Many of us aren’t washing You’ll pardon me if I don’t shake your hand NEW ORLEANS (AP) - For the second year in a row, poor weather put a damper on the Old Car Coronation last weekend at the Granby Zoo parking lot.“We were ready for 300 to 400 cars,” said Andre Foisy, director of the Société Québécoise de Voitures Anciennes.“But we only had about 100 cars the whole weekend.” The event, the last one of its kind in Quebec for the year, and was the idea of the late Gilles Boisvert, founder of the SQVA.Though Boisvert died shortly after the first show last year, his 1903 Ford Model A was there, white rubber tires and all.Another featured automobile at the show was a Manic, one of only about 80 built in Granby in 1970.Owned by Granby bodyshop operator Jules Spooner, the car bears the same custom paint job that won it an international award in 1972.But despite the weather, those who dodged the raindrops did get a chance to see some rare cars, without big crowds getting in the way.“People who came seemed to like that,” Foisy said. The cars were judged in 32 different classes, including hot rods. But some classes weren’t filled, and other cars were often in a class by themselves.Top honors this year went to Gilles Godbout of Granby for his outstanding contribution to the world of antique cars. With two antiques in the show and another two still in the restoration process Godbout restores an old car about every two years. 6—BROME COUNTY NEWS—Wednesday, September 18, 1996 SmT mm» Celebrate our Fall Foliage Season HIKING, CYCLING & GOLFING are a few activities to enjoy Open for Lunch Tues.-Sun.12:00 -
