BUILD-ING.Magog, Aug.14—(Special)—Fire bruke out yesterday morning about six o'clock in the mill belonging to Manton & Boright, with the result that the entire buildings are a total loss.On the fire being discovered an alarm was immediately sent in and the tire brigade responded.Willing hands were soon at work in an endeavor to save the property but it was found that nothing c uid be done to save the building and the attention of the workers was directed towards saving the adjoining properties and the contents of the mill.The house next to the mill had an iron roof and this certainly saved it from igniting.A goodly portion of the contents of the mill was saved although in a somewhat damaged condition.The loss will amount to about 850(H), and Messrs.Manson A Boright carried only 81000 and 'hat was on the stock, so that the building will he a total loss.The insurance on the building was allowed to lapse a short time ago.The fire is supposed to have been started by tramps as several height, weight, 170 lbs., 27 or 30 years old,sandy hair and moustache, no whiskers, stooping forehead, sack coat light cloth, peak cap, heavy gold ring on little finger of right hand, gold watch chain, dark shi»*t ar.d collar.Anothtrofthe men wanted is the same height, dark hair and moustache, no whiskerH,dark clothes,sack coat, 30 years of age, bruised on right side of face, black cloth peak cap, datk shirt and collar, weight 160.The third man is five feet eight inches in height, 50 years of age, grey hair and moustache,no whiskers dark clothes, cut away coat, soft brown felt hat, 150 lb.The agents of the road have been notified to look out for men answering the above description.It is not known what they are wanted for.ALLEGED HORSE THIEF ARRESTED.High Constable Moe brough back to Sherbrooke this morning a young man named Lachance on a charge of having stolen a horse and buggy from T.Peck’s livery stable rotne time ago.It would appear that the man just arrested hiied the horse from the livery stable in question and drove to Capelton, where he disposed of the whole oufit to a party for 899.Fifty dollars was paid in cash and the remaining $40 was to be called for the next Saturday.He failed to turn up, however and it was thought he had gone to the States.The Cupel ten man drove down to Sherbrooke shortly afterwards, when he discovered that his purchase had been stolen.An endeavor was made to locate Lachance hut it was not until last week when hw wrote from the Statas asking that the 840 he forwarded to him.Instead of this being done, High Constable Moe paid him a visit with the above result.The Regatta of the Masgawippi Canoe Club which took place at North Hatley on Saturday afternoon last is now looked upon, not only by the large number of huiiiiik r visitors at Hatley but by a large contingent from Sherbrooke who always go up to make the event the success it always is, the gala day of the season, and Saturday last was no exception to the rule* The weather was perfect for such an occasion, the sun f-hono out bright and there was a delightful breeze which materially aided the sailing events.The attendance was the largest that has ever Granby belotiging to Mr.Monty, and at one time it looked as if a considerable pi rtion of the village would be wiped out.A good supply of water and willing help kept the dames, howe er, from spreading.As it is the loss is a very heavy one, being estimated at about 815,(MR), and the help employed, it being the chief industry in the place, will suffer a good deal as, even if the factory is rebuilt, it will be s< me time before the majority of them can get to work.A barn be'onging to Mrs.S.F.Willard was destroyed, and her house was one time in great danger, but by hard work it was
