Fourth Cub Pack Dedicated by Rev.Dr.W.S.Lennon at Trinity Church Ceremony Yesterday Morning.A large congregation, of which the Canadian Boy Scouts and Wolf Cubs of the city and its vicinity formed a large part, gathered in Trinity United Church yesterday morning, and listened to a sermon addressed to the boys on the subject, “Ready, Steady, Heady”.Rev.Dr.Lennon first related his subject to the Scripture by quoting a number of passages _ emphasizing each part of the subject, and then, in the course of his remarks, pointed out that the three things implied in his subject, namely preparedness for life, reliability, or dependableness, and thoughtfulness were all deeply imbedded in the ideals of the Scout movement. After the sermon, a Wolf Cub flag, presented to the Fourth Pack of YVolf Cubs by the Mothers’ Auxiliary of the Pack, was dedicated to the Pack’s use in a brief ceremony conducted by Dr.Lennon at the request of its oflicers. The special music of the service included a very fine violin solo by Miss Frederica Bradley, and the singing by the choir of the anthem, “The Roseate Hues of Early Dawn”.Owing to the fact that the International Sunday School lesson yesterday dealt with Mary, the mother of Jesus as an example of noble motherhood, the session of the Sunday School took on a Mother’s Day cast, all the hymns used being hymns of praise for motherhood’s ministries of love. The Brotherhood met as usual also at 2.30 p.m.In the evening, the subject of the sermon was “Is God Jealous of Our Human Progress?”.Dr.Lennon, in treating it, made his message a rebuttal of the idea that such tragedies as the loss of the R-101 are to be interpreted as indicating a Divine displeasure at men’s efforts to master nature. In the course of his remarks he pointed out that man’s ideas of God have changed even as set forth in the Scriptures, for the God who bars the way to the tree of life with chérubin and a flaring sword in the Book of Genesis, becomes in the New Testament, after Christ has re-revealed Him, the God whose “free gift” is “eternal life”, and the God who incites men to ask that they may receive, to seek that they may find, and to knock that it may be opened to them. The R-101 disaster, if it be remembered that God is always and everywhere the same, does not indicate Heaven’s effort to hinder human mastery of the air, but is only a sad indication of the fact that man has as yet missed discovering some principle of physics necessary to give him the mastery he seeks. But the principle needed is discoverable, and will one day be lighted upon.Any other view of God and of things would compel us to accept the idea that God has been baffled by man’s ingenuities, for calamities and tragedies incident to man’s efforts to gain mastery of his world have never stopped him in his adventures into the unknown, and in his determination to bend the forces of nature to his uses, and in spite of them he has ceaselessly made progress. The choir’s evening anthem was “Lord, For Thy Tender Mercy’s Sake”.LENNOXVILLE ST.GEORGE’S CHURCH HOLD HARVEST HOME SERVICES The annual harvest home ser-1 vice was held in St.George’s! Church yesterday, when special ! music was used and a special sermon was preached by Dean Crowfoot, [ Dean of the Cathedral of Quebec.J Dean Crowfoot announced as his text “The Harvest,” and gave as his subect, “YVork.” Work, he said, was one of the greatest causes of thanksgiving in the world, giving as his authority, Christ. Not labor,’ toil or drudgery, but work, not for “the meat which perisheth,’’ but for the indestructible riches of the soul, was the command of Christ.God wants no loafers, no slackers, but creative and co-operative workers, who look upon work not merely as toil, but as a blessing, the speaker said.Work in the Old Testament was a punishment, but in the New Testament was something very different, a c-operation with God for the development of the human family, and no matter how humble it might be it may still be doing the will of God.The congregation was urged to dedication of all its powers to the service of God.The choir rendered the anthem “I Will Magnify Thee, O God,” (Churchill), Mr.Lee YVatson taking the solos. The church was decorated with autumn leaves, and prominent in the decorative scheme was a plough laden with fruits of the harvest.BIRTHS, MARRIAGES^DEATHS BIRTHS McELREA.— At Huntingville on Oct.11th, 1930, a son, to Mr.and Mrs.Donald McEirea, (nee Helen A.McLeod).DEATHS
