biliousness.Detroit, Nov.27.-One of the most disastrous wrecks in the history of the Wabash Railroad, or any other Michigan railroad, occurred at Seneca, Mich., a small way station about 70 miles southwest of Detroit, between 7 and 7.30 o’clock to-night.Train No.13, an emigrant traiv with two engines, westbound, ^oRded, under a full head of steam, with train No.4 eastbound, about one mile from Seneca. The result was that five or six coaches on the emigrant train were crushed, and its load of human freight sent into eternity in a moment, while train No.I, which consisted of a parlor car, dining and baggage car, was also telescoped, and four dead bodies have been taken from the ruins.FIRE FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY.It is not known how many people there were on the emigrant train but the list of the dead, injured and burned will be anywhere from 60 to 150.The people on that train were caught like raw* in a trap and crushed. Then the wreck caught fire, and those who were not in stantly killed were burned to death, and none of the few specta tors who hastily gathered from the farmhouses nearby were able t< afford aid.The whole emigrant train was soon consumed by the 11 ames, and every person on that train, it is reported now, was kill ed.Farmers residfj)^.^cing the n on the blazing mass to rescue those who, they thought, might dive.SCENE ALONQ.THE TRACK.The bodies hauled out of the wreck were taken to nearby farmhouses, which are filled with dead, and a large number of injured to a hospital at Peru, Ind.Along the track long lines of burned bodies lie covered with blankets, presenting a gruesome sight. It may be that the exact number of killed probably will never be known. At present it is impossible to get anything resembling a list of injured or dead from Seneca.THE CAUSE.It is said here that the accident was the result of a misunderstanding of orders. It is reported in Seneca that No.4 should have waited at Seneca Station, and No.1* should have taken the This wa« .u •s.vj.*7f»ou the crash came. The net result is that one whole train, No.13, is burned, theengines are complete wrecks on both trains, and on No.4 the coach between the dining and the baggage car is crushed into kindling wood.It is reported at the Union Station here that the train No.4, east-bound, passed its meeting point at Sand Creek, and came on towards Seneca, meeting.No.13, the emigrant train, west of Seneca.LATER DETAILS.It is estimated, from the reports received from the scene of the wreck from 100 to 150 persons were killed or injured in the most disastrous railroad wreck in the history of Michigan railroads. At midnight for miles around the country was lighted up by the burning cars, and the fiâmes could not be quenched because of lack of proper apparatus.Mangled bodies were picked up along the trac k by the farmers before the special train from Adrian arrived on the scene.* In «unie instances the todies were mangled beyond all recognition. The bodies which the re-cu-#»rs manage d to pull from the burning ruins ot the emigrant cars were so badly burned that their identity will probably never l>e ascertain ed.Export Horse Trade. The regular exiuirt trade of hoi-e* ha* been any thing but satisfactory owing to the fact that those who made a business of it have, since the demand sprung up for horses for the war in Soutn Africa, been buying throughout the country and re-selling to the British Government, consequently the shipments on consignment have fallen off, and besides, the trade in the leading foreign markets has been bad throughout the season. In t ie Liverpool market prices ranged from .C35 to £55 per head for heavy horses, and at £25 to £23 for “bussiers.** In London sales were made at prices running from £26 to £*15 en eh, and in some cases as high as £75 to £hki were reai /.*d for fancy carriage, saddle or trotting horses. The shipments of horses to Sonth Airica b\ the Government tor tin season 1901 were 6,0IS head, as against 3,750 in 1900, showing an increase of 2,29*> head.BABY’S HEALTH.The Teething Period Dangerous to Little Ones and Very Trying to Mothers. What mother does not look forward with dread to the time when baby shall be teething? At that time baby is restless, feverish and irritable, and frequently there is some disorder of the bowels and stomach. The poor little sufferer is fighting one of his first battles in this old world of pain, and if not aided in his fight may be overcome.Every wise mother helps the little sufferer as much as she •an, and the mothers who have been most successful in this respect have found that Baby’s Own Tablets give just such assistance as the little one needs.Mrs.W.I Wright, Brockville, says: “1 have used Baby’s Own Tablets piite frequently, and am much pleased with them.I find them especially satisfactory during baby’s first year.I have used them in twething, in vomiting, in colic, in indigestion, and in the disorders of the stomach and bowels usually accompanied by restlessness and fever. The action of the Tablets htis always been all that could be iesired.” Baby’s Own Tablets area sweet, pleasant IRtle lozenge that all children will take readily. They can be crushed or dissolved water and administered with safe ty to even the youngest infant Guaranteed to contain no opiate or any of the poisonous stuffs that make the so-called soothing medi cines What Canada Is Doing, There is a tendency- -fiy some quarters to cr’&fcs/e the Govern ïSëïii oîi the ground th»»t it is not doing sufficient to aid ihe Imperial authorities in comparison with the help rendered by other colonies. The*e critics appear to forget that in addition to despatching two contingents to Suuth Africa the Canadian Government has for about two vears maintained a regiment at Halifax in order to release from garrison duty there au Imperial corps which is now on active service. The maintenance of this regiment at Halifax entails an expenditure of about $1,000 a day, or $300,000 a year.Supplies for meeting this expense have been voted until .June 30 next, by which time Canada will have contributed nearly a million of dollars, in addition to a previous outlay of 82,000,000, towards the defence of Imperial interests.i \\ i i .m “See, Will, I've dinner ready, and it’s just io minutes past 12 to the minute.“I know exactly how long it takes to get dinner on our close, as far as the ma nufarturers are concerned, and to the McClary Company, of London Out., this has been the crowning year in their experience.Althougl their foundries, which are among the largest in Canada, have been running their full capacity all year, as well as a good deal of overtime, this company is said to have been forced to cancel thou sands of dollars worth of orders because they were unable to turn out the goods in time. This great popularity of Mc-Clary’s “Famous stoves and furnaces is not the result of mere accident or of any sudden caprice on the part of the stove-buying public, but is due to oyer fifty years of honest dealing with up-to-date goods, a level-headed use of experience gained, and pricesright.During this long period of years the McClary people have from time to time brought out many new and improved stoves and furnaces, and have always, with the help of judicious advertising, found a ready market for their new lines. The advertising of thr* McClary Company has, in the last few years, become so important a factor in the r business that they felt the necessity of making it a distinct department, which was done last spring.Since then this work has been under the management of Mr.J.E.McConnell.This year the company have advertised only three lines, viz.:— The “Famous Active” range, the “Cornwall” steel range, and the “Sunshine” furnace Ffte ‘famous Active” is their leading cast-îroï.and is per- haps the best-known and'TnosV Hjpular kitchen stove in Canada. It is undoubtedly one of the most handsome, and its makers claim is the only range on the market equipped with all the later impro vements. For instance, they say that while other ranges on the market may have the ventilated oven, basting door, or thermome ter, no one of them has all three while the “Famous Active” has Besides these, it has many other strong features, such as clinker less duplex grates, heavy sectional cast-iron linings, a thick layer of cement between bottom of stove and the oven steel lining, poker hole in fire door, sectional covers and an exceptionally rich nickel dress. The sales of this favorite Canadian range this year have trebled those of last.Their “Cornwall” steel range piite new on the market, and yet u* sales and the general satisfac tion reported from those in use already assures its success.Tin range differs from most steel ranges in 4''at it has a clean, grace ful outline, distinctly u»o .and is shapely build, combined witii its rich nickel dress, which contrasts beautifully with the highly-polished hammered steel body, makes the “Cornwall’' a range of which the McClary Company have just reason *n be proud. The “Sunshine” is the furnace which the McClary Manufacturing Company have been advertising this year, and when it is known that scores of «orders tor this hotair heater have had to be canceled, because* the furnaces could not be supplied, some idea of its suces* ami popularity may be form'd.The “Sunshine” is made in three sizes, burns coal, coke, or wood, anil has every known improvement An American furnace expert.who bought duplicate iron patterns of the “Sunshine” for his company, described it as the most commor.-sen -e furnace he ever saw.The sale of McClary’* “Famous” Stoves, Ranges and Furnace* in Sherbrooke and vicinity this year will greatly exceed that of last, which strongly testifies to the nd vertising va.ue oftlie“ExAM1NKR, in which they have used space re guiarly all this season.Thanksgiving Day was observed as a public holiday, and in the forenoon a united service was held in the Baptist Church. The Rev.Mr.Lett, pastor of the Methodist Church, was the preacher and Rev.Mr.Shearer, St.Andrew's Church, presided. The music was furnished by a united choir.SUITER AND ENTERTAINMENT.The annual Thanksgiving supper and entertainment, given by the ladies of the Methodist Church last evening in the lecture hall of the church was a very successful affair.About 200 sat down to the wellladen tables, which were also very tastefully and invitingly laid.Hubbard’s orchestra gave several pleasing selections while supper was being served.VYrhen full justice had been done to the good
