Hooper admits.Last year, the high school drama club wowed an appreciative audience with another Shakespeare classic.Romeo and Juliet.Students have been remaining behind after classes to rehearse the lengthy script for the past few weeks preparing for the April opening.“It's pretty hard to ad lib if you forget your lines." commented one member of the large cast. The story opens in the palace of Thesus.played by Doug Hooper, who is waiting anxiously for his wedding to the Queen of the Amazons.A group of Athenian workmen, hearing that Thesus intends to have mirth and revelry on his wedding night, decide to put on a play for him.It is the workmen's intense earnestness that makes them so funny.for they are convinced that they are men of great wit.talent and competence, while they are actually a very poor group of amateur actors. The result is hilarious.COMPLICATIONS Meanwhile, Egeus.one of Thesus' subjects’ comes to the duke to discuss a problem with his daughter Hermia.played by Sarah Biggs.Hermia has run off into the moonlit woods to meet her true lover LysandenRick Birti to escape marrying Demetrius iBilly Castle), the man chosen for her by her father. In the meantime.Her-mia's best friend Helena (Natalie Drama coach Doug Hooper with student Sarah Biggs.RECORD'SHARON McCLLLY Foster) is drawn into the drama because she is in love with Demitrius. The escapades of all three prenuptial couples provide for an evening of entertainment for theatre audiences.Other members of the cast include teacher Sextus Feehan as Egeus.fatherofHermia: Jeannine Mulliner as Philostrate: Robert Polka as Peter Quince: Ngaio Richards as Snug: teacher Danny Poirier as Dick Bottom Jason Beil as Francis Flute: Justin Weiss as Tom Smart: Bradley Picken as Robin Starveling: Mellissa Bissell as Hyppolyta : guidance counsellor Jim Colley as Oberson: Kathy Masse as Oberson: and Robin Whitford as Puck.Vanessa Fraser is Peaseblossom : Diane Durocher is Cobweb: Amy Tector is Mosh: and Jennifer Woodrow plays the rold of Mustardseed.Other teachers involved in the production include Gail Marquis and Barry Turvey. The play opens Wednesday evening April 17 with a second performance Thursday.April 18.receives once again an honorable Thanks to deragon Auto Cite 263-0101 317 Principale Cowansville, J2K 1J4 Bio—The RECORD—Thursday.March 21.1»M Wilbert and Georgina Doe stricken with Gladiolus fever By Sharon McCully WEST BROME - The bulbs should have come with the warning: "Growing these flowers can be habit forming." Wilbert and Georgina Doe.now in their seventies.were first stricken with gladiolus fever when Wilbert returned from the war in 1945.“Our son was five months old when Wilbert left for the war and five years old when he came back,” recalls Georgina.“Those young men who came back from the war needed something to get their minds off the terrible things they experienced," she said.Creating something of beauty became very important to her."I didn't come from a farm, nor did 1 know anything about gardening." says Wilbert who has since become a master gardener. The Doe s West Brome retirement home explodes with the color of some 50 varieties of gladiolus and dahlias each summer."Our first garden was a flower bed 15 feet by two feet." Georgina commented."We were lucky enough to get on the head table at the first show we attended with our entries.” HOOKED ON GARDENING "After that, we were hooked,” admits Georgina.“We started entering the annual exhibitions sponsored by the Quebec Gladiolus Society and gradually got more and more involved.” From their modest garden, the Doe's gradually expanded to include 50 different varieties of gladiolus.Georgina Doe now acts as a judge at provincial and national gladiolus exhibitions, while Wilbert has worked with the Society at the organizational level.“I suppose our adventure in gladiolus actually began at that first exhibition.” says Georgina."Our daughter Helen says she can't remember not having glads around." Helen entered her first flower competition at age five and has never looked back Now a professional flower arranger, she credits her parents with introducing her to a life of color and beauty Turning pro is not unusual for growers who exhibited at those annual exhibitions.Georgina says.Other locals who carved a career out of glad growing include Vivian Aiken.Doug and Hazel McCourt SKcn c£cnz 8 The community is saddened by the death ot Gordon Magoon who died on March K in his Tilth year.following a long illness.Friends of Merry Webb will be pleased to know she was discharged from the CHUS on March 1 and is at home slowly resuming her schedule within the community but still feeling the bruising from her car accident on February 14.Happy birthday is wished to the following March celebrants: James Clark.Robert Blumenfeld.Phyllis Marcoux.Ethel (Mrs.Graham) George.Edgar Tracey.Randy Smith.Bruce Nichols.Mario at Jack s Pizzeria.Roseleen and Keyworth George.Verlie Aiken.Gayle and Amber Chouinard.Henry Everett.Noella Coutu.Angel Woodard.Betty MacAuslan.Gladys Willey and all you March people.Sutton Mable Boyce 538-2946 Sympathy is extended to Mrs.Edson Smith and family in the death of her mother Mrs.Playfuil in Burlington.Vt.recently.Mr.and Mrs.Walter Miltimore were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mrs.Shirley Wilson in Ful-ford.Lydney Kirby.Brome, and Mary Hamelin.Mansonville.were luncheon guests at the Boyce home on March 12.the occasion being Harold's 89th birthday.Other callers al the Boyce home were Gordon Bailey.Robinson's Bay: Mr.and Mrs.D.Smith.Bondville: Ricky Foster.Knowlton: O.Davies and M.Kirby.Foster: Win- ston.Joan and Leland Foster.Sutton.David Foster, Sutton and Montreal.Nancy Boyce.West Bolton.Mrs.James Ireland and daughter Jennifer, Halifax.N.S.spent a few days with Mrs.Bernice Boule.Cathy and Vincent Royea have arrived home after a vacation in the Caribbean.Lyndon Royea is home after spending some time with his daughter in Huntsville.Ont Mr.and Mrs.Joe Drouin have returned to their home on Western Ave.after spending three months in Florida.Sympathy extended to the family of the late (till Bonneau who died suddenly in hospital at Sherbrooke.June Aseltine Young.Dayton.Ohio, called on Bid Lachapelle recently.Pat Korman and June Aseltine Young were visitors of Mrs.Ellen Rumsby.Friends of Mona Charters will be happy to know she is able to sit up and visit a bit after her stroke.Word has been received from Rimbey.Alta., of the death of Irene Cushion (Mrs.Romeo Cushion) formerly of Glen Sutton.Que.Sympathy is extended to relatives in the area.Brigham Doris E.Dougall We are sorry to report that Mrs.Stanley Crossfield is still a patient in a Montreal Hospital being treated for a knee problem. Her friends all join in wishing her a satisfactory recovery soon.Friends of Mr Cedric Dougall will be sorry to hear he is again hospitalized in the BMP Hospital, having undergone major surgery. All wish him a good recovery soon.Mrs.Archie Pettes.Albany.N Y and Mrs.John Madden.Georgia.Vt are spending a few days with their mother Mrs.Cedric Dougall.,\Irs.Michael de la Mare went by bus with her Figure Skating Group."Miraculeux", to Noranda on February 24 to attend the Provincial Synchronise Figure Skating Competition.Mr.and Mrs.Jim Pauw were recent weekend visitors of his parents.Mr.and Mrs.John Pauw. They also called on his aunt.Miss Grace Hawthorne at the Regal Nursing Home in Cowansville.Mr.and Mrs.Robert Water-house.Richford.Vt.were March l !th dinner guests of Mrs.Ada Goodhue.Mrs Eunice Stowe spent the afternoon of March 13 with Mrs.Cedric Dougall.Mrs.Bernice Thomas and Miss Hilda McEwing of East Farnham were afternoon callers of Miss D.Dougall and Mrs.A.Goodhue.Mrs.June Royea spent a recent evening at the same home.Mr.and Mrs.Donald McGrath.Abercorn.were dinner guests on March 8 of Mrs.Ada Goodhue and Miss Doris Dougall Afternoon visitors at the same home were Mr.and Mrs Robert Waterhouse.Richford.Vt.also Mr.and Mrs.Edward Gladden.Richford.Vt.the happy occasion being Mrs Goodhue's birthday 1 DOMAINE DU PARC March 28th, 29th & 30th Easter Petting Zoo on both floors 100 Different Kinds of Animals You Can Feed!
