either Protestant oi Catholic was forced on public at tention by the recent decision in icgardtoJews in the Protestant schools. The consequence has been some much needed amend ments in the statute law of the Province.Mr.Weir, M.P.P., by the substitution of the words “and religious denomination other than the Roman Catholic Church” for the term Protestant, has extended the rights of marriage by banns oi license to the Orthodox Greek Church, the Hebrew congrega tior.s, whose position was previously anomalous and probably also to the faith-healers, spiritualists and other collections of believers of a particular set of dogmas, though the exact extent to which such bodies can be termed religious denominations is a matter of dispute. The Jews y re also given the right to call their banns on Saturday. The educational amendments are not yet passed.By Marconigraph.Believed In Scotland That General Was Victim of Malicious Attacks, London, March 28 Scottish sen timent, which was strongly excited bv the idea of General Hectui Macdonald being buried in Paris, where he killed himself, has operated to bring about the re turn of the body to General Macdonald’s home. The glamer of hit tlioomflll career ami his personal pjpulaiity far outweighed any consideration of the circumstances of his death and several Scottish societies comtmi nicated with the general's brother, urging that the body be brought to the Highlands. These commit ideations in more that one instance wet e accompanied by an offer to bear the whole expense. The War Office’s announcement that the remains would be interred in Paris was made after an expression of the brother’s wishes.Shortly afterwards the general’s son, who is about sixteen years old, and who was acting on behalf of his mother, from whom the general separated years ago, came to Loudon and requested that the inter ment be in Scotland. He announced that he was going to Paris to get the body. The War Office thereupon offer ed to stand aside and left the arrangements to the family. The son is now in Paris, and other relatives are on the way there. The burial will probably be at Black Isle, Rossshire There is likely to be an impressive gathering, as feeling is stirred to a depth seldom stirred in Scotland, where it is widely believed that General Macdonald was the victim of malicious attacks, OFFICIAL STATEMENTS.Paris, March 27—The British consul, A.P.Inglis, today issued a formal note announcing that the body of Major General Sir Hector Macdonald, who killed himself here on Wednesday, will be trans-jorted to Scotland, where the funeral service will occur.Orders from the War Office in London are to give every assistance to the family in the removal of the body to Scotland. This statement is intended to set at rest the reports that the body was to be buried here tonight.Serious Trouble at Fernie.North-West Mounted Police Have Been Called Out.Victoria, B.C., March 28-In view of the fact that trouble is expected at Fernie, in
