surrealistic proportions.The eight-member cast does a thoroughly credible job with roles that are characterized more by stereotype than detailed configurations.Rene Lefebvre as Celestin has the most room to kick around.He matures from a heel kicking, idealistic youth almost to the point of resigned adultery.He is dutiful and submissive, yet when pushed too far rises to the occasion.Transported by dream and illusion, he even carried off some poetic moments.Like Murray Schisgal’s The Typists, which L’aquarium's office scenes often recall, Celestin and his fellow clerical workers, Mattea and Tranquilli, go through the routine motions while more existential concerns prey on their minds.Diane Miljours plays the love-starved Mattea with a fin-de-siecle desperation that is most appealing Serge Christiaenssens’ Tranquilli, a faithful flunky with a comical lisp and small ambitions, generates some of the play's funniest moments.Portraying a man well beyond his own years, Christiaenssens is both convincing and endearing.On the home front, Michel Mongeau grates in his portrayal of the brother-in-law, Alberto.He is the spectre of Celestin's future, a man who has realistically accepted his role as husband and breadwinner but survives by keeping a little something on the side.Mongeau is too smug with Alberto's lot to project the straightjacket aspect.Louiselle Fortier, a local celebrity seen regularly on both French TV networks, lacks subtlety as Alberto’s wife and Celestin’s acquisitive sister Her Diana is too heavy-handed.but then her proscribed role makes fuller characterization difficult, Denise Tessier manages to bring off the ambitious connivings of Amelia, Celestin's wife, behind a deceptive innocence.And France Arbour as the rotund, whiny Italian mother is so persuasive that the actors who make up her extended family even eat up all their spaghetti at her behest.Short and sweet is Jean-Pierre Roy’s role as one of Celestin’s cronies.He plays his part like Steve Martin's “wild and crazy guy“ from Saturday Night Live more for comic relief than pathetic loneliness With expansive direction from Pierre Gobeil, the Atelier’s artistic director and clearly a man who appreciates the play's European context.L'aquarium moves along nicely, covering a long period of time with frequent scene changes Towards the end, however, the recurring black-outs become somewhat tiresome It’s a long play and the fatigue is increased by more than one false ending.The set design creates insular spaces which reveal the total world of the central character Gobeil emphasizes the trapped mood by crowding his actors into them.In fact, at times they teeter dangerously on the edge of the various levels.A trifle distracting The cramped quarters, despite what some of the characters would have us believe, convey a sense of confinement that is inescapable And yet, the surprise ending does provide playwright Nicolai with an eerie way out L'aquarium is certainly an enjoyable play, the French easy to follow, the tone refreshingly un-North American For a pleasant evening’s entertainment, L'aquarium is worth the plunge L Aquarium's entire cast offers a toast to a predictable future dlfi Ï inr» via a S | So?|f Ï S i ?Com m o c/2 'OJ 2 T = I i i E "«5 s o — O S £ o a a 2 S' s h» i n trr m n.BUCK AND DOE RESTAURANT SPECIAL WELCOME TO OUR CANADIAN FRIENDS DINNER SPECIALS BAIL Superb Food — Impeccable Service."A REALLY NICE PLACE TO EAT' MODERN DECOR RESERVATIONS APPRECIATED OPEN YEAR ROUNDI ”WE SERVE COCKTAILS’’ Your Hosts: Ronald A Melon Langford 135 Main St„ ISLAND POND call: (802) 723-4712 A Spring Hours: RESTAURANT APRES LA CHUTE Thursday through Sunday from 5 p.m.BAR LA GROSSE POMME Every night at 7 p.m.CABARET & DANCE Thursday through Saturday 9 p.m.Boogie - MAGOG - 843 9365 4—TOWNSHIPS WEEK-FRI , APR 18, 1980 POP MUSIC Mahogany Rush: Marino cool as 48-concert tour underway MONTREAL (CP) — Veteran rocker Frank Marino formed his own band when he was 15, about 10 years ago.Since then, Quebec-based Mahogany Rush have been almost full-time travellers on the grinding American rock circuit.The group's ninth album, What’s Next?, was released in early March, just as the band started its most arduous rock tour yet — 48 concerts in 57 days throughout the U.S.People have been predicting big things for Mahogany Rush for years but the band has yet to produce that platinum hit album that would launch Marino and cohorts Jimmy Hyoub, Paul Harwood and brother Vincent Harwood to real stardom.Sitting in his favorite haunt in the old working-class Point St.Charles district of Montreal, Marino, the lead guitarist, professed an almost philosophical patience as he readied himself for the tour.“I’m a veteran and yet I’m only 25 I haven't put in this much time for nothing I look upon this year as a building period.“Next year should be the year we really break out." Despite his curiously anachronistic hippie appearance, Marino talks like a young man who knows exactly where he’s going.Relaxing in Montreal between tours, he had been producing an album by Quebec rock-disco queen Nanette Workman and his New York management has assigned him to produce a couple of new acts.He also has high hopes for the group’s new album “It’s going to be a lot easier playing this album on stage than some of our earlier records, where I tried to show how versatile Frank Marino was (with electric pedal, synthesizers and the like.) This one concentrates on raw energy “It’s more of a team effort, just one lead, one rhythm guitar and a minimum of overdubs.” Touring is the same old grind, but consistently its own reward with increasing exposure to greater numbers of record buyers.GRIND PAYING OFF “There’s not much chance to do anything while touring.You’re up at seven to get to the place you're playing that night.You’re picked up by a limousine, you go to the hotel, freshen up, then go to the sound check, then you change and get ready in the dressing room.“After the show you might meet back at the hotel bar, go to bed late, and start all over again the next day." Still, the grind has paid off for Mahogany Rush, which Marino describes as basically financially secure “You have to be prepared to stick with it.There’s a lot of talent in Montreal, but I just hope to God they stop hanging out in bars complaining they never made it." He holds the most hope for fellow Quebec musicians Workman, Jim Zeller, Walter Rossi and Michel Pagliaro to make it on the international rock scene.“But they have to put their minds to it.You can’t sit around at home." #1____ftgl lECCDTQ and Announce the winners of The Great Album GIVE-AWAY Mrs.Dorine Davis—Bishopton Miss Donna Mahannah—St.Armand Allan Mackey—Marbleton Patty Rowe—Lennoxville Grand Winner courtesy of WILSON MUSIC Steven Bennett—Magog y Music chart NO.mi k ARTIST LAST WEEK WEEKS ON 1.Another Brick in the Wall Pink Floyd 1 9 2.Call Me Blondie 2 6 3.Off the Wall Michael Jackson 8 6 4 Fire Lake Bob Seger 10 6 5 Funky Town Lipps Inc.17 4 6.Second Time Around Shalamar 5 8 7.How Do 1 Make You Linda Ronstadt 7 10 8.Working My Way Back to You Spinners 6 11 9.Money Flying Lizards 4 6 to.Fly Too High Janis Ian 22 2 ti.Him Rupert Holmes 3 9 12.Too Hot Kool & the Gang 12 9 13.1 Like to Rock April Wine 9 9 14.Ride Like the Wind Christopher Cross 21 5 15.l Can’t Tell You Why Eagles 26 4 16.Refugee Tom Petty 15 8 17.Crazy Little Thing Queen 14 15 18 September Morn Neil Diamond 18 12 19.Three Times in Love Tommy James 20 5 20.Weekend Rock Puzzle 31 4 21.And the Beat Goes On Whispers 24 5 22.You May Be Right Billy Joel 30 3 23.On the Radio Donna Summer 13 12 24.Special Lady Ray, Goodman.Brown 23 7 25.99 Toto 11 10 26.Lost in Love Air Supply 29 4 27.An American Dream Dirt Band 16 10 28.Making Plans for Nigel XTC PL 1 29.Spirit of the Radio Rush 25 8 30.Rock Lobster B-52’s 37 2 31.Sexy Eyes Dr.Hook 33 4 32.Desire Andy Gibb 19 11 33.Pilot of the Airw ays Charlie Dore 36 3 34.Brass in Pocket Pretenders PL 1 35.Think About Me Fleetwood Mac 35 3 36.Rock my Love Toulouse 38 3 37.1 Can’t Help It Andy & Olivia 39 2 38.Breakdown Dead Ahead Boz Scaggs 40 2 39.White Hot Red Ryder PL 1 40 Heart Hotels Dan Fogelberg — 1 Present #¦___fagi Kccora OMltPO "THE GREAT ALBUM GIVE-AWAY" DRAWING OF 5 WEtKIY WINNERS Win one of this week's 5 albums.Of these 5 weekly winners, a drawing will be held for the winner of a bonus prize of the week's top 5 singles (according to the CKTS music chart appearing in The Record's Townships Week) BONUS PRIZE to be donated by WILSON MUSIC.This Week's Album Jefferson Starship Freedom At Ié Point Zero R.C.A.Records & Tapes Drawing to be held Thursday morning (April 24th) at Wilson Music Store.Clip coupon & mail or drop off at Wilson Music store, 65 Wellington St.N., Sherbrooke.Que., J1H5A9.Mechanical reproductions of this coupon will not be accepted Name.Address.City.Tel-.Postal Code TOWNSHIPS WEEK FRI , APR 18 t9«o 5 TOWNSHIPS SCENE :^Ï?Æ?.- T- .but its past is proud There are numerous aging barns in the Townships and The Record's Matthew Elder found this one near Lake Memphremagog an interesting subject.m rJêîtf* 6-TOWNSHIPS WEEK —FRI , APR 18,1980 Kaleidoscope BY RICHARD LONEY “Show People: Profiles in Kntertainment” by Kenneth Tynan (MUSSON): $15.95.317 pp.Kenneth Tynan, the British writer and critic, has chosen five personalities from show business he admires greatly for his essay treatment - word portraits, he calls them -resulting in a book that sparkles with anecdotes and insights.Less a biography of each, than profiles of five entertainers who have contributed enormously to the world of the popular arts, these essays range through the careers of well known personalities.Sir Ralph Richardson, Johnny Carson, Mel Brooks.Tom Stoppard and Louise Brooks are admittedly giants in their respective fields: dramatic actor, tv host-comedian, writer-producer of classic screen comedies, legitimate stage-writing and an enigmatic silent screen star.The profile of Sir Ralph Richardson, one of the grand old men of British theatre and cinema, reveals a Dickensian, quirkish eccentric, seemingly just loosed from the pages of a Victorian novel.Sir Ralph is as unpredictable in his stage personalities as he is maddeningly erratic in his private life Tynan recounts the occasion when the well-meaning Richardson was invited to the home of Laurence Olivier and his wife Vivien Leigh A Guy Fawkes Day celebration and birthday dinner for Miss Leigh was devastated by the amiable gentleman’s errant rocket which boomeranged into the Olivier's living room, destroying curtains, furnishings, and some antique priceless crockery, in addition to scaring the wits out of the host and hostess.Tynan's portrait of Sir Ralph is a touching, heart-warming view of a man who is not accorded the stature of a Gielgud or an Olivier, but like Somerset Maugham, the writer, must surely be “in the very first row of the second-raters", as an actor.About Nebraska’s Johnny Carson we learn very little even from the mouths of close friends such as his producer Freddy de Cordova, or sidekick Fd McMahon.The doyen of late night tv is certainly the most private of any of the reclusive celebrities, making Garbo appear to be a garrulous extrovert in comparison Even Tynan’s exceptional invitation to Carson's home in Bel Air, or luncheon meetings with him at the Beverly Hills Polo Lounge fails to go much beyond the quite limited general knowledge of the bread and butter man of NBC television.Tynan’s profile of Carson is well written, but due to the elusive, enigmatic nature of its subject it is the least satisfying.Whim the drama critic turns to the film successes of Mel Brooks he is on safer ground.Not only is Brooks a raving extrovert when compared to Carson, he is outspoken about his craft of film-making - Brooks has an overwhelming sense of outrage that comic films are never, according to him, seriously considered for Oscars.Tynan probes into Brooks' theories about comedy, being sure to pass equal judgement on the other major force in American comedy for the big screen, Woody Allen.If Tynan is comfortable with the film environments of his essays on Mel Brooks and Louise Brooks (called "one of the most mysterious and potent figures in the history of the cinema" by another British critic), when he approaches the outrageous English playwright Tom Stoppard, he is in his stride.Stoppard, a Czech by birth, is one of those writers, like Conrad who stretch the English language to its very limits.The author of “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead” appears an able successor to the British eccentricity of Osborne, Arden and Pinter.Tynan, reverting to his role as theatre critic, dissects several of Stoppard’s plays which are highly political and bristle with energetic word play and literary allusion.Kenneth Tynan is true to his declaration of intent in his foreward.These are small, twinkling gems of insight into the lives of modern entertainers, which are several removes from the true art of biography.Their merit lies in the bright, smooth anecdotal style of Tynan, a man who has written professionally about this glamorous world as drama critic and whose experience as literary manager and consultant with England's National Theatre lends these five essays considerable stature.•‘Island" by Peter Benchiey (BANTAM): $2.75, 273 pp.Peter Benchley’s novels are starting to fall into the research novel formula pattern.First the incidence of sharks in northeastern U S.waters led to “Jaws"; then the craze for sunken treasure occasioned “The Deep".This time, with "Island" it is the little known lore of the buccaneers in the Caribbean, in a story that plays on the fascination we all have for the inexplicable phenomena such as the Bermuda Triangle.We learn from Benchiey that the “buccaneer” is a garbled version of the term that described the communities of renegade sailors who set tied on Hispaniola and Tortuga., living as hunters and curing and smoking their meat on racks called "boucans 'Our Town' ends Sunday Perry Beaton recorded these scenes from Bishop's College School's production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town during rehearsals last week.The play opened Wednesday night and remaining performances are 8 p.m.Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the BCS Studio Theatre.Tickets — which should be booked ahead of time — cost $2.50.Director is W.Lewis Evans and costumes are by Margaret McGregor.Record Perry Beaton Romance novels to become movies Harlequin Enterprises Ltd., publishers of popular romance fiction in 15 languages for markets in 80 countries, will join Nielsen-Ferns International to produce a series of two hour made-for-television movies under the title Romance Movie of the Month.Filming of the first three, with a budget of $3 million, will begin in July.Richard Nielsen, head of the firm that produced The Newcomers series, said Canadian talent will be used predominantly and the series will be sold internationally.Canadian Press THE KN0WLT0N PUB Experience our fine cuisine ond warm friendly atmosphere seven days a week SPECIALS - life was wasted in a seemingly senseless war; liberty imperiled by militarism; and the pursuit of happiness debased to the pursuit of pleasure.This hedonism and lack of purpose is evidenced in Apocalypse by the well-publicized scenes of waterskiing up a Vietnamese river behind a patrol boat, the helicopter attack on an enemy village to secure a beach for surfing, the titillating kiss-and-run USD show or simply by the professional soldier’s love of battle.But most draftees were merely doing their duty and got their kicks wherever and however they could.The Americans didn’t really know why they were there.While they played at war with their sophisticated death toys in a land they did not care to understand, their opponents fought tooth and nail for their homes.Trying their hardest to live as they would back home, the Americans trampled over the society they were supposed to defend, creating enemies in their wake.The American soldiers may have had no cause but, after more than a century of European imperialism, the Vietnamese revolutionaries did.Fighting the most powerful and technologically advanced nation in the world, their ends had to justify any means.This horrible truth is what Colonel Kurtz (Brando) had discovered and became the sinister strategy he employed.Was he insane or had he merely adapted to an insane reality?What was right and what was wrong?If America hoped to win the war with arms, it had to descend to this level of savagery.Would absolute power corrupt absolutely?Coppola had wished to leave these questions unanswered.to leave Willard's climactic decision a mystery.But, after trying out both endings before sample audiences, Coppola opted for the moral resolution -perhaps for the best.In this way, Apocalypse can be seen as the message that Willard brings back - the vision of the future if America persists on its present course.This decision belongs with us, not with Willard.The Apocalypse which can be seen currently at the Cinema du Carrefour is much reduced in image and sound.And more’s the pity.These are perhaps the movie’s finest qualities, a fact recognized at the Academy Awards earlier this week when Apocalypse received Oscars for cinematography and sound.But it was not without merit that Apocalypse won the best film award at Cannes last year.In its original mammoth 70 mm and wrap-around quadrophonic version, the impact is absolutely numbing.At least with 35 mm-stereo, you'll be able to drive home safely and, hopefully, with some idea of the horror which can result when one nation forces its will upon another.—Donnelly explorations Do you have an idea for a projet ! in the arts or any other area of cultural activity (hat you feel is innovative, creative, unusual?Will your project help promote public enjoyment of artistic and cultural activities, or an appreciation of Canada’s heritage?If so, Explorations may be the program for you.We fund creative projects recommended by our regional selection committees.Our competitions are open to Canadian individuals, groups or organizations.Write now for more details and application forms, giving a brief description of your project and pertinent biographical information JUNE I is the next deadline for applications.After that, it’s December 1.Explorations T he Canada Council RO.Box 1047 Ottawa KIP 5V8 a program of The Canada Council 10—TOWNSHIPS WEEK—FRI,, APR.18, 1980 "N This week's TV Listings for this week s television programs as supplied by Compulog Corp While we moke every effort to ensure their accuracy, they are subject to change without notice Check The Record daily for any changes e o Q f> STATIONS LISTED C'BKT - Montreal ( Radio Canada) WCAX - Burlington, Vt.(CBS) WPTZ - Plattsburgh, N.Y.(NBC) CBMT - Montreal (CBC) CULT - Sherbrooke (TVA) WMTM - Poland Spring, Me.(ABC) Q CKSil - Sherbrooke ( Radio Canada) CD CFTM - Montreal (TVA) Q CTCT - Montreal (CTV) ffl WKTK - Burlington, Vt.(PBS) y Saturday MORNING 0:00 © NEWŸÔÜ © UNIVERSITY OF THE AIR 6:30 O SUNRISE SEMESTER 7:00 © SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN © LITTLE RASCALS © ANIMALS.ANIMALS, ANIMALS © CIRCLE SQUARE 7:30 O KROFFTS SUPERSTARS © MIRE ET MUSIQUE © UNTAMED WORLD © INFINITY FACTORY 7:55 © HORAIRE DE CFTM 8 00 O MIGHTY MOUSE HECKLE ANDJECKLE © SUPER GLOBETROTTERS O© FANFANDEDE O© WORLD'S GREATEST SUPERFRIENDS © LES PIERRAFEU © LET S GO 8:20 © IN THE NEWS 8:30 O© PASSE-PARTOUT O© FUSEE XL-5 © ROCKET ROBIN HOOD 8:55 O © SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK 8:56 8 IN THE NEWS 8:58 © ASK NBC NEWS 8:00 © ATTACHEZ VOS CEINTURES O BUGS BUNNY-ROAD RUNNER SHOW © FRED AND BARNEY MEET THE SHMOO O © CADETS DE LA FORET O © PLASTICMAN COMEDY-ADVENTURE SHOW © CAPITAINE CAVERNE Sports SUNDAY (CBS) NBA ON CBS: 1:00 PM E.S.T.- 12:00 NOON C S.T.Playoff game.(ABC) AMERICAN SPORTSMAN: 2:00 PM E.S.T.- 1:00 PM C.S.T (NBC) SPORTSWORLD: 2:30 PM E.S.T.- 1:30 PM C.S.T.T he Muhammad All Amateur Boxing Club vs.the U.S Marine Corps amateur boxers at San Diego.Calif ;
