réadaptation en déficience intellectuelle ELECTIONS TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS THE ELECTION OF FOUR REPRESENTATIVES OF THE POPULATION TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CRDI MONTÉRÉGIE-EST WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2006, FROM 12 NOON TO 8 P.M.IN THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS: GRANBY: 290 Saint-Hubert LONGUEUIL: 1 255 Beauregard (Salle Louis Braille A-B) ST-HYACINTHE: 5605 Trudeau SOREL: 15 Albert PRESENTATION OF THE CANDIDATES ULI 111 Q CL I have been a member of the Board of Directors since the autumn of 1999 and Vice-Chairman since the spring of 2004.1 have always shown an interest in this responsibility of serving as a specialist in protecting basic rights and freedoms. My mandate consists of ensuring that the CRDI provides care to its clients while respecting their right to be treated with dignity and to have their private lives respected.I would like to continue to carry out these duties and consider that my experience on the Board of Directors, as well as my legal training, are important and constructive assets in following-up and preparing the CRDTs management policies.o CL > GO Trained in psycho-education and public administration, I recently retired from the health and social service network after 35 years of experience in psychiatry, delinquency, intellectual impairment and home care.Involved in numerous projects and work committees with associations of parents, the elderly or natural caregivers and other partners in the network, I have always taken care to maintain a direct contact with the users and their representatives in order to be attentive to their needs and concerns.I have already served on the Boards of Directors of tfie CISC Longueuil-Ouest, the Centre de bénévolat de la Rive-Sud, the Centre communautaire des Aînés(es) de Longueuil an'd the CRDI Montérégie-Est.û Z o| CO 5 I have 18 years experience in administration, including six as Controller in a steel plant and three with the Fondation de l'Hôpital Ste-Justine.Still today, diseases related to an intellectual impairment (trisomy, autism and others) are sometimes poorly perceived by the public, leading to misunderstanding and indifference, if not prejudice against the unknown. The friendship and empathy for the families and my curiosity led me to look further.Having become aware of the courage of the people affected, I would be proud to become a member of this organization. It would give me the opportunity to enrich my knowledge of this field, offer my help and participate in the well-being of the community.>- U z < z 0 z 111 z v 1 O CL < z Two years ago, my life was turned upside-down when I learned that my daughter was suffering from a pervasive developmental disorder. At the time, I knew that many challenges awaited my husband and me, but I had underestimated their magnitude.Since then, I have constantly been discovering the extent to which needs are critical as diagnoses increase. For all parents who, like me, are learning to live with an extraordinary child, the CRDI is a vital partner in rehabilitation and re-education.I am very aware that the task is colossal and that applications for service are growing in the Montérégie.I hope that my training as a lawyer will allow me to finally serve as the spokesperson for the many parents who, like me, care deeply about their children’s well-being.U => Z iu o I am proposing my candidacy since the problem of intellectual impairment affects me a great deal; I am the father of a young man with an intellectual handicap.I retired following a career in management during which I worked for 13 years in the Government of Canada's correctional service as District Director, Regional Director for Quebec and Interim Commissioner to the National Parole Board.Following this I served as the Executive Director of the CLSC Longueuil-Ouest for 24 years.I hope to continue to be involved in the administration of the network. In fact, for more than three years, I have been a Director on the Board of Directors of the CRDI Montérégie-Est, the CSSS Pierre-Boucher and the Maison Gisèle Auprix-St-German de Longueuil (Foyer Saint-Antoine).S < >- O o I am the father of three young children, one of whom suffers from a pervasive developmental disorder. If I am elected to the Board of Directors, I will do everything possible to offer my personal experience and represent families receiving services from the CRDI.I am submitting my candidacy because.I am the father of a young woman with an intellectual impairment.Since her birth, I have wished to make a contribution that would encourage our society to be more open to her and all other persons with such a handicap.I have been a member of the Board of Directors of Action-Intégration Brossard, a well-known community organization on the South Shore, and have worked in this field for some ten years.I have served as Commissioner for the Commission scolaire de Brossard. For the past eight years, I have been a member of the Board of Directors of the CRDI-PPD Montérégie-Est and serve as Chairman.I hope to be able to continue to influence the destiny of this centre and to contribute to improving the services it offers while making them more humane.I therefore urge you to support me and thank you for taking an interest in this election.Electors are persons 1 8 years and over whose principal residence is located in the Montérégie. On the day of the election, electors must complete on elector's declaration before voting.N.B.Persons who work for the institution or who exercise their profession in a centre operated by the Centre de réadaptation en déficience intellectuelle Montérégie-Est may not vote during the election of representatives of the population for this institution.FOR FURTHER INFORMATION: Ms.France autumn near the end of the baseball season. The Montreal Expos (remember them?), long out of playoff contention and about to disappear into the dusty pages of sporting history, were twitching fitfully through their final days.Attendance for most games since mid-August had been so low that, to save embarrassment, the actual numbers were often not announced.So.a few of us were surprised when a friend declared he planned to drive into the city to take in a game one Thursday night. Why on earth would anyone want to do such a thing, we all thought but one person asked.Well, came the reply, he just wanted to be by himself for a little while. Most of us find that, in the clutter and clamour of modern life, even in the midst of these pleasant pastoral surroundings, it is good to experience an occasional interlude of silence and solitude.Happily, even in a busy touristy summer, there’s a stretch of country just past the east side of Brome Lake where a person may enjoy a few mo- The Country Squire Brian Eddington ments of peace and quiet. This is a couple of miles of old train bed, now a sort of bike path or ‘linear park’.Most days, even when conditions seem especially inviting for a walk or pedal, it’s more deserted than the school board offices on a sunny Friday afternoon.Reasons for this are several.First, unless you like swamp, the visuals along the dull straight-and-getting-narrower path are poor, compared to other options in this scenic area.Further, because it’s wetland, vicious blood-sucking insects (and this time not those from Revenue Canada) are an April-to-September plague.Compounding the problem, the right-of-way leads to a dead end at a weed-choked if otherwise fancy and expensive bridge to nowhere.Indeed, trail maintenance overall seems to be spotty and half-hearted, as if there isn’t much point putting out more money and effort on something from which few will benefit.Of course there’s a history to this.Knowing what’s Shirley Williams Curator Same guy, different view Dear Editor, In the Brome County News.I read with interest when the mayor of Knowl-ton said: “We had to go to court and it cost us about $15,000, but we have to enforce our bylaws." (West Brome to get a flashing light, at a price, Oct.4).When I was the mayor of the Town of Brome Lake, I seem to remember when Mr.Richard Wisdom accused me of wasting the taxpayers money when we had to go to court to enforce the bylaws.Actually, as soon as he was elected, he even forgave collecting court costs to a case which I had won, even though the judgment rendered suggested the court costs should be covered by the lawbreaker.Looking back at some of the things Mr.Wisdom had said when he was in opposition and compared to what he says and does now, makes me think of something actor Robin Williams recently said, “Politicians are a lot like diapers, and they need to be changed frequently for the same reason." Stanley Neil Fulford Brie i Ixaf the plastic be The Town of Brome Lake is warning residents that leaves that are not packed in biodegradable bags will not be picked up.“We have even told the garbage collectors not to pick up leaves." said Mayor Richard Wisdom.“If they are in plastic bags they will not be picked up." By the way, many Chevy dealers also carry the Cadillac banner. So add the CTS, STS, and DTS sedans to their stable, and include the XLR roadster, the SRX crossover and the large Escalade SUV available in three formats; standard, EXT transformable pick-up and ESV extended version. The redesigned Chevrolet Tahoe is Ihe first of many new Chevy trucks in 2007.Iff you are looking for a truck, stop at your Chevrolet dealership Chevrolet dealers have a full catalogue of trucks of all sizes to offer to customers.Where SUVs are concerned, it all begins with the very popular Equinox (unless we add die cute retro-looking little HHR into die SUV category) and continues with the impressive mid-size TrailBlazer, a “real” truck based on a full-framq chassis and available with a six-cylinder engine or a more potent V-8.But the real news this year is the arrival of a new series of full-size SUVs, the Tahoe, the Suburban and the Avalanche.Completely redesigned from the ground up, these more modem vehicles come with less fuel-thirsty V-8 engines and, in many cases, they will soon available in a hybrid-electric version. All three SUVs share the same front end and many parts. They are available with rear- or :,1»./rnwmmmmn four-wheel drive and Ji i|| 11 ff ff f offer many towing capa- “—— bi lilies.Jk In the pick-up category, Chevrolet is also the talk of the town since it launched a totally new generation of full-size trucks with the Silverado. But since the vehicle is brand-new and will not reach its full production for a few months, Chevrolet is keeping the 2006 version on the market for a while, including the sporty SS version.Chevrolet has a smaller pick-up in its catalogue, the Colorado, that comes with a more powerful four-cylinder engine and also a more powerful five-cylinder engine for 2007.By the way, Chevrolet has not forgotten small families and commercial truck buyers, and is bringing back its Uplander minivan and the bigger Express full-size van.The Hummer brand is growing You may have heard that Hummer will be » dropping its bigger HI truck for 2007.But that is surely not important, since the original Hummer is not the brand’s biggest seller. So that leaves a lot of room for the full-size H2 that’s back in 2007, in the full wagon or the transformable pick-up version with Mid-Gate technology. But the real news is all about the H3 version, a mid-size Hummer that suits many more customers not only for its size, but also thanks to its less fuel-thirsty five-cylinder engine. And that incredible little mill comes with more horsepower this year. Also, expect a luxury version, the H3X.The other good news is that the Hummer brand has begun to expand, and a few more dealerships are opening up, making Hummers available to many more Canadian consumers than ever.Add to that the rumour that Hummer might build an H3-based pick-up truck in the near future, and maybe a lighter H4 to compete with Jeep’s new compact car-based SUVs.Hummer surely has a future and it promises to be exciting.Ù *JV Uic Hummer brand ¦“ surely has a great future.r an honest transaction with no fine print 555 Craig Street, RICHMOND }19-826-3721 • 1-800-263-9766 DYMSWRMSMONG Richmond, Quebec, ORIGINAL MICROFILMED AI VARYING INTENSITIES BECAUSE IN!
