BOARD OF FOR JIANVILLF Organization Decided Upon At a Meeting of ilie Citizens TWENTY-EIGHT JOIN AT FIRST MEETING—MR.M.H.RICHEY PRESIDENT.Danville, May 31.— (Special) —A representative meeting of Danville business men assembled in the Town Hall last evening and took the initial steps towards the organization of a Board of Trade.Mayor Guilmette called the meeting to order and spoke of the advantages which he believed would result from the organization of a Board. The matter had been discussed for same time and Mr.McCracken and Dr.Cleveland had acted as a committee to look into the matter. This public meeting had been called and the Mayor hoped it would he decided to organize.Mr.V.E.Morrill, of the Sherbrooke Board of Trade, was present, and laid before the meeting certain facts bearing upon board of trade organization and incorporation and submitted a sample set of by-laws.It was pointed out that it Danville decided to organize its board would be the twentieth in the Townships.Already it had been shown that these boards could accomplish much both locally on behalf of their individual communities and collectively through the Associated Boards on behalf of the Eastern Townships as a whole. The meeting was thrown open for informal discussion of the matter and on motion of Mr.McCracken, seconded by Mr.H.Girard, it was resolved to organize' a hoard for Danville. The chief officers were elected as follows : Honorary President — Alexander MeLeay.President—M.H.Richey.Vice-President — C.H.Cleveland.Sec.-Treas.—A.J.Bayard.A committee to further the organization was appoioted as follows : H.Girard, Jos.Masson, E.E.Philbrick, A.C.Miquelon and J.H.Doak.The members of the committee will act as chairmen of five permanent committees and together with the President and Vice-President, will form the Executive. They will report at an adjourned meeting, suggesting names, associates on the committees, and forward plans for completing the organization and obtaining incorporation of the Board. It was decided to have an initiatioin fee of $1, and an annual membership fee of $1.It is hoped to interest a large membership and as Danville’s interests are closely allied with the surrounding agricultural district, it is hoped that many farmers of the township may join.Twenty-eight joined immediately and handed in their fees.It was decided to adjourn for two weeks, when it is expected details will be worked out for completing the organization of the Board.Among those present were : Mayor Guilmette, Geo.McCracken, Joseph Masson, H.Girard, J.H.Doak, Dr.McKee, E.E.Philbrick, U.Bonneville, H.R.Cleveland, S.L.Gibson, J.H.Vilandre, L.A.Dion, Victor Roux, Jas.McCallum, J.Wadleigh, H. M.Richey, J.Roy, Max Richey,J.A.Bayard, J.Gifford, G.H.Cleveland, A.C.Miquelon, J.A.Boivin, J.H.Boutelle, A.Chagnon, W.Z.Mathews, Hy.Roux, C.C.Brown,Dr.I. Porter, Ed.Morrill, F.H.Bridgman, L.E.Findley, Wilson and others. It is believed that much interest will ho taken in the new organization and that the Danville Board will interest itself in many matters pertaining to the welfare of the town.It is very likely that the Board will he represented at the next meeting of the Associated Boards at Farnham on the 20th.I DESIST HOME RULE Ulster Army Now to Qoarter of Million Men RECEIVING CAREFUL INSTRUCTION ‘iN USE OF RIFLE FROM ARMY MEN.New York, May 31.—(Special) — A London cable to the Tribune says it is reported from Belfast that the Ulster army, drilled and ready to resist Home Rule, now amounts to a quarter of a million trained men. They are receiving careful instruction by army men and ex-army men in the use of modern rifles. They are practising daily, with and without Morris tubes, indoors and out, but only the chiefs of the organ ization know the places where the stores of weapons are steadily accumulating, or how they are coming.Outcome of Political Battle to Be Determined to day LABOR PARTY NOW IN POWER IS EXPECTED TO BE RETURNED AGAIN.Sydney, N.S.W., May 31.—(Special)—The Australian Commonwealth is awaiting in suspense the outcome of the great political battle that is being fought out at the polls to-day.Never before have the issues at stake in a campaign for the election of members of the Commonwealth Parliament been so momentous and never before has the feeling between the opposing parties been so high.Whether the Labor party now in power shall be retired in favor of the Liberal opposition, or shall be returned to power for another period of three years is the great (i.iestion to be decided by the voters.During the tarlier years of federation in Australia little was accomplished looking to the permanent welfare of the new nation, but during the last few years under the control of the Labor Party, a pioneering policy along economic, social and political lines has been adopted. The Labor party is headed by Andrew Fisher, now serving his second elective term as prime minister of the Commonwealth, while the Hon.Jos.Cook, whose free trade tendencies have caused a split in his party, is leading the Liberals.Although the forces are fairly evenly matched it is believed from certain indications that the Labor party will again be successful and that Premier Fisher, once a coal miner in Wales, will he returned to power.ILEASEO AGAIN FROM Mrs.Pankhurst Went on a Hunger Strike Again.RRIDE OF 1 Ml TAB HER LIEE Party Was Rejoicing In House Over Marriage at Time HTONE CRUSHER READY FOR BUSINESS.Cowansville, May
