The bodies of two crew members from the United States Navy reconnaissance plane shot down by North Korea have been found in the Sea of Japan and there are grave doubts that any of the 29 other crew members survived, the U.S.defence department said today.“We regret to report that the destroyer USS Tucker has recovered the bodies of one officer and one enlisted crew member from the EC-121 downed over the Sea of Japan,” a statement said.“We are now gravely concerned about the chances of finding any survivors. The search is being continued. The Tucker recovered the bodies about 17 miles north of the site where the first signs of wreckage from the plane, a four-engine propeller-driven converted Super Constellation, were spotted about 120 miles southeast of the North Korean coast, the department reported. In addition to the bodies, the destroyer recovered life jackets and pieces of fuselage bearing shrapnel holes, the statement stated.A wide search for the plane and its 31-man crew has been under way since the plane was reported missing Monday after North Korea said it had downed News the aircraft for allegedly violating its territory. The bodies were clothed in flying suits but were not wearing life jackets.Japan's Kyodo news service reported.Kyodo, which did not give its source, also said the bodies were picked up by the U.S.destroyer Tucker.WAIT FOR COMMENT The recovery of the bodies came as the world waited for President Nixon to break the public silence he instituted after North Korea said it destroyed the plane.Quebec must act fast on a proposed park GASPE, Que.(CP) — Jean Chretien, federal minister of Indian affairs and northern development, Wednesday called on the Quebec government to quickly accept or reject a proposed national park in the Gaspi.i agi on of the province.Mr.Chretien told members of the Gaspe chamber of commerce he had sent a letter to Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand in connection with the park planned for Forillon, about 400 miles northeast of Quebec City. The 87-square-miles of park would require, during the next five years, an investment of about $9.000.000.The federal government would contribute more than $8,000.000.Canada has 19 national parks, none of which are in Quebec. The project was part of a $258,000,000 agreement signed by Ottawa and Quebec last May and was designed to boost the economy of eastern Quebec. But, to establish a park, the law requires that a province permanently relinquish its land to the federal government.Quebec has offered to turn over the area for 15 to 20 years.Ottawa says it will agree to a 99-year lease.Officials indicated Wednesday the president was expected to issue some sort of protest to North Korea, and there has been no evidence of a charge. But no decision had been reported about how this would be done.Among the choices the administration is understood to have considered was a public statement expressing the United States’ protest. The American position also could be made known at the Korean truce site at Panmunjom, if a meeting requested for late tonight by North Korea is held.Although North Korea gave no reason for seeking a Panmunjom meeting, the proposal came shortly after the broadcasting claiming destruction of the U.S.plane and it was assumed Pyongyang would protest the alleged violation of its territory. In any event, Nixon is certain to discuss the incident at a Friday morning news conference, to be broadcast live by television and radio networks.Nixon’s silence was pictured by officials as reflecting the decision he made after being notified of the North Korean claim to say nothing until all the facts were known about the loss of the EC-121.The U.S.defence department has denied that the plane, a Super Constellation modified for electronic surveillance, flew over North Korea.in Pro federalism MONTREAL (CP) - The provincial Chambre de Commerce, in a report now published in book form and entitled Quebec, the Price of Independence, says federalism still offers the best opportunities for the people of Quebec. The study by a team of experts concludes that Rene Levesque’s sovereignty-association formula has little chance of being realized in association with the rest of Canada.Knives, sprays YPSILANTI, Mich (AP) — Frightened co-eds at two universities have armed themselves with switchblade knives, tear-gas sprays or other protective devices while authorities investigate the killings of five girls. The latest victim—who also was the youngest—was 13-year-old Dawn Basopi, a junior high school student in Ypsilanti. Not advised OTTAWA (CP) - Roses are red, violets are blue.Always.On Panasonic color TV Life-like color—that's what you buy color TV for.And that's why Panasonic goes to great lengths to make sure you get it.For a start, we eliminate a lot of dial twiddling with an exclusive Exact-O-Vision tuning bar so you don't have to be an engineer to fine tune our 16" Pennington.A keyed AGC system, which sounds very complex but works very simply, goes in every set to keep color pictures pure, steady and sharp. And because overheating can affect color fidelity, we eliminate a lot of tubes that can burn-up and burn-out with solid state engineering that, by comparison, runs cool as a cucumber.Another example of how we play tilings your way: we design, engineer and manufacture all our own components. This way we remove all the headaches that used to give you second thoughts about color TV.So what are you waiting for? We've got a great choice of popularsized portables plus a particularly handsome 19" consolette with walnut cabinetry.Best of all, no matter which Panasonic color set you buy, roses are red, violets are blue.Always.PANASONIC plays things your way 13" CT 21 PC The Brighton 16" CT 62PC The Yorklown record on home ice, have been the overwhelming favorites to win the series, and most probably, in five games.BOSTON (CP I - Nobody has come up with a cure for the common cold, but Phil Esposito is hoping his current crop of cmffips is an indication that he’s about to shake what ails him.And what ails the record-breaking centre for Boston Bruins is an overdose of Ralph Backstrom, tenacious-checking centre for Montreal Canadiens.Montreal carries its two-game lead in the best-of-seven Stanley Cup semi-final into the third game tonight at Boston Garden The fourth game is scheduled for 2 p m.EST Sunday.Esposito, between sneezes, recalled Wednesday that his most productive nights have been those when he has been plagued by a cold It might be good for Esposito but not League, played eight games with the Bruins late in the regular season and scored three goals, assisting on three others There were no such problems with the Canadiens when they checked in here late Wednesday Coach Claude Ruel declared all hands fit and ready.Ruel said his players were stung by repeated reports from Sinden that Montreal had won its last hockey game for this season Esposito made hockey history this season by counting a record 126 points on 49 goals and 77 assists during the 76-game schedule He also had a field day in Boston's first playoff round against Toronto Maple Leafs with six goals and four assists as the Bruins triumphed in four straight games while Montreal was giving New York Rangers the same treatment However, Esposito's scoring rampage came to an abrupt halt against Montreal as Ruel sent Backstrom, in his llth season with the Canadiens, out to stop Esposito. The result was the Boston centre didn't get a point in two games.HAVE FAN SUPPORT In addition to Esposito's cold, the Bruins have the home ice advantage and the assistance of ?Ted Harris seldom gets limelight but gets job done for Canadiens MONTREAL (CP) - When big No.10 for Montreal Canadiens skates onto the ice at Boston Garden tonight, chances are he'll draw more attention from the Boston crowd than he does in his home rink But this is nothing new in the quiet career of defenceman Ted Harris, who long ago resigned himself to letting other athletes grab the limelight while he went about getting the job done.Canadiens currently lead the Bruins 2-0 in their best-of-seven Stanley Cup semi-final on the strength of 3-2 and 4-3 overtime victories here last Thursday and Sunday. The Montrealers held a full-scale scrimmage Wednesday morning in preparation for tonight’s game. They flew to Boston Wednesday night.Tonight’s game will be televised nationally by theCBC.Harris, a 32-year-old native of Winnipeg, is in his fifth full season with the Canadiens.Montreal club officials agree he only has realized his full potential in the last two seasons SEEMED DOOMED Prior to coming to Canadiens the six-foot, two-inch Harris appeared doomed to an unspectacular career in hockey’s minor leagues.Even in his formative seasons with Canadiens the 185-pounder always appeared to play behind the more colorful types who were intent on the spectacular rushes and smart checks rather than the stiff body checks thrown by the old-time blue line bashers.Harris admits he’s a throwback to the defence work portrayed in earlier years and he had a good teacher. The phlegmatic defenceman received his schooling from tough Eddie Shore at Springfield in the American Hockey League when Shore was general manager, owner, coach and jack-of-all-trades there.Harris, along with John Ferguson and defenceman Terry Harper, is considered a Montreal policeman. In the last season, he had three clashes with Bruins’ idol Bobby Orr, including one in the last game of the season in Boston As a result he has become less than popular in Boston Garden.Much of this season’s bashing was left to Harris because of the prolonged forced layoff to Harper with a knee injury.Harris was one of three members of the Montreal club to play a full 76 games in this season’s regular schedule and has appeared in all six playoff games to date.During the regular season he scored seven goals and assisted in 18 others, his best output since joining Canadiens He has never scored a goal in NHL playoff competition, but has one assist so far this season. While with Cleveland Barons of the AHL for the 1963-64 season, Harris won the Eddie Shore award as the best defenceman in that league.Coach Claude Ruel sums up his defenceman's accomplishments like this: “Ted didn’t miss a game this season and he works and gives his best all the time.Anybody who works that way gets success." Ruel said his club was in good spirits after its Wednesday workout and will take on the Bruins unhampered by any serious injury.wmsm .a UP FOR A COMEBACK — World record holder Valery Brume! clears 6 feet iVa inches in an exhibition high jump in Moscow after Kelly told his players, “you don’t get out of your end of the rink.“And if you don’t get into their zone, how do you expect to score goals? We looked as if we were playing on cement.” The Kings and Blues meet here tonight in the second game of the best-of-seven series.Goals have been a problem for the Kings all season. They averaged a goal a game in eight meetings with the Blues and were blanked three times.Kelly wants his players to concentrate on the fundamentals—skating, checking and shooting. He believes that if they do, goals will take care of
