1, Teddy Reid; 2, Eric Allan; 3, Dennis Taylor.Girls, 1, Patsy Nugent; 2, Valerie Hatch; 3 SHERBROOKE DAILY RECORD, WEDNESDAY.JULY 18, 1956.Eileen Reid.Needle Race, 1, Allison and Arnold Nugent 2, Isabel Robinson and Lawrence Allan; 3, Charlotte Moore and Willard Wallace.Young Ladies Race: 1, Allison Nugent; 2, Phyllis Guy; 3, Gloria Wallace.Young Men s, l, S Lawrence Allan; 2, Lyle Cruickshank; 3, Arnold Nugent.The races were followed by a (peanut scramble for all the kiddies and scramble for candy kisses.As the rain commenced to pour down, all retired to the United Church Hall, where a picnic lunch was enjoyed, followed by a sing-song.WEST BROME- The Ladies Guild met with Mrs.Robert Edwards, the meeting being opened with prayer by the Rev.F.W.Gedye.With Mrs.Earle Marsh in the chair, plans were made to have a bazaar and afternoon tea on July 28th, from 3 to 5 p.m.The surprise parcel was won by Mrs.Hugh Salisbury.Lunch was served by the hostess, assisted by Mrs.Fred Edwards and Mrs.Galen Johnson.Miss Lillian Le Houquet, of Montreal, spent the week-end with Mrs.Alma Le Gallias.Mrs.Marjorie Draper, of Toronto, is also spending sometime with Mrs.Lc Gallias.Miss Muriel Sykes, of Montreal, spent a week with her mother, Mrs.Georgie Pettes.Mr.and Mrs.Spencer Shufelt and four sons, of Montreal, are spending a holiday here with Mrs.Vivian Shufelt.Mrs.Albert Gaber and two daughters, of Toronto, spent a few days with her parents, Mr.and Mrs.Reginald Parks.Miss Lesley Gilmour, Mr.and Mrs.La Parier, Mr.Fred Gilmour and family, and Jack Gilmour all of Montreal, were guests of Mr.and Mrs.Hugh Gilmour and daughter, Miss Lesley, on the occasion of Miss Gilmour\u2019s birthday.Master Scott Kathan, of La-ehine, is spending a week with his aunt and uncle, Mr.and Mrs.Casper Scott.Mrs.Florence King, of Toronto spent a few days with Mr.and Mrs.Edward Perry.Mrs.Lizzie Perry, of Stanbridge East, was also a guest at the Perry borne.Mrs.Earle Marsh and Master Robert McKee motored to Montreal, and were accompanied home by Mr.George Little, who spent a few days with them before returning to his home in Inverness.Mr.and Mrs.Joseph Bannister, of Montreal, spent the week end with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr.and Mrs.Galen Johnson, Mrs.Bannister remaining for the week.The ladies of the United Church were hostesses at a miscellaneous shower for Miss Dawn Murns.On entering the hall she was escorted to a chair and presented with a corsage of roses.After the gifts were opened, the bride-to-be thanked the gathering of about 65 for the lovely gifts.Refreshments were served with Mrs.Harold Murns, mother of the bride and Mrs.Murns, grand mother, of the bride, pouring tea.WEST SHEFFORD- The hospitable home of Mr.and Mrs.Ernest Dunlavey was the locale for a surprise birthday party for Mrs.Percy Ben-ham, when about 30 friends gathered to celebrate her 91st, birthday.In addition, cards, letters, gifts and flowers brought congratulations from far and near to this remarkable woman, who is young in heart and carrying on as usual.Mr.and Mrs.Myles Enright motored to Montreal when Mrs.Enright had a medical check up which proved most encouraging.Mr.Michael McMahon\u2019s friends regret that the recurrance of a leg ailment causes him to remain indoors.Messrs.Sherman and Fred Brunton, of the C.P.R.staff, spent the week-end with their parents, Mr.and Mrs.Harold R.Brunton.Miss Muriel Ball R.N., of Montreal, spent the week-end at the home of Mr.and Mrs.Ernest Doonan and Mr.R.J.Doonan.W.P.Lang, Miss Lang, Mrs.Solomon and their niece, Miss Florence Lang, have returned from a motor trip through New York State, visiting Niagara Fails en-route.Thetford Mines Army Detachment Back From Camp Thetford Mines \u2014 Recently a detachment of 54 army men from Thetford Mines spent a week at the R.C.E.Petawawa Summer Camp.Officer commanding the group was Major C.G.Bourne.Other officers were Major J.Leblanc, Padre; Major Paul Leclerc, Paymaster Lt.R.Dodds -Hebron, Lt.C.G.Harris and Lt.Leopold Poulin, Adjutant.It will be gratifying to residents of Thetford Mines to know that several local officers were singled out for special duties at the camp.Major Bourne was appointed officer commanding of a composite field squadron made up of all the engineer units from the province of Quebec.Highlight of this group's course was the building of a 160 foot American pattern pontoon bridge which would, and did, carry a 60 ton | centurion tank.It was the first time this particular exercise had ever been carried out in Cana da.Lt.Gordon Harris was put in charge of the senior N.C.O.qualification group for all of Petawawa Summer Camp, while Lt.Leopold Poulin was mi-de assistant adjutant of the camp.The units were visited by the senior Catholic Padre of Central 1 Command and as a result of this I visit.Major Leblanc, Thetford I Mines padre, was asked to be-!
