The theme of the parade was “French Canada of Tomorrow.”! The colorfully-dressed cadet: and majorette corps, for the | most part, played their march music clearly and distinctly, swung their arms uniformly, and marched with spirited steps' despite the high temperature and humidity. The float-riders were appeal-j ingly costumed and, in a few cases appeared to have considerable vitality in spite of the weather.Lillie John the Baptist for the day, Jacques Lapointe, seemed to take his role very seriously. His iamb, a March lamb named Joe from the Dominion Experimental Farm, was very well behaved. The sixteen floats, most ofi which were crafted by Antonio j Montour, all received applause! from the spectators.Although none could boast of striking! novelties such as were in evidence in last night’s Montreal parade, all were colorful, skilfully detailed, and successfully symbolic.PACEM IN TERRIS One interesting float portrayed the theme of “Pacem in Terris.” The United Nations! - was represented in a cardboard , , .model of its Secretariat Build- Rlon HO appeal CAPE TOWN (Reuters)—Nel-.son Mandela and six other men Another idealized 1he insti- jajiec) f0r life after a South tution of the family, employ- ^frjcan sabotage trial have de- Memphremagog pipeline pro ject is about 54,000,000 but the figure could be reduced to $3,200,000 if the city can get a Federal-provincial loan, which would reduce the total cost by over $600.000.Another $200,000 could be saved if the project is exempt from the new 11-percent federal tax on construction materials, he said., “We don't know yet if this 11-percent tax is applicable to this type of municipal project or not.We will get in touch with Ottawa next week about this,” said Mayor Na dean, “The Jlemphremagog pipeline project plan will be put into effect right away to eliminate our city’s water problem,” he said. The Sherbrooke Chamber of Commerce, at their last Monday’s meeting approved this project, and the proposed federal loan, 100-percenl, he said.MICRO-FILTERS It was decided that micro-filters would be used to fill er water coming through the pipes and (hat an ozone treatment plant would be desirable. The ozone treatment plant would add another $200.000 expense to the project and city council decided to look further into the matter before adopting the idea.“We have decided to wait for a while before installing such a treatment plant until we are more fully informed on the subject to find out if the results obtainable will justify the added expense,” said Mayor Nadeau.Ozone is a faintly blue, gaseous, allotropie form of oxygen used commercially for purifying drinking water. It is odorless and leaves no lasle in the water.NEAR FARNHAM FARNHAM — (StaH) — Robert Hamel.4, of Farnham drowned yesterday afternoon in a stream on his parents farm.Polica said the youngster wes apparently attempting to follow his father across the stream on a narrow crossing when he slipped and fell into the water.Viet Nam power team is planned WASHINGTON (AIM President Johnson has passed ihe word lo aides that along with' the assignment ol his new top command team to South Viet Nam, he wants the whole U.S.mission in Saigon beefed up as much as possible, i In laking a new look al the Southeast Asian crisis because of the resignation of Ambas sador Henry Cabot Lodge, John son is said to have determined that the time has come for the United States to make a major effort, as some officials phase it, “to turn Ihe war around.”!
