Brunet May Enter Field— Former Said To Have Been Promised Liberal Nomination-Latter Will Run as Labor Candidate.Coaticook, August 16.—(Special)— There has been some talk here to the effect that Htanstead County might have a three cornered fight. In fact a four cornered one has not been thought out of the cpuestion.First there are the candidates nominated at tlie party conventions, Mr.C.H.Lovell, ex-M.P.for the Liberals, and Mr.Geo.W.Paige for the Conservatives. Then there lias been a rumor in the air that Mr.A.C.Hanson is not satisfied. It appears that some of his friends claim that there was an understanding in the past that Mr.Lovell should retire in his favor at this time.Mr.Lovell apparently does not recognize any such understanding, for he is in the field again. There is no doubt that there has been some canvassing done ¦for Mr.Hanson with a view of bringing him into the field. It is not generally thought, however, that he will consent to run. Then there is the so-called labor candidate, Contractor Brunet, of Monti cal.Mr.Brunet owns a farm in the County, and it is said is willing to come out as a labor candidate if he can get Some encouragement. There has been a man here feeling over the ground on his behalf, but it is doubtful if be got much encouragement. In the meantime Mr.Lovell is sawing wood and proceeding along his way as unconcerned as if there was no prospect of having to face ^three opponents.CONSERVATIVES OF BROME COUNTY MEET TO-DAY.Waterloo, Aug.16.—(Special)—Conservative delegates from all over Shefioni county are gathering given by Hon.S.A.Fisher here some wc.eks ago.held at Valleyfield yesterday.Only one name was pi c posed for the candidature, that of Mr.J.H.G.Berger-ou, and it met with unanimous approval.MASS MEETING DENIES RUMORS.Guelph, Ont., Aug.IG.—Mr.Hugh Guthrie, when asked as to the statement which appeared in the Guelph Herald that it was rumored that if he did not secure the appointment he would retire from politics and devote his time and energies to his law practice, Mr.Guthrie most emphatically denied, the truth of it.“If the Liberals ask me to be their candidate at the convention on changed into a nomination meeting, and the.selection went unanimously to Mr.J.H.R.Rainville, advocate of Montreal.WANT HON.MR.OUIMET.Sorel, Que., August 16.—Ex-Judge Ouimet, of Montreal, was
