COMPETITION.Macdonald College, at Ste.Anne de Bellevue, won a striking victory over all other American and Canadian agricultural colleges in the stock judging contest at the United States Stock Yards in Chicago on Satur day. This is the annual competition engaged in by representatives of agricultural colleges in judging cat tie, which forms a part of their training. There were entries from all the leading colleges of the United States and a number from Canada. They were easily the winners and were awarded the trophy.Macdonald College was represented at the judging competition held at the Sherbrooke Fair last year.It is interesting to note that the judging competitions such as mentioned above were first inaugurated in the Province of Quebec, and is steadily becoming an important feature with farmers’ ons.It will be noticed that since the competition was started here, that several of the other fairs in the province have also put aside a certain appropriation for prizes in this connection.GET 40 PER CENT.OF $.',000 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD.A further despatch from Chicago says : “The five boy team of Macdonald College, Quebec, was declared the most efficient, and to this KNOWLTON.Knowlton, Dec."i.—(Special),— The recital under the auspices of the Young Ladies’ Circle of the Methodist Church, held in the Pettes'Memorial Hall on Saturday evening was an unqualified success, and a most enjoyable affair.Although handicapped by uncertain weather, the attendance was fair ly large. The programme was well arranged, each number received con-mendation by the audience, and the encores were gracefully given.Every one who'has- beea 'fortunate to hear Miss Bradford in her Church solos has enthusiastically praised her beautiful voice, and on Saturday evening she simply captivated her hearers. She has a magnificient voice sweet and mellow with periect control and no apparent effort in its rendition.Tbs encore which she gave to her last number displayed her voice ad-mi rahly- Miss Doherty, elocutionist, contribu-teù largely to the evening's entertain, ment, and her reception was but an earnest of the deep appreciation of those present. Her personality is one that impresses itself on her hearers. The monologue, “After the Ball,’ was most striking, and caused a good deal of laughter. The last number of the programme, a sketch en titled “The happy pair,’’ produced by Miss Doherty, and Mr.King was undoubtedly splendid, and was great ly enjoyed.Much can be said too of Mr.King’s ability as an elocutionist. His diction in “Aux Italiens” was perfect One who helped to make the evening’s entertainment a success was Mrs.Fay, violinist who is always welcome from the first number to the last and each time she is listened tiieded to with greater appreciation than before. On Saturday night she showed great capibiiity and skill. Her techingue is admirable, and her selections were well calculated to give them the prominence they deserve. The nearty encores she respon-df-d to were well deserved. The following was the programme; Instrumental solo, Mrs.Fay, Recitation “A Kill’s Composition on
