Wedding. The home of Mr.II.E.Cairns of East Clifton was the scene of a and most enjoyable gather- on the evening of the 9th hist., rare, ing, the occasion being the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding day.As the shades of evening began to fall, the house itself appeared to express congratulations by the beauty of its illu mination, while the many friends from all parts of the surrounding country came to offer their most hearty congratulations, to Mr.and Mrs.Cairns, on that their golden-wedding day.Besides the many friends from the immediate vicinity were friends and relatives from many parts of the United States. The family, consisting of three sons and two daughters, were all present to contribute théir parts to the success of the gatheringt After spending some time in congratulations, etc., the guests, num.Bering about one hundred, sa-down to an excellent repast, after which the programme of the evening was announced. It consisted of the following selections.Prayer, Rev.Mr.Boshart; instrumental solo, Mrs.Boshart; address, by Hon.Mr.Sawyer; dialogue, bv four grand-children; quartette, by two sons and two daughters of the family; address by Mr.Robert Cairns, brother of Mr.H.E.Cairns.Mrs.Hollis Abbot then read the following original poem:— y How many changes there have been Since fifty years ago; And looking back, to you, life must Seem like a passing show: But one thing ever has been true And subject to no change, Your love for each has stronger grown And has taken broader range. The home circle has grown larger With the passing flight of years, And the name of grandpa and grandma Fill your eyes with happy tears. For there’s nothing like affection To make life’s pathway dear, And keep us from despairing Upon our voyage here. For life is like an ocean voyage; Starting out so fair and calm. And we thank our heavenly father While we sing a heartfelt psalm. Then the storms and waves come raging And we sing our psalm no more And we only look with longing To the dim and distant shore.Men's ^ Overcoats It is not much of a trick to get an Overcoat at $10 or $12 ooj Any clothier can sell you one.The trick is in getting a really swel garment at that price. Our Overcoats have style and quality combined, all made by expert tailors. The Coat we have at $10.00 are made of Heavy Grey Mixed, Long, with Raglan Pockets and Cuffs, with Box Back, a real swell coat at that price.Don’t pay $12.00 or $15.00 elsewhere for inferior garments, but come right to our store and get ours.BOUCHER & LACROIX, Bernardston, Mass., then read the following address : — Dear father and mother,—Your friends have gathered to-day to show their good will and offer you congratulations on the 50th anniversary of your marriage.Your children also are very glad to be with you in the old heme, together once more, and we would give to you a loving greeting. We realize as we look around us that time is passing and we are growing old.We feel also that our home has been unusually free from sorrow, our family having been unbroken for so many years. Our Heavenly Father has been wonderfully kind in his dealings with us, and although we are not all now able to see you every day and go to you for loving counsel when trials come (as they do to us all) still we have, 1 trust, all of us something of the nriciple of right living which has been held up before us by your example, and whether we are far away from you or near by we have only loving thoughts and sweet memories 01 our childhood’s home. And now as a souvenir of this occasion we bring these gifts, not because of their value, but as a small token of our affection, and we heartily join in saying “May God’s blessing rest upon you, and when our earthly home is broken may we all be united at last in our Eternal Home.” The quartette then rendered the “Golden Wedding", after which Mr.Cairns was called upon for an address, which ho cave in youthful style. He spoke pleasantly of the da>Ts when Deselected for his bride the blushing and beautiful lady by his side, and though they had together stoodjthe testings of fifty years, they were still in the honeymoon season. He also stated that any progress that marked his life was due to the blessing of God ami the Methodist Church. The Chairman of the evening was Mr.Hollis Cairns, youngest son of the honoured couple, who performed his part excellently. All joined injmost hearty congratulations and best wishes for many happy days.OATS ALL REQUIRED IN CANADA.Through shade and sunshine, fifty years The storms of life you've braved; And many hardships have been passed And yet your lives are saved. To meet here with friends and children On this your wedding day, Ami with all mirth and gladness, To drive dull care away. For when this meeting is over.We shall drift apart once more. And perhaps we shall never all meet again Til1 we reach the other shore. But may God in his infinite mercy Keep us from shipwrecks till the voyage is o’er.And guide us safe to Heaven at last Where partings will be no more. But then the sun comes out once more The sea is calm, there are friendly sails, We drift along and answer back To friends and comrade’s cheery hails So now together again we meet And bid “God Speed" on the way To the Heaven we all are bound for At the closing of life’s day.At the conclusion of the reading of this poem Mr.Arthur Cairns presented Mr.and Mrs.Cairns with two beautiful chairs, followed by a short address from the Rev.Mr.Boshart.Mrs.Geo.Hodgins, daughter, of Shipments to S.Africa Decrease as Prices Rise In Canada.Ottawa Dec.14.Speaking of the shipments of oats by the Department of Agriculture on account of the War Office, Professor Robertson said to oay he feared some erroneous information had found its way into the press.Several weeks ago the Department obtained permission from the War Office to ship to South Africa a limited Quantity of oats from Alberta. The Department is not under any contract to deliver a specified quantity.Acting as agent for the War Office, the Department was also endeavoring to provide a market for the farmers in the Northwest, who through their representatives, had intimated that they would not be able to sell tlieir oats at living prices.Since agreements were made to handle their oats a very active tie raand has sprung up from various quarters in Canada A cablegram from the War Office some ten days ago intimated that they were buying oats from elsewhere than Canada, delivered in South Africa at fourteen cents per bushels less than quotations based on the current market prices in Canada.Professor Robertson supposes although he has not direct informations on the subject, that the War Office are containing oats from New Zealand and Australasia. The Department is still shipping large quantities of hay, but owing to the advance in the price of oats and the active demand in Canada, only small quantities of t his grain is going forward on the hay ships to South Africa.SION OF THE BIG GLOBE, 163 WELLINGTON STREW INSURANCE POLICIES -j* (4Tcarefully wn ten at lowest rates.Security the y'r'a+ ^ If you want perfect satisfaction
