bluecoats.There appears to have been no censorship applied.PFITITION FOR FRIDAY EVENING CLOSING.A petition has recently been circulated among the leading merchants of this city, requesting that they close their places of business on Friday evenings through the summer months, out of consideration to the sales people, who, under the present system, find they are unnecessarily confined until 10.30 p.m.every Friday night.Several prominent merchants readily signed the paper, stating that they would willingly close their stores both Friday and Saturday nights if agreeable to all the other merchants.Others raised serious objections, offering several reasons why their respective places of business could not be closed on this particular night.The petitioners think that all the merchants without exception in this progressive city should unite in endeavoring to grant at least this trivial request of those whose duty is to serve and please the discriminating public ten hours each day with an additional evening every Friday and Saturday.It is hoped that the remaining few will coincide with the others and make early closing on Friday a possibility in the near future, and that they will "Do It F^or Sherbrooke” this week in accord with our neighboring - towns and cities.FIREMEN BLOWN FROM BUILDING New Y’ork, June 25.—Seven firemen were blown from a third-storey Patrol Leader J.Wark-, Beaver Patrol, Corporal C.Irwin, Beaver Patrol; Patrol Leader H.Frye, Eagle Patrol.Another interesting item was the “camp craft” competition, which consisted of the lighting of camp fires, boiling water and judging of distance.This was won by G.Wallace, of the Second Sherbrooke Troop, who obtained 75 p.c.marks in distance judging rifi against the second scouts 30 p.c., which speaks well for the way Scouts work in the Old Country.The.prize lie so deservedly won was a sterling silver cup presented by Mrs.Arthur Robinson.This is an individual cup and becomes the property of the winners.The Scoutmaster wishes to thank Dr.Lynch, Mr.Vernon, Dr.Bradley, Mr.S.Saunders and Mr.H.Hon-eyman for their valuable assistance so willingly given.The winners of the field sports were as follows—(The number in brackets after the name denotes the Troop).70 Yards, under 13—M.Loomis (1), Johnson (4);
