[" Sherbrooke Daily Record Established 1897.\tSHERBROOKE, QUE., FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1921.\tTwenty-fifth Year.UNION LEADERS CALL OFF RAILWAY WALK-OUT British Premier Has Called The Bluff Of The Opposition PREMIER TO ASK HOUSE FOR KANDATE RELATIVE TO CONTINUANCE 3F NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN THE CERTAIN NAVAL BASES NEED TO GOVERNMENT SE KATES AND THHE DAIL EIREANN BE MODERNIZED |k Was Said Today in Political Circles that Lloyd George Had, by \u201cCalling Their Bluff, Knocked the Wind Out of the Unionists Who Were Sponsors of the Vote of Censure of the Government\u201d\u2014Belief Expressed that the Government Will Receive a Big Majority in Support of Policies It Has Followed Relative to Ireland.(Associated Press Oespatd») LONDON, October 28.\u2014Premier Lloyd George will confront the House of Cornons next Monday and ask for a mandate relative to the continuance of the negotiations between delegates of the Government and the Dail Eireann.Announcement to this effect by the Premier yesterday, brought to a head the seemingly serious situation which has developed during the past fortnight by the alleged defection of Unionist leaders and constituencies from support of the Coalition Government.Belief was expressed by newspapers here today, that the Government would receive a big majority in support of the policies it has followed relative to Ireland, and that the ministry's hands would be strengthened in dealing with the Sinn Fein representatives.Mr.Lloyd George received congratulations from the Liberal press for \"grasping the nettle of the hard shell Unionist opposition.\u201d It was said the Premier had, \u201cby calling their bluff, knocked the wind out of the Unionists who were sponsors of the vote of censure to the Government,\u201d which was read in the House on Wednesday.It was remarked by the Times and some other journals, however, tnat the hostility towards the Government was to be found in the constituencies rather than in Parliament, and assertion was made that for this reason Unionist abstentions from the voting next Monday would be almost as significant as hostile ballots.ADVERSE VOTE NOT EXPECTED TO TOTAL MORE THAN FIFTY It whs not expected that the vote adverse to the Government would total more than fifty, and that all the Coalition Liberals and Laborites certainly would rally to the support of the Cabinet.The Times, while recognizing this fact, placed emphasis upon the declaration that Eamonn De Valera\u2019s repudiation of loyalty to the King had so stirred Unionists throughout the country that members of Parliament belonging to that party who were favorable to the continuation of the Irish conference were being pressed to disassociate themselves from the Government\u2019s policy.Unionist members were declared to have been given great embarrassment by this situation, and the Times asserted a \u201cresponsible member of the Government said yesterday it was becoming impossible to carry on.\u201d It was out of deference to the insurgent section of the Unionist party, the newspaper remarked, that Lord Birkenhead replaced Austen Chamber-lain as one of the Government\u2019s representatives at the meeting of the joint committee of the Irish Conference, yesterday.In addition, the pre «ifcifcÿsjPremier Lloyd George States, RTTvrrii?evp wnmn m/vr 1 i However, that Parliament Will MINERS WERE IMPRISONED FORA WEE RUMOR OF BOMB PLOT IN NEW YORK.& (Associated Press Despatch.) ft ft NEW YORK, Oct.28.\u2014A ft ft rumored bomb plot, as part ^ # of an anti-Catholic demon- ft Not Be Asked for Money Vote This Year.(Associated Press Despatch.)
