young, people have been telling me how witty and bright she is.They said she should he in the movies .“Well, I didn't think much about it until a couple of years ago.On an impulse, I called I Warner Brothers and asked for the casting department 1 i told the woman that I had a : child who was very bright and people said she should be in movies “If she had brushed me off, I never would have tried again.; But she said, ‘Can you be here ; in half an hour?' “They were looking for a girl for ‘Miracle of Our Lady of Fat ; ima.’ But Sandy was obviously loo young. When director Michael Curtiz told her so.she started crying. Then he told her that some day she wouldn’t be too young, and she smiled again.“An agent saw her and figured if she could turn it on and off like that, she ought to make an actress. He landed her a role in Walt Disney’s Christmas show, and she has been working ever ! since.” Eleven Movie Roles Since the Disney debut, Sandy has worked in 11 movies and ! most of the top TV film shows. After her role in “The Bad and the Beautiful,” MGM offered a contract. She signed with MGM and went into the important role as daughter of Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson in “The Last Time i Saw Paris.” Then she plaveri the understudy to love goddess Lana Turner in the Biblical epic.“The Prodigal.” A fourth grader and bright student, Sandy said she doesn’t feel lonely in the big MGM school. She goes home to Burbank each afternoon to play with the kids in her neighborhood.Jk IT* IN REMEMBRANCE — With the flag at half staff a Canadian soldier sounds ‘‘Last Post” beside the Canadian plot at Limtner Oinclery near Hannover, Germany.U'P photo from National Dcfencp) i units present, many accompanied by their wives, The weather being the very best with a full amount of sun I shine contributed largely to make Ibis a delightful outing to those Iron» a distance, and while it was a little late to view in their lull splendor the autumn foliage, the ! hills and valleys of this part of ilhe Eastern Townships presented n tapestry of peace and liar ! mony.An executive meeting of Region XIV was held in the morning followed by luncheon. The guest speaker was Orrin Kexiord, now retired, previous to which he was well and favourably known for Ins major contribution to education in this pro- vince.Taking as his subject, "Making A Community,” he related in dc tail some of the hardships ami difficulties experienced by those pioneers who laid the Imnulations ul community life in this section of the Eastern Townships more than one hundred and filly years ago. From the experiences of his own pioneer ancestors in the County of Itrome he gave an account of many incidents common to those days in comparison to life as we know it to May, draw mg attention lo the contribution made by these and succeeding generations. He was introduced by Doug Flewelling and thanked hv I Glen Brown. In the afternoon (lie ladies were conducted by motor lo variions points of interest, through the lammis Bolton Pass and lo I Spring Valley Ranch, where a* Icrmmn tea was served, then harW I to Knowlton Between 3.30 and 5 a discussion group was held on leader ship training under the chair-manship of Ken.Caulkin.As a isubject, a case history was lakeii in Which a social committee tiarl made arrangements for a dinner dance. Many of those present participated in the discussion, diinnit : which an analysis was made ol Continued on Page 4 the Soviet: guards slam the doors against you in the cattle car to | take you off to concentration camp, as it did happen to many in Estonia or Poland, it will be too late,” JUNIOR CHAMBER EXECUTIVE: The District XIV Junior Chamber of Commerce executive taken at the district meeting in Knowlton is shown above.Knowlton Scene Of Junior Chamber 01 Commerce District Gathering Knowlton, Nov.11.— The fall at the Knowlton Inn with mcm-eonference of Region XIV Junior tiers from Montreal, Pointe Chambers of Commerce was held i Claire, Mount Royal and other Be Modern,, In “The Fall of a Titan,” a granted. He still hopes the Cana-iOO.OOO-word novel based on in- dian and United States govern-trigue in the Communist hierar- ment will put into effect the plan chy of post-revolutionary Russia, he broached a year ago to cause the various drafts amounted to further defections among Soviet 2 000,000 words. agents by offering them protec- The Gouzenkos live some-.tion and security, where in Canada, shielded from ' “To preserve freedom all of us possible Communist vengeance must take active part in its de-bv false names and nationalities ' fence,” he told a reporter.“When EASY SHAVING includes Gillette Dispenser sleres used blades Handy Styrin* Travel Cat* Gillette ONE-PIECE RAZOR • Here’* the modern razor that takes all the fuss out of shaving!
