LONDON, July 20.—Canon William Barry, a well known English Roman Catholic, has created a mild sensation at a conference being held in Birmingham, by advertising the use by the English Catholics of the English authorized version of the Bible, the version authorized by the Church of England.Canon Barry said, that if Roman Catholics were to persuade the English nation to become Catholic, they must prove to men that they were not giving up the word of God.It was almost impossible, he declared, to measure the English nation’s suspicion of the Roman Catholic Church in this matter.“If you are to convert England,” he added, “you must convert it by means of holy scripture.” He urged inquiry to ascertain whether it was possible to adopt the English authorized version while safeguarding the official status and authority of the Latin vul-gatc.+ •!• + + *.:• •!
