believe in reciprocity? If you do why not patronize those of whom you ask favors ?your Their Secret Is Out.All Sadieville, Ky., was curious to learn the cause of the vast improvement in the health of Mrs.S.P.Whittake, who had for a long time, endured untold suffering from a chronic bronchial trouble.“It’s all due to Dr.King’s New Discovery,” writes her husband. It completely cured her and also cured oqr little grand daughter of a severe attack of Whooping Cough. It positively cures Coughs, Colds, La Grippe, Bronchitis, all Throat and Lung troubles.Guaranteed bottles 5 c and $1 00.Trial U.F.Church, Edinburgh.Ordained in 1800, Mr.Cochrane, in the course of his lengthened ministerial career achieved a record which must be hard to beat.In the populous Pleasance area he tied the knot in nearly 4.000 marriage ceremonies, and baptised over 4,000 children. One New Year’s Eve he performed the remarkable feat of marrying 21 couples, five minutes being regarded as rather long for one job.The deceased s wide experience gave his views great weight His experience in working class districts made him a believer in comparatively early marriages.Valuable Advice to Mothers. If your child comes in from play coughing or showing evidences of an approaching attach of Grippe, Sore Throat, or sickness of any kind, first thing get out your bottle of Nerviline.Hub the chest and neck with Nerviline, and give internal doses of ten drops of Ner viline in sweetened water every two hours. This will prevent any serious trouble. No liniment or pain reliever equals Poison’s Nerviline, which is a necessity in every household.Large bottles cost only 25c.Medal and Gratuity.Lord Dundonald has made representations to the War oflice not only in favor of a war medal for the 3rd, 4th, 5th and fith Canadian Mounted Rifles, but that they should also receive the special Imperial war gratuity of £5 per man.Ir is taken for granted that the troops will get the Colonial gra tuity of £5.but that the special Imperial gratuity seems to have been reserved only for those troops who served in the field. The 2 id C.M.R.fought at Hart's River and were six months in South Africa. They will probably get both sums.Up to date the Canadian troops have b^en paid in gratuities a sum aggr egating about $100,090.Any Individual is benefitied by visiting the MAGI Lotiirop's City Laundry and Steam Dye Works herb rook ej; Body of Alfred Beauchamp Found In Cove Fields.Quebec, Aug.21 A man named Alfred Beauchamp, of this city, well known in lalnir circlet*, as secretary of the ‘Longshoreman's Cnion*, was found murdered on the Cove Fields this morning. The body was discovered lying in a pool of blood between the two towers not far from the Grande Allee, ami everything points to a foul murder, as there were traces of blood fully a hundred feet from where the remains were found. The body has been removed to the morgue and the police are investigating. The deceased, who was over foity years of age, has a number of relatives in this city.ARREST OF THE SLA Y ER.arrested later in the day charged with having been responsible for Beauchamp's death.Foitin, who was severely cut about the body, did not deny his guilt; on the contrary, he admitted the responsibility. He gave the following story: “I was on the Cove Fields last night in company with a young woman At about 10.30 o’clock a man lushed to me and commenced to assault me, while at the same time he held a knife in his hand.I drew my knife and fought him back, and finally succeeded in gaining the best of him, when I s tw Sergt.Lyndon at a distance and went find told of tin* occurrence.I was not aware that I killed the man, and if I did, it was in self-defence ” Fortin gave up to the police the knife he used on the dead man, while a penknife was found beside the body of Beauchamp The police are making a further inves tigation and expect to locate the two girls, one of whom was with Sergt.Lyndon and the other with Fortin, at the time of the t rouble, in order to know’ their statements.Remarkable Career of a Burglar. One of the most perplexing, fascinating and psychologically interesting criminals ever unmasked is the Hon.Clarence Adams, former State representative of Vermont, chairman of the Board of Selectmen of Chester, Vt, trustee of the town library ami inc >i porator of the Chester Savings Bank After a long and honorable career as the leading citizen of Chester, Mr.Adams has now been proved to have been the author of fifty one burglaries during th^ past sixteen years. He robbed the post office, robbed the express office, robbed his relatives ami robbed everybody. He stole everything from the contents of safes to cattle feed. His position as leading citizen enabled him to know what steps 1rs neighbors were taking to protect their properly. It was only b euise one man forgot to mention that he had set a burglar trap in the shape of a spring gun that Mr.Adams was caught at last.Adams was the most studious and refined man in Chester, and possessed a library of 2,000 books. In a remarkable confession, Adams has explained that every man has criminal impulses at times. Some resist them, and others yield to them entirely He differs from ordinary men in that he led a good and ft bad life at the same time.He was a true Jrkyll and Hyde.A Year Old Story.Referring to a despatch from Montreal announcing the early retirement of the Hon.Mr.Duffy to the Bench» the Qn .*b*c Chronicle says on Saturday that this story has been doing duty for the last year, and has been denied by Mr.Duffy over and over again.LACROSSE.Sherbrooke Head Eastern Section of League. The Sherbrooke Lacrosse Club were scheduled to play with the Quebecers on Saturday in the In terpi ovineial Lacrosse League series. It was to have been the final match of the season, but Fre aident T.J.Maguire received a telegram from the Quebec officials, which simply said “Quebec Club disbanded.” The match therefore goes to Sherbrooke by default. The Sherbrooke team are to be congratulated on winning all the matches they played this season. The two matches with the Mascottes were stubbornly contested, a id it w a h« fine SIR ROBERT BOND GOES TO WASHINGTON.Will Negotiate For Reel procity. No Confederation For Newfoundland.London, Aug.23.-Sir Robert Bond, the Premier of Newfound land, sailed yesteiday morning for the 1 nited States, to confer with Washington regarding the Bond-Blaine treaty. The Newfoundland Premier has declared himself in favor of free trade with the United States as against a union of the colony with the Dominion of Canada His success in obtaining imperial sanction lor his present American visit is the culmination of twelve years of persistent effort, and only this week was lie able to convince the government of the injustice done to Newfoundland by the non ratification of the convention, and able to secure its consent for the resumption of the reciprocity negotiations. The Premier of Newfoundland will lose no time in getting to work and the British Charge D al-faires will communicate with the State Department shortly after the Premier’s arrival in America.Precaution Against Disease.Ottawa, August 23.On the strength of au order-in council passed recently, a proclamation will be issued by the government putting in force ‘an set to amend the immigration act.’ passed last session. In view of the large num hers of immigrants w ho are now coming from foreign countries to Canada and to the United States via Canadian ports, it has been deemed expedient to prohibit the landing in Canada absolutely of any immigrant or other passenger who is suffering from any loath soma, dangerous or intectuous disease or malady, whether such immigrant or passenger intends to settle in Canada or only intends to pass through to settle in some other country, and whom the Minister of the Interior or officer to whom he entrusts the matter considers ought not to be allowed to land in Have Electric Light.Corporation^WUl Instal Plant.Windsor Mills has awakened to the tact that one of their greatest draw backs is the need of street lights. The old company that held the charter for lighting the town, have given up their charter and the Town Council has taken the matter in hand. The Councillors decided that the best plan was for the Corporation to put in a plant of its own and asked the rate payers to give them power to take action, borrowing the money to put in the plant ’and improve the present water system.A poll was held on Monday and Tuesday, in the Town Office, Begin’s Block, and a vote taken by the ratepayers, the result being a majority of 19 votes in favor of the Town putting in its own system and giving the Council power to act The Council has lost no time in looking into the matter and there is good prospects of having the plant installed this fall. They propose purchasing the old Clarke privilege and running a tube down a short distance from there, where thdv will have a head of 25 feet, which will furnish sufficient power to light the whole town.A steam engine is also to be put in to be used in cases of necessity. If their plans are fully carried out, Windsor Mills will have the best electric light and water system in the Eastern Townships. They calculate that they will derive enough revenue from the sale of house lights, so that the street lights will be fiee.We congratulate the Windsor people on the step they have taken and wish them success in their undertaking.—Richmond Timex, Mr.RlGlta^MGCallum A well known citizen of complains of the tone of a portion of the Ontario press concerning the French-Cauadians whom it con siders as enemies in the British colonial camp.It says that tolei ance o i both sides is absolutely necessary if we wish to live in harmony, and that the duty of all is to work for the prosperity of Canada, the sons of whicu we all are, whatever may be our origin. The at tide concludes as follows: ‘Our opinions on the British Empire are well known; they have often been expressed by our political leaders, whose loyalty has never been questioned. It is by going to the leaders of our race that our English confreres will learn such opinions. They will be very much mistaken if ithey accept as a criterion of our sincerity the speeches of a few irresponsible hotheads or the articles of petty newspapers having no influence.Let then the people in the west cease to reproach us on our origin Never will they succeed in Anglifying us, but we are quite as loyal as our English compatriots, and like them also we are proud of our nationality. They should not forget that they are a minority in the Empire, and that by virtue of our constitution itself, they have not the right to impose on us their language. With a little good will it would be easy to live here without stupid frictions between races. We are all Canadians.’ Thlrd.fl.^C.RJiTo**Leaver Halifax.il HSirr' A Halifax special to the
