The Sherbrooke Examiner.SEMI • WEEKLY EDITION.! VOL.IV.NO 1/ New Series.“OTTO” COKE Fop Domestic Dse Sr^ !>L?For Furnace, Stove or Range.A New Smokeless Fuel that takes the Place of C0AL, Lights Quick No Smoke, Dust or Soiled Hands “OTTO” COKE may be burned in any furnace, stove, range o grate suitable for coal.Build a tire same as for coal Put on a mod erate supply of Coke before lighting, and in a few minutes you have a good fire.If the coke is dry, moisten the next lot you put on, as it will give a steadier heat and last longer.Do not shake or rake the fire much.To keep over night, let the ashes collect about two inches over the grate and fill the fire-box well up with damp fine Coke and close the draughts.BEMEMBER^^a, This fuel requires but little draught when once ignited, and it is more economical to have a large body of Coke tnder a slow fire than a little Coke burning a quick fire.Use Nut Coke for small House Furnaces, Kitchen Ranges and Open Grates.Use Stove Coke for medium House Heaters and Small Boilers.Shake down ash only once in a day or tv\o, and stop when the first bright coals drop.Nut and Stovj Siz3S pep Ton $5.5 i Delivered.Sole Eastern Townships Destributois.J.S.MITCHELL & CO.?.It’s Time to Plan. For agoMrs.Hunt, daughter of the late Judge Gale of Montreal, and widow of Dr.Sterry Hunt, the eminent mineralogist, published a little book of verse for private circulation.Encouraged by the kindly reception given to this, Mrs.Hunt has been induced to venture a larger volume upon the market.Besides a very pleasing little dramatic sketch, “In Bohemia,” from which the title of the book is taken, a considerable number of poems on widely diversified topics are given. The portion devoted to “Foreign Lands,” for example, includes several very dainty pieces setting fortii the impressions of the writer while travelling through some of the most interesting lands of the Old World. But a still larger number are distinguished by their true Canadian sentiment and ring the romanticism of Notre Dame de Bonsecours and Old Quebec, the broad sweep of the Manitoba prairies—forming a valuable contribution to the growing body of high-class Canadian verse.A somewhat unique feature for a book of poems is the addition of several fine illustrations. The book is gotten up in first-class style as regards typography and binding, and from every point of view commends itself to holiday gift purchases.William headquarter! of the Transvaal polio* force at Modderfontcin, where the dynamite factory buildings will be used as barracks.General Roberts, who has turned over his command to General Kitchener, will embark for England on a steamer that will call at St.Helena, where General Cronje and many other Boers are prisoners of war.He is expected to arrive home on January 2nd.Prior to leaving.General Roberts issued a farewell oilier, praising the army for its conduct during the campaign. He referred to the sufferings and hardships of the troops, which, he said, were endured uncomplainingly. He added that they had marched enormous distances at incredible speed over precipitous mountains and through dense jungles.Their food and clothing were often scanty, and they were continually shot at by an invisible enemy. They acted according to the highest standard of patriotism, and made the army respected and feared in South Africa. In conclusion General Roberts said : “I regard you, my gallant comrades, with affection and admiration. You will live in memory to my life’s end.” TO COMMAND CANADIAN TROOPS London, December?-The Weetniinster Gaz tte sayg: General Sir Charles Warren, at one times
