the work of the World Economic Conference, the dominions and’the United Kingdom have from the outset been negotiating and planning. There is no thought of anything in the nature of undermining the work of the Conference in the international field, but it is felt the presence of so many Empire representatives in London offers an unrivalled opportunity for further Empire discussions which were contemplated when the Ottawa agreements were concluded. The efforts have been particularly directed, it is understood, to j three objectives.First, co-crdina-tion of production and marketing; secondly, co-operation in banking with eventual Empire currency stabilization, and, lastly, a freer movement of capital within the British Commonwealth. As the first session of the World Conference closes on July 27, only a fortnight’s interval is left, for the dominions’ delegations will be leaving London then. The time is scarcely sufficient to do more than lay the general groundwork of further schemes of Empire trade. But the way is being prepared.Despite the coming adjornment, the United Kingdom and the dominions alike are hopeful of effective accomplishment. To that end they are making every effort.Should the Conference fail to realize the hopes of the early optimists, however, so far as the dominions are concerned there will be an additional impetus to move for Empire trade. It is felt in this regard the British Colonial Empire offer an opportunity for developments and for markets which has not yet been fully explored.Ottawa, July 14.—Exports of Canadian produce during June reached a value of $45,-967,773, a substantial increase over June, 1932, Vhen the value was $40,852,100.There was a heavy drop in imports, the value of June last being $33,612,541 as compared with $40,743,105, in June, 1932.Exports for the three months ended with June last also showed an increase, the total being $111,555,762 as compared with $108,256,350 during the corresponding three months last year.DOMINIONS FAVOR WORLD SCHEME FOR RAISING COMMODITY PRICES EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY IN TAKE-OFF AT SHEDIAC VICTIMS’ FAMILIES HAVE FAILED JURISDICTION BETTER TRADE TO DATE TO CONTACT ABDUCTORS ARGUED BEFORE ' IN TARIFF BOARD! LATEST REPORT Shediac, N.B., July 14.—Heading against a southwest wind, Italy’s Chicago-bound squardron of twenty-four seaplanes took off today for Montreal, their second hop in two days.General Italo Balbo was in the lead as the big boats started lifting from land-locked Shediac Bay at 8.54 a.m., eastern standard time. The last triad required considerable time to drift to a favorable take-off position, and it was almost an hoar later before all twenty-four planes were in the air.The airmen intended to strike a course across northern Maine and Megantic, Que., thence proceeding direct to Montreal. This route is mostly overland, but large lakes are in position for emergency landings.Under favorable conditions, the flight would require between three and four hours, but head winds may lengthen the flying time.“We’ll be back in two weeks,” were General Balbo’s final words as he stepped into the motor boat that carried him and General Aide Pellegrini out to the planes. They will continue from Montreal to the World Fair at Chicago, making the return trip to Italy, via New York and Shediac, as quickly as possible. The return route 'rill be southerly, probably via the Azores. All the Italian airmen arose bright and early today. For hours before General Balbo came down to the wharf his men were busy overhauling the planes. For the second time in its history Shediac heard a Fascist cheer given today by the General and other officers as they pulled away from the wharf after the crowd shouted farewell. At the reception yesterday afternoon following the fleet’s arrival from Cartwright, Labrador, the General and others had replied to the greeting with their Fascist cheer, peculiar to Canadian ears. Thanks for the reception here Families of John J.O’Connell and August Luer Endeavoring to Negotiate Directly with Kidnappers without Police ______ Interference—John Factor Rerovering from Strain of Challenge Power of Tariff Com- Increased Twelve Days’ Custody by Kidnappers to Whom He mission to Deal with Problems Paid $50,000 for His Release.R SEEKING PACT WITH SMALLER elatives of John J.O’Connell, & Jr., kidnapped a week ago | from his home in Albany, !
