Mr.W.M.Tomlinson, secretary, was in attendance.Among those present were :— Messrs.A.Ames, W.R.Webster, C.H.Fletcher,II.R.Fraser, W.II.YViison, John A.Wiggett, E.W.Farwell, J.R.Woodward, J.S.Mitchell, F.H.Wilson, C.1).White, Wm.Morris, G.G.Bryant, G.A.LeBaron, R.W Heneker, W.S.Dresser, G.H.Bradford, Jas.Cochrane, Hillhurst ; H.D.Smith, Compton; Dr.Pelletier, C.A.French, W.J.Hunt, J.R.Archambault, John Maguire, Jos.Shuter.DIRECTORS, REPORT.The report of the Directors was read by Mr.W.M Tomlin non, secretary, and was as follows :— To the shareholders of the Eastern Townships Agricultural Association: Gentlemen,—Four Directors have much pleasure in informing you that the past year has been in every respect a successful and progressive one, the last Exhibition both as regards exhibits and attendance beating all previous records.It was decided to prolong the time of the show from five to seven days, and a full programme of attractions was arranged for Monday of Fair week, the increase in receipts that day7 being $200.05 over the same day last year.In May last, owing to illness, the Hon.John McIntosh tendered his resignation as President of the Association, and at a meeting of the Directors held that month, a resolution was passed regretting the resignation of Mr.McIntosh and expressing appreciation of his services during his long term of office.Mr.Dussault was then unanimously elected President to succeed Mr.McIntosh and Mr.Ames, vice-president to replace Mr.Dussault.Fresh eff orts will again be made this year to induce the 'Provincial Government to grant the Association special aid for a further term of years, but up to the present time without success.It has been decided to send » deputation to wait on the Ministers this month, petitioning them to continue the annual grant of $5000.00 for a further term of five years, or failing this to guarantee an issue of debenture bonds for the purpose of putting our buildings into proper condition, and vour consideration and approval of this second proposition, will be asked, in the event of the first not being granted.The City of Sherbrooke again generously allowed an extra grant of $1000.00 to be spent on permanent improvements and with this assistance the Machinery Hall was converted into a Horticultural and Agricultural Building, new horse sheds were erected to replace those blown down the previous Fall, and a large amount of new fencing constructed, the total cost of these improvements being $1024.03.Turning to Exhibition account the total receipts were $23,94H 00, an increase of $2150.03 over last year.Gates and turnstiles show an increase of $ ISO.10, and grand stand receipts $085.08.The sale of grand stand reserved seats was continued on a larger scale this year, the net results from these seats being $500.25.Entry fees show a gratifying increase of $531.10 and privileges $270.00.A Bench Show wTas added this year a id while not a financial success, it proved an attractive feature of the Exhibition; the Bench Show receipts from entry fees, admissions and other sources were $210.-85, and the expenses including wages, prizes, etc., were $288.70.Grants from the Quebec Govern ment and the City of Sherbrooke were the same as last year, while special prizes show an increase of $310 00.The Local Society grant! was reduced to $200.00 or $07.55 i less than l1»), and Parcels Office ! receipts were $1.05 less.On the other hand the total expenditure on Exhibition account was $19,-954.07, oi $1,429.20 more than last year.Prizes account shows an increase of $883.85; attractions, $449.42; wages, $412.59; general expense, $248.30; hay' and straw, $11.90; these accounts being necessarily larger owing to the longer duration of the Exhibition.Judges fees show an increase of $88.58, and the net amount paid ftir prize lists $.38.28.Printing and stationery is about the same; on the other hand advertising is $80.58 less; general repairs $010.03, and postage $230.71.The amount transferred to profit and loss was $3993.93 and this account, after deducting insurance and|intei est, show s a gain for the year of $3172.09.In addition to the standing loan of $1000.00 on the 1st of January, 1901, the liability of the Association was a short note of $2800.00, less cash on hand $280.01; the amount this year has been decreased to $1200 on a short note, less cash on hand, $198 30, showing a net liability at the end of the year of $1001.70 in addition to the standing loan, or $1511.00 less than last year.During Exhibition week we were favored with beautiful weather.The result of the attractions were again satisfactory, the receipts from the two evenings performances being $14(.H).00.On Wednesday of Fair week w’e were honored by a visit from our patron, Hon.Mr.Decheiib, Minister of Agriculture, and the Hon.Mr.Duffy.Provincial Treasurer, and both these gentlemen expressed themselves as pleased with the management and progress of the Exhibition.Finally your Directors believe that with increased facilities for the accommodation of exhibitors and visitors, there is every prospect of a bright future for the Association.The sincere thanks of the Association are due the Provincial Government, the City of Sherbrooke, the E.T.Bank, the Dominion Shorthorn Breeders’ Association, the Hon.M.H.Cochrane, S.('.Nutter, S.L.Clough, the Hotel Keepers and Merchants of Sherbrooke, and others for grants and special prizes, and to the Directors of the Local Society for their assistance during Exhibition week.The whole respectfully submitted.N.T.Dussai lt, W.M.Tomlinson, President.Sec.-Treas.The following officers were elect- ed Ifiinis-M De-Agri British Tost flttaGked THE BOERS REPULSED IN A SHARP FIGHT.Kitchener Denies Report SOLD.Realized $1450 by Auction.The property in the square recently acquired by the city for the proposed new improvements, and the old city hall property were put up to auction yesterday morning.Some time ago the city called for tenders, and an offer of $1,500 was put in, but there were certain conditions laid down in the said tender that the Committee who had charge of the sale, decided that better could bo done by putting up the property to public auction.Although only $1150 was realized at the sale the city has made a distinct gain because they reserve that portion of the Beckett property now occupied by Mr.Sampson and others, and tin-property was included in the tens der for $1,500.It is the intention of the Council, we understand, to erect a new No.3 Are station with the buildings which they have retained either on the present site, or in the East Ward.There was a very good attendance at the sale, which was conducted by Mr, J.J.Griffith, auc-tioner, The.properties were disposed off as follows : Joncas property, was bid in by Mr.I).McManamy for $75 ; old Merchants Bank property, and that adjoining, to Mr.Hawkins for $525 ; Beckett Block, to Mr.Bruno for $300 ;
