[" Sherbrooke Dally Record.Established 1897 SHEEBKOOKE, QUE TUESDAY OCTOBER 29 1912.ONE CENT MONTENEGRIN TROOPS RAVE CUT OFF TURRISH SUPPLIES WILFRED IN THE CITV Turkey Must Accept Battle Near River Erkene-Possibility of 60,000 TO ÂÎÎBBd McCrBQ BODQllBt Troops Being Cut of From Retreat and Full of Adrianopie- Con* stantinople Report Says Town of Servia Captured by Bul= gurians, is Again Occupied by OtEmau Troops.Vienna, Austria, October 29.—(Special)—The Montenegrin troops have cut oft supplies from the Turkish forces in Scutari, where provisions are scarce already, according to Reich-shosts from Scutari, by way of Ales-sio.The Montenegrins occupy the heights of Busate, Rogame and Castani, all of which overlook Scutari, and they have entrenched, themselves, with a strong force of artillery.Malissori tribesmen again attacked the Turks east of Scutari on Friday, but were repulsed after hours’ fighting.The Turkish commander at Scutari is trying to induce the Mirdite tribesmen to attack the Montenegrin troops from the south so that the road to the port of Alejsio could be used as a line of retreat for the Turkish army in case of necessity.GREEKS CAPTURE FORTRESS.Athens, October 29.—(Special)—The strong Turkish fortress of Verria has been placed absolutely at the of the invading Greek army, which has captured Tripotalos Defiles, forming a key to the situation.The capture of the town of Verria itself is only a question of hours.The whole of the Turkish army around Monastir will be cut off when Verria falls, and will be unable to communicate either with Salonika or Constantinople.Verria lies to the north of the town of Servia on the way to Saloniki, to which pity the railroad runs.dated Turkish Headquarters at Tch-orlu, Octaber 25, saying : “Abruliah Pasha’s camp is here.His army lies in a line from Rule Burgas to Bunar-hissar, and a decisive battle is expected within a week.” TROOPS GARRISONING ADRIAN-OPLE WEAKENED IN SPIRIT BY HEAVY LOSSES.Vienna, October 29.—The bridge acrots the Tchorlu river was blown up by the Bulgarians Sunday, thus interrupting communication between Rule Burgas and Constantinople, according to a despatch from the correspondent of the Reichspost, with the headquarters of the Second Bulgarian army.The correspondent adds that the Bulgarians are making steady progress against the Turkish field army.The strength of the Turkish troops around Adrianopie is estimated at four army corps and it is said that 150,000 men fought near Kirk-Klisseh.Part of the Turkish troops garrisoning Adrianopie managed to retreat to Demotica, 25 miles to the south.The rest of the garrison is already cut off and demoralized by heavy losses.During the last sortie by the mercy | Turkish troops one regiment surrendered to the Bulgarians.A despatch to the same paper from Scutari says a Montenegrin flying corps has cut the Turkish communications between Scutari and St.Giovanni di Modua on the coast.WHEREABOUTS OF TURKISH ARMY.TOWN OF SERVIA RE-OCCUPIED.Constantinople, October 29.—(Special—The Turkish town of Servia, recently captured by the Greek army, is reported to have been re-occupied by Ottoman troops, according to telegrams from Saloniki published innewspapers here.Bulgarian bands have destroyed the lighthouse at the Turkish seaport of Iniada, on Black Sea coast, 75 miles from Adrianopie.FALL OF ADRIANOPLE IS IMMINENT.Lieut.Wegener, the only war correspondent thus far allowed at the front, sends the following despatch to the Vienna Reichspost : With the headquarters of the Second Bulgarian Army at the Front, Sunday, October 27, 10 p.m.The concerted action of the Bulgarinas against the Turkish Eastern army makes steady progress, despite the unfavorable weather.The Turks retreat on Constantinople is already cut off.The railway from Constantinople to Lule-Burgas has been broken at Tcherkesskeui, only twelve, miles northeast of Tchorlu, the Turkish headquarters, and fifty miles from Constantinople, and the railway bridge there over the Tchorlu river has been blown up.The Turkish army has no other means of avoiding being totally surrounded than by accepting battle on the line of the River Erkene.This will he the Turks’ last fight.The strength of the Turkish forces in the region from Eski-Balba to Lule-Burgas is estimated at four army corps.About 150,000 men altogether are reported to have taken part in the battle of Kirk-Kilisseh, the greater Part of whom, however, began to retreat on the night of October 23., while one division and a half, by defending the positions at Kirk-Kilisseh covered the retreat.On the heights of Jundala the rear guard of the defenders of Kirk-Kilisseh made a desperate resistance.The Turks were dispersed in all directions and the greater number of them were cut off.The prisoners say that the Turkish army is greatly demoralized and that the officers are the first to throw up the sponge.The trophies taken by the Bulgarians at Kirk-Kilisseh include a diam-end-studdcd sword of honor, presented to Mukhtar Pasha, the Turkish commender, by the Sultan.The fall of Adrianopie is imminent.Some of the troops stationed there may be able to retire along the Marit-za River to Demotika, but the rest of the garrison, 60,000 men, are already cut off from retreat.The terrible losses suffered by the Turks in their recent sortie from Adrianopie to the Northeast demoralized the Sultan’s troops, and one entire regiment laid down their arms without resistance.FALL OF SCUTARI IS IMMINENT.This Evening.=3= London, October 29.—A despatch from Rome to the Post says that the Montenegrin flag flies at the summit of Tarabosch and that the fall of Scutari is imminent.This is not confirmed from other sources.A Cettinje despatch to the Standard of current date says that the commander at Scutari returned no answer ta the summons to surrender and that the Montenegrins are bombarding Tarabosch.The Express publishes a despatch, London, October 29.—An interesting question at the present moment is the whereabouts of the Turkish army, of which nothing definite is known.The news that Eski Baba has been taken by the Bulgarian cavalry apparently without resistance shows that Nazim Pasha’s army is not where it was supposed to have been— on the line between Kuleli Burgas to Rule Burgas.It may be further west in the direction of Demotica, but it is generally supposed that it has retired from the line of the railway and entrenched itself on the long line from Demotica of Torhorlu.Constantinople despatches continue to speak of the readiness of the Turkish army to take the offensive.In any case a few days must see something decisive.The victorious Bulgarian army is still advancing.It has occupied Bu-narhissar, and is marching toward Kuleli Burgas.It is reported that the Bulgarians have blown up a bridge over the Tohorlu River, showing that the turning movement is making rapid progress.Unless the Turks are able to take the offensive vigorously, the present indication is that they will be driven out of Europe altogether, failing interference by the powers at the present stage to end the war.as happened in the Russian campaigns against Turkey in 1828 and 1878, when Russia had captured Adrianopie and was at the gates of Constantinople.ENVELOPING MOVEMENT WHICH WOULD ISOLATE ADBUULAH PASHA’S ARMY.London, October 29.—The town of Bunarhissar, says a Sofia despatch to the Times, will form a point in the outer line of Bulgarian positions surrounding Adrianopie, which will be drawn through Demotica and Ortakoi —an enveloping movement which would isolate Adbullah Pasha’s army or compel it to retreat to the -westward.Meanwhile, the Rhodope army, under Geoeral Kovatcheff, advancing by way of Nevropop down the valley of the River Mesta Karusu.will approach the railway line further west.A third army is reported to have reached Istip, although this is not officially confirmed, and is expected to join the Servian army and advance towards Monastir.An important decision remains to be taken regarding Adrianopie.The troops investing the town are en-encountering great difficulties owing to the surrounding country be ng inundated by the rivers Maritza, Tun-dja and Arda, as a result of heavy rains.The floods also impede the military movements of the Turks and their transport of provisions into the town.Further developments largely depend on Adbullah’s plans, and a pitched battle seems in prospect.But the general movements of the Turks have already been n -uch hampered by repulses on the right wing.The Bulgarians have to decide whether in view of the effect produced on their own troops and on the Turks by the fall of Kirk-Kilisseh the psychological moment has not arrived to attempt to storm the fortress.In the opinion of some of the for-eigh military experts Adrianopie may be found as vulnerable as Kirk-Kilisseh, inasmuch as the fortifications, though laid out by German officers, were constructed by Turkish contractors and may prove of doubtful solidity for resisting artillery fire.IS ACCOMPANIED BY' HON.RODOLPHE LEMIEUX, HON.S.A.FISHER AND HON.MACKENZIE KING.Right Hon.Sir Wilfrid Laurier arrived in the city at noon to-day, to attend the complimentary banquet to j Cookshire should be educated to it, and a part of each week should he taken by the teachers to instruct the pupils in this work and to include birds as well as animals.Mr.H.S.McDowell donated a *5 gold piece to the pupil in Brome County who wrote the best essay on animals, kindness and best method of treatment.Mr.McDowell also spoke of the cruelty of some of the boys driving their cows to and from the pasture.A second prize of $3 is awarded by the Society.This essav, which is open to the pupils of the Schools of the County, must be finished by February.In speaking of birds Mr.Innés said this came under the Fish and Game Association and that 117 men were brought before the Society and 57 guns confiscated.These men were nearly all foreigners, having been accustomed to shooting birds in their own country.Mr.Truell, another member of the Montreal Society, was present and expressed himself as greatly surprised with the work this Society was doing and suggested that more funds should be raised and that the Inspector be well paid for his services.OFFICERS ELECTED.The following officers were elected: President, Mr.R.E.Miller, Brome.Vice-President, Mrs.J.E.Fay.Secretary, Mrs.H.E.Chandler.Executive Committee—Mrs.J.E.Fay, W.' that man has his work in the world, woman hers, and that whatever tends to cause a stepping of one sex into the sphere of the NEW MINISTERS TO WORN IN Hod.Mr.Codsrre Will be New Secretary of State HON.ROBERT ROGERS WILL TAKE UP THE PUBLIC WORKS’ DEPART- MENT.Ottawa, October 29.—As announced previously, Louis Coderre, M.P.for Hochelaga, will be the new minister from Quebec.He will be secretary of state.Hon.Robert Rogers will take Mr.Monk's portfolio, public works, while Hon.Dr.Roche will succeed Mr.Rogers as minister of the interior.The Governor-General will swear in the new ministers to-day.Mr.Coderre will have to seek re-election and the bye-election will be held at once.The western ministers do not need to seek re-election.! —.*- FIRST SNOW STORM IN WEST.Winnipeg, Vino., Oct.29.—Thanksgiving Day was notable in Manitoba for the first serious snowstorm of the son, and which is likely to delay any threshing operations to finish off the crops.Up to midnight two inches had fallen at Winnipeg and outside points three or more, with a likelihood of more, as a blizzard looked very likely.forest Corn Removed Without Pain, Quickly No wonder Putnam’s Painless Corn Extractor sells so well.You see it is different from any other remedy you have ever used.Does not merely relieve the pain temporarily, but is guaranteed to remove the meanest, sorest eorn or callous no matter how long it has bothered you.Get a 25c.bottle of "Pnt-narn's” to-day and prove it.The name tells the story—Putnam's Painless Corn and Wart Extractor, which is sold by druggists.How to Make Better Cough Syrup than You Can Buy A Family Supply, Saving: $2 and Fully Guaranteed.Sixteen ounces of cough syrup — as much as you could buy (or ÎZ.50—can easily be made at home.You will find nothing that takes hold of an obstinate cough more quickly, usually ending it Inside of 24 hours.Excellent, too, for croup, whooping cough, sore lungs, asthma, hoarseness and other throat troubles.Mix two cups of granulated sugar with one cup of warm water, and stir for two minutes.Put 2Y2 ounces of PInex (fifty cents’ worth) in a 16-ounce bottle, then add the Sugar Syrup.It keeps perfectly.Take a teaspoonful every one, two or three hours.This is Just laxative enough to help cure a cough.Also stimulates the appetite, which is usually upset by a cough.The taste is pleasant.The effect of pine and sugar syrup on the Inflamed membranes is well known.PInex is the most valuable concentrated compound of Norway white pine extract, rich in gualacol and all the natural healing pine elements.Other preparations will not work in this formula.The PInex and Sugar Syrup recipe is now used by thousands of housewives throughout the United States and Canada.The plan has been imitated, but the old successful formula has never been equaled.A guaranty of absolute satisfaction or money promptly refunded, goes with this recipe.Your druggist has I’lncx, or will get it for you.If not, send to The PInex Co.Toronto, Ont.Robes for Automobile, Carriage and Motor Boat At Reduced Prices Call and See Our Line Sangster’s Garage 9 Albert St. Phone 431 PACKED IN ONE AND TWO POUND CANS ONLY See the Eosenbloon: window display of‘ DENT’S” gloves—The largest vari ety in Sherbrooke.Prices $1.00 per pair and up YOU Æ3LE U*5ï KG Immeasurably worth CHASE SANBORN MONTREAL STAR CLOTHING HALL 5e*t Jffcud coffee will prove it The Store that Sets the Pace other is to be strongly deprecated as tending to bring about a non-conformity to type, a result which would be disastrous to the best interests of humanity.The discussion was then declared open1 and the following took part in the debate ;
