Record aDtha THE Record The voice of the Eastern Townships since 1897 ii— THB — RECORD CUSSIREDS |I19| 56MS25 65 CENTS WWW.SHERBROOKERECORD.COM Tuesday, August 20, 2002 Experts join search for missing dog Bromont pooch may have been stolen By Maurice Crossfleld Missing from his Bromont home since July 24, the search for missing wheat-en terrier Guinness is getting some help from an expert in search and rescue.“Based on his search, he said that someone picked the dog up on Gaspé Street,” said Karen De-Volpi Monday of search and rescue expert Harry Oakes and his dog Valorie.“He’s no longer a lost dog, he’s considered a stolen dog.” Guinness is a three-year-old wheaten terrier DeVolpi got from the Wheaten’s in Need rescue service in the U.S.Not usually a runner, he got loose on July 24 from his home on Rue des Carrières in Bromont and hasn’t been seen since.Because of a thyroid condition, Guinness requires daily medication to stay healthy and happy.The thin, shaggy and active 35-pound canine has been neutered and as such is no show dog.DeVolpi said her attachment to the dog is purely emotional.Since the disappearance DeVolpi has placed ads in local papers, put up posters, contacted town halls, police forces and animal shelters across the region.Though it’s been over a month since Guinness disappeared, DeVolpi is refusing to give up.This weekend DeVolpi got some welcome help from Wheat-ens in Need, who paid for Oakes and Valorie to fly up from Portland, Oregon to spend a day searching for the dog.Oakes and Valorie are no strangers to search and rescue of both people and animals.Oakes founded SAR Dogs Team of Mountain Wilderness Search Dogs in 1986, and has traveled the world looking for both missing people and pets.In 1995 they located victims in the Oklahoma Please see dog Page 3 ¦ - ¦ ‘ ¦ ' COURTESY KAREN DEVOLPI mm '0; ]" Harry Oakes, seen here with his tracking dog Valorie.The duo flew in from Portland, Oregon on the weekend to search for Guinness, a wheaten terrier missing in Bromont since July 24.Though the search failed to turn up the dog, it did unearth some interesting evidence.Parents of drowning victim suing Farnham Staff p|-jhe parents of a young boy who drowned at Farnham’s Ouellet JL Beach last month are suing the town for $1.3 million.On the evening of July 30, Marc-André Breault, 10, went with some friends to the beach
