given an outline last night of the Model United Nations General Assent bly held at Plymouth, N il., May 3, 4 and 5, by the three students who attended from the district: Hugh Doherty, Peggy Lou A Canadian Citizen is a British Subject. As a British subject I have carried proudly over the past 40 years a dark blue passport stoutly bound in stiff linen board. The first three were United Kingdom passports. The fourth was a Canadian passport, no less handsome. But my fifth passport, the second Canadian one I have just acquired, is a humiliation.1 shall feel apologetic when I hand it out for inspection in foreign climes, but especially so in Britain.1 have seen better quality passports in the hands of citizens of underdeveloped countries.A passport is the most important document a Canadian may possess. When he is abroad it guarantees him the protection and help of both Canadian and British government representatives overseas.Passports on many occasions have saved men from starvation, false imprisonment and even death.Their design and substance therefore should be in keeping with their significance. Many times at immigration posts I have been complimented upon the imposing nature of my earlier United Kingdom and Canadian passports, especially by Americans who.for alt their riches, carry a flimsy green specimen. The pleasures of that little vanity are now over.1 feel sure that many Canadian businessmen, statesmen, journalists and others who travel frequently will wear one of the new passports to tatters long before its first five years of validity expire.Few of these new passports will be in good enough condition to receive the customary five years renewal and so last the owner 10 years. The new passport, furthermore, is much more vulnerable to forgery than the old one.An elementary breach of security in this respect is the printing on the inside of the front cover of the name of the company responsible for producing the paper.despite Ma and Pa will run in the general state elections in November a Democratic nomination has for generations guaranteed election. The vote reflected a centu-n of racial bitterness. The Negroes, following the advice of their leader Dr.Martin Luther King, voted as a bloc for Richmond Flowers, t h e only candidate for governor who pursued their votes.Flowers, Attorney General under segregationist Governor George as a stand-in for her husband.Flowers came a poor second and the other eight white candidates, including two former governors, were left far behind.George Wallace, who is finishing bis four-year term, moved heaven and earth in an attempt to change the State constitution which forbids him to succeed himself. He failed, and got 39-year-old Lurleen, blonde mother of four and an innocent in politics, to run for him.If she is elected in November she will be Governor of the State, but will leave the decisions to George.Officially he will he a “dollar a year” assistant in the Governor's mansion. The idea was hilarious at first, but it isn't any more. The “Ma and Pa Wallace” team is very likely to beat the probable Republican candidate, Goldwater Congressman James Martin, in November. The November election offers a very poor choice for the 235,000 registered Negro voters.Wallace, by his handling of the race problem, brought Alabama a bad name throughout the U.S.and the world.Martin is unlikely to appeal for Negro support. He claims he is more conservative even than Wallace, whom he labels a “liberal.” Judging by his present speeches, he will try to
