By Michelle Lepitre Since the inception of the Townships Leaders of Tomorrow Awards in 2005, we at Townshippers’ Association have had the pleasure of meeting so many great young leaders that we have realized the title “Young Leaders of Tomorrow” is no longer fitting for our youth leadership awards initiative. The number - and quality - of the candidates nominated over the past three years has made it abundantly clear that our young Townshippers are much more APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS,' MACKENZIE WROTE Five-year-old MacKenzie Achilles of Stanstead has given The Record this masterpieces depicting your weather forecast. If you would like to depict the Townships weather via a drawing, send them to 1195 Galt East, Sherbrooke, Qc, JIG 1Y7.Don’t forget your name, age and address.Weather Today: Cloudy with 60 percent chance of flurries or rain showers.High plus 3.Tomorrow: Cloudy with 40 percent chance of flurries or rain showers.Low minus 1.High 7.Friday: Cloudy with 30 percent chance of flurries or rain showers.Low zero.High 6.Saturday: A mix of sun and cloud.Low minus 6.High 7.TOWNSHIPPERS' ASSOCIATION Joan Thomson, one of the 2008 Outstanding Townshippers award recipients.Who will they be in 2009?than just the leaders of tomorrow.they are already leaders, today! Since the goal of our youth leadership awards is to celebrate and encourage leadership among English-speaking youth, we have decided that a name change is the best way for us to properly reflect this reality. As a result, the awards have been renamed the Young Townships Leaders Awards.Because 2009 also marks the 30th anniversary of Townshippers’ Association, this year’s edition of the Young Townships Leaders Awards promises to be extra special. To celebrate this important anniversary, the 2009 Young Townships Leaders Awards ceremony will take place on Friday, June 12th, the same day as the Townshippers’ Association AGM and the Outstanding Town-shippers Banquet. It is our sincere hope that holding all three of these events in one day will encourage the leaders in our Eastern Townships English-speaking community - both the young and not-so-young - to get to know each other and celebrate their many achievements together.Young Townships Leader Awards nomination forms are now available, so be sure to get one and nominate a young leader that you know.Who is eligible?Anyone between the ages of 15 and 35 who is a resident of the Eastern Townships and has carried out some kind of action or initiative demonstrating leadership within the Eastern Townships English-speaking community over PUBLIC PORTRAITS the past two years.Your collaboration will help us support and recognize the young leaders in the Eastern Townships who are working hard to make a difference in OUR communities! in the year ahead will be mostly devoted to the advancement of your self-development and interests. It won’t be selfish because you will willingly share with those you love.ARIES (March 21-April 19) - Don’t hesitate to form an alliance with a person with whom you’ve never previously partnered.Even if you put the endeavor together loosely, it should work out rather well.TAURUS (April 20-May 20) - Do all that you can to keep everyone in a happy mood, because the attitude of your co-workers will affect you. When the mood of the place is good, your job will be made easier.GEMINI (May 21-June 20) — Because you haven’t been playing favorites with your friends, it will prove to be a helpful tactic in getting along better with everyone. When all are equal, no one has to compete for attention.CANCER (June 21-July 22) - What makes you such a good mediator is the ability to review any testy situation or development from all sides. If something should develop, step up and keep warring factions in their place.LEO (July 23-Aug.22) — In order to win others to your point of view, you need to have a fair-minded and unprejudiced outlook in your presentation. When others see that you are unbiased, died in 479 B.C., said, “The scholar who cherishes the love of comfort is not fit to be deemed a scholar.” We have been looking at hands with a good trump fit and how this generates extra trump tricks.Even better than a fit is a double fit, with at least eight cards in two suits. Then you will win more tricks than your combined point-count would normally imply. The basic rule for a double fit is: overbid and declare. If you have a double fit, so do your opponents, and they will also win more tricks than their point-count suggests. This deal, which occurred many years ago, is a spectacular example. The auction was involved. But note some key points: South did not use the Unusual No-trump, because he had a two-card disparity between his long suits. When West heard about a spade fit, he showed his second suit, allowing partner to judge what to do at the five-level.And North, who knew both sides had a double fit, was happy to bid six diamonds with two key honors in his partner’s suits. Now West misjudged. He knew that his side had the balance of points, so he North 04-08-09 A V ?* West A 9 4 3 2 9 3 2 K 7 6 A 9 8 East A Q 10 8 7 6 A K 8 7 J 5 K K J 5 J 10 6 Q 5 4 3 2 5 4 South
