Though Charest is booked for an engagement in Montreal on June 28 when celebrations are planned in Sherbrooke, he says he is trying to have the dates changed.Though Charest is proud his Conservative government was able to sign the now-famous Meech Lake accord which, for the first time in history, included all provinces in Canada’s own constitution.he says he doesn't think Canada Day will immediately become more celebrated. At least, “probably not in the ve- ry near future." he says."These accords take a very long time to show interest.” But he does say that the historical agreement is something that all Canadians should feel proud of.Here are some of the festivities planned for the Townships. For instance, Sherbrooke has a country-style dinner, soccer contests, and a fireworks display ; Cowansville has a triathlon and a drawings competition: Pike River has a play: Stanbridge East has a hores-hoe pitch ; Bury has a horse-pulling tournament; East Angus has planned a special evening show ; Hatley has a parade; Georgeville has a lunch for the elderly; Weedon has a beach party; and Melbourne has hot dogs and soft drinks at the local legion, to name but a few.Schedules and events are listed in the Canada Day supplement pages in the Record.i nuit 111 i î 819/563-1277 Restaurant DA LEONARDO PATES maison CUISINENTALIEN NE 1 Special of the month CMain So arse Jcttuccini, lobster sauce 8.95 IDa ‘‘Vinci" Plate: Veal lemon sauce Jiobster Uiennidor 15.95 ôcampies Veal and frog legs VDa Leonardo wishes to all Canadians a very happy Canada fDay.Sherbrooke Entrées Veasar s salad 3.25 CMussels CMarinara 3.75 Shrimps in garlic butter 4.50 Zortellini with pesto sauce 3.25 advertisement THE RECORD — Canada Day Supplement_______5 Sherbrooke has everything from musicians to fireworks RIDING OF SHERBROOKE Town of Sherbrooke - Centre international et multiculturel de l’Estrie inc.Date: June 28th Location: Jacques Cartier Park, on Jacques Cartier & Marchand St.Program: 10 a.m.to 2 p.m.Soccer contest, musicians & singers contest, Country style meals, Parade, Raising of the flag, Speech, Dance show, Citizenship ceremony.Reception for new Canadians, Animation, popular dances, Multicultural show, Fireworks, campfire, Dance.1 RIDING OF BROME-MISSISQUOI Town of Cowansville - La Fête du Canada - Cowansville Date: June 30th and July 1st Location: Centre de la nature.Parc centre-ville Program: 6 p.m.to 11 p.m.and 10 a.m.to 11 p.m.June 30th, 1987 - Parade, Music, Show.July 1st, 1987 - Music, Athletic competitions for children.Drawings exposition, Triathlon, Raising of the flag ceremony, Mechoui supper.Presentation of awards to the winners of the competitions.Town of Knowlton - Knowlton Lions club Date: June 30th and July 1st.Location: Lions Park Program: 10 a.m.to 10 p.m.Activities for all, Fireworks.Town of Pike-River - Comité des Fêtes Pike-River Date: June 28th Location: 548, Route 202 Program: 10 a.m.to 10 p.m., 10 a.m.Church service, 11:15 a.m.Rising of the flag, 11:30 a.m.Launching of the souvenir Album, 1:45 p.m.Play, 3 p.m.Distribution and sale of the souvenir Album Convent visit.5 p.m.Hot Dog supper, 8:30 p.m.Revival of the play, 9:30 p.m.Fireworks.Town of Farnham - Club Lions de Farnham inc.Date: July 1st Location: Palais des sports Program: 8 p.m.to 12 a.m.Guest appearance: André-Philippe Gagnon.Town of Stanbridge East -Stanbridge East sports association Date: July 1st Location: Academy street Program: 10 a.m.to 7 p.m., 10 a.m.Bicycle ralley, 11 a m.Start B.B.Q., 12 p m.Sing OCanada, 12:30p.m.Official opening ceremony, 1 p.m.Registration of mini games, 1:15 p.m.Start games, 2 p.m.Horseshoe pitch, 3:30 p.m.Fish Pond, 4 p.m.Closing of games.Distribution of ribbons and prizes, 4:15 p.m.Soft ball game, 6:15 p.m.Water dump, 7 p.m.Closing ceremony.RIDING OF MEGANTIC/ COMPTON / ST ANSTE AD Tow n of Bury - Bury Athletic association Date: June 28th Location: Main Street Program: 8 a.m.to 11 p.m.Music.Flea market.Arts & Crafts, Ball game.Concert, Parade.Games for children.Horse pulling tournament.Night show.Fireworks.Town of Coaticook - Chevaliers de colomb, conseil 2106 -Coaticook.Date: June 26th.27th, 28th and July 1st.Location: Laurence Street Program: Family ball tournament.Salute to the flag.Folk dance.Fireworks, Ceremony for a centennial Lady.Town of Stanstead - Royal Canadian Legion - Stanstead frontier Branch No.5 Date: June 27th Location: Stanstead, Rock Island and Beebe villages Program: 10 a m.to 10 p.m.Parade, Sports festival, softball tournament, Outdoor picnic, Dance at Legion Hall.t i r- h -< TOWN OF ROCK FOREST WE WISH TO ALL OUR FELLOW CITIZENS A HAPPY CANADA DAY.GAÉTAN LAVALLÉE, mayor Councillors: No 1: Claude Vermette No 2: André Nadeau No 3: Dominique Vascogluosu No 4: Yvon Côté No 5: Nelson Doyon No 6: Jean-Guy Dion 9 p.m.Fireworks Activities for the 4th of July will be at the Central Park Kennedy 9 a.m.till night.General Director: Jean Rouillard UPA May you all enjoy Canada Day 819/567-8905 La Fédération da I'U.P.A.da Sherbrooke 4300, boul.Bourque Rock Forest, Qyé.JOB 2J0 ’ Town of East Angus - Village culturel de l'Estrie.Date: July 2nd Location: 190.Kennedy.Program: 5 p.m.to 12 a m .Contests.Mass mural.Cocktail, Show: Village night.Old fashioned evening.Fireworks.Town of Hatley - The Hatley municipal association inc.Date: July 1st.Location: Main Street Program: All day long.Pa rade.Races.Evening show.Town of Georgeville - The Ca nada Day committee of the Georgeville community ass.Date: June 29th to July 3rd Location: Main Street Program: Fireworks.Parade, Lunch for Old Age sec tion.See next /nine Best Wishes on Canada's 120th Birthday [¦p Balfour CANADA Recognition Products SHERBROOKE.Que.ENJOY CANADA DAY.pafflRf — r/mv CŒeSîï CHAUFFAGE HEATING PAINTS 471 MAIN ST.W.MAGOG, QUE.Tel.843-3530 * Compliments of.Earl's Accommodation (North Hatley Inc.) If you haven't attend a Hatley Canada Day Celebration then plan to attend this year’s on July 1st with a grand parade starting at 10:30 a m.It is rated as one of the best w ith lots of floats and a family atmosphere. We don’t have a liquor licence.Traditionally the Whitcomb family have for the greater part of fifty years led the parade and this year will be no exception for the flag carrying members. The Len-noxville Highland Band will follow and it is a first time for this well known group. The parade marshall for the Municipal Association who organize the parade is Homer Cote and Howard Ayer looks after the prizes.MC for the day portion of the event is Doug Fletcher who makes sure all the antique cars and drivers are recognized.Members of the two government bodies have been invited to attend.Upwards of fourteen floats have signified their intention of taking part and probably by parade time others will be added to compete for the valuable cash prizes offered.Antique cars and bicycles plus the Coaticook Majorettes will round out a very lively parade. The Majorettes will put on a demonstration following the parade. The ladies of the Anglican Church are planning a cold buffet meal at the noon hour and following this the Georgia Country Duo of Tom Wheeler and Darlene Kerr will entertain the crowd with Western Music. The Richmond doggers will be on hand to entertain with their director Alice Mellish and this group is highly entertaining. The afternoon entertainment will feature Alex McKinven and His Border Collies around three o’clock. This was to be presented at last years’ event but due to sickness had to be called off at the last minute. This year we are assured that this will take place.Mr.McKinven will being five dogs with him and he is one of the very few people who can actually work five or six dogs at one time.It will be a demonstration of dogs herding sheep and other animals and for those who have witnessed this they have found it highly entertaining and an event not to be missed.Races for all ages will be part of the afternoon events and this has also been something to win cash prizes along with this to have great fun.Scheduled to start the evening’s activities was to be a Fireman’s Contest but to date it hasn’t materialized and probably will be cancelled due to lack of competitors. However shortly after seven p.m.there will be a musical evening for a couple of hours prior to fireworks.John Foster and Réal a musical Duo will form the basis of the performance to be presented.John will act as M.C.and introduce guest performers along with playing for a musical treat and maybe for dancing if people are so inclined.A singing group along with a number of individual singing artists and dancers have been contacted and it appears that a great show of local talent will be on hand to entertain. There has been a good request for sales tables and any who would like to display their handiwork can call 838-5712 and reserve a space. Two canteens will look after food items along with the Anglican women’s group. This year the Common will be fenced off for the dog show and cars won’t be permitted on it until the completion of the dog show.Ample space will be provided for car parking at no charge. The Municipal Association strive to put on a Canada Day Celebration for all that feel they wish to take part.Come and meet your
