[" Sherbrooke E^Hblished 189' Dally Record SHERBROOKE, QUE., TUESDAY, AUGUST 26, 1919.PRICE TWO CENTS SIR ARTHUR CURRIE ARRIVES TODAY SHERBROOKE WELCOMES THE GREAT CANADIAN SOLDIER HERE TODAY General Sir Arthur Currie, Commander-in-Chief of Canadian Forces in the Field, was Met at the C.P.R.Station Shortly After Noon Today by a Distinguished Military and Civilian Representation\u2014Was Guest of Exhibition Association at Luncheon, which was Followed by Inspection of Troops \u2014City en Fete for Entertainment of Distinguished Visitor.WITH the entire city out en fete to honor his arrival, Lieut.-General Sir Arthur Currie, K.C.B., G.C.B., C.M.G, Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Armies in the field during the Great War, set foot in Sherbrooke a few minutes after noon today, and amid cheers and waving of flags, led a parade of veterans through Sherbrooke streets, out to the grounds of the Great Eastern Exhibition, where hes is the guest of honor today.General Currie\u2019s party, including General Sir Frederick Loomis, K.C.M.; General D.C.Draper, C3I.G., D.S.O.; Genera! Smart, General MacDonald, and a number of other officers, was met at the C.P.R.station by Mayor Charles D.White, K.C., Mr.E.Winn Farwel!, President of the Exhibition Association, and a large delegation from the Great War Veterans\u2019 Association.Mayor White delivered an address, on behalf of the city, welcoming the distinguished visitor to Sherbrooke and touching cn the immortal work of the Canadian lads overseas, when they were led by General Currie.Following the reception at the station, the party, escorted by the G.W.V.A., marched towards the Exhibition Grounds, by way of Queen Street, I Melbourne, Dufferin Avenue and King Street, and General Currie, with the ! other officers was entertained at luncheon by the directors and officials of the Exhibition.A number of addresses were made and responded to, and the \\ luncheon was followed by a general inspection of the war veterans in front | of the grand stand, the great soldier taking the salute as the ranks marched by.This afternoon, General Currie is on a tour of the city and surrounding district, and is paying a visit to Lennoxville, to see the new school there.Throughout the day he is the guest of the Exhibition authorities.£ DISCUSSED TREATY ;
