INHALATION, local and general treatment.Inhalation alone Trill fail to cure most of these diseases, but in connection with proper general remedies, under Dr.HEATH’S direction, it is highly curative in these, heretofore, incurabie affections.Dr.Heath is frequently applied to by persons who have neither been relieved by Inhalation, nor benefitted by shoulder-braces, nor inhaling tubes. The fact is that inhalation is only an auxiliary, and that those “ Traps ” are absolutely injurious. As a proof of the success attending Dr.Heath’s combined treatment, we refer to the subjoined— a few only of a large number of letters :— 4:23 Broadway, New York, Sept.8, 1855, Deab Docïoii :—Although not indebted to you pecuniarily, I am under obligations of gratitude v/hich I do not expect to bo able to pay for yonr skill in curing me of a Bronchial affection, some three years ago, which had troubled me for a uumber of years, and which would not yield to caustic applications, gargles or washes.Notwithstanding my profession requires the almost constant use of my TOcal organs, the cure is permanent. If you think this will be of any service to yourself or the public, you will please use it iu any manner to attain it, You will, no doubt, remember two or three of my friends were also cured by you. MARCUS COLBURN.Nervous, Chronic, Scrofulous, and affections of the Generative system, tax the constitution to such an extent as to render it liable to take no Tuberculous and other Chronic forms of disease in both sexes. Those afflicted with any of these diseases can apply with a certainty of relief to Dr.HEATH, No.850 Broadway, New York, from 9 A.M.to 4 P.M., Sundays excepted.Patients at a distance may be treated or advised by letter on stating their cases fully.Who is Dr.Heath ?For the information and satisfaction of those who perchance do not know, we refer them to an interesting editorial which appeared in the New York Day Book two weeks since, and which has been extensively copied in the leading papers of that city, and pretty generally in the country papers.Wo will let others answer this question, lest our readers who have not read the above-named article, entitled “ The Character and Men of New York, the Metropolis of North America,” should complain of our neglect to publish it also.I have known Dr.Heath for ten or twelve years, daring which time he has assiduously devoted himself to the study and treatment of Chronic Diseases, Genito-urinary, Nervous and Constitutional Affections, Diseases of the Ear and Eye, but especially in treating Consumption and affections of the Chest with flattering success.J.K.SNELL M.D., Green Point, Brooklyn.Having seen numerous affidavits of cures performed by Dr.Heath, of No.850 Broadway, we take pleasure in recommending him to the afflicted.—jidvocate and Register, Rahway, N.J.We most cheerfully recommend Dr.Heath to an enlightened public, as a professional friend of surpassing attainmen ts, and of eminent success in his departments of practice.LESTER GREEN, M.D., N.Y.J .A.SMITH, MvD, N.Y.Dr.Heath is a gentleman of high moral character and most estimable professional abilities.GEO.PETRIE, M.D., N.Y.The two chief characteristics in a good doctor are moral excellence and professional ability, both of which Dr.Heath possesses in an eminent degree, Hon.A.LOOMIS, N.Y.New York, Sept.24, 1855.Dr.Heath—Dear Sir : I have taken mr p^n in hand to inform you that l am entu oh tite trou, -'¦r-y s-, nii ’nnï of ioin.g Consumptive Hair. From the Lowell Journal. This is the title of a very handsomely printed pamphlet, which we received yesterday from Boston. It contains a well written essay upon the anatomy and physiology of the skin and hair, by William Bogle.Mr.Bogle is a gentleman of intelligence, and has examined into the philosophy of his eraft, and reduced it to a science. The treatise which he has written on the nature of the sldn and hair speaks well for him.Mr.Bogle is the inventor of the celebrated Hyperion Fluid for the hair—an article which is becoming very widely known, and has an extensive sale ; probably there is no better mixture than this for the prevention of baldness, removing dandruff, aud preserving the natural beauty and softness of the hair. Those who have paid but little attention to the hair—among whom we are—would bo surprised to learn how much can be said on the subject by an intelligent person who has studied the nature of it.Those-who are anxious to know more, we would recommend to buy this treatise by Mr.Bogle.To be had of Wm.Lyman & Co., Wholesale Agents for G.E.; and sold by A.Savaqe & Co.Ales.Ukqohaet, and S.J.Litm^n & Co., Druggists, Montreal. In Quebec, of extraordinary magnitude, involving immense destruction of valuable property, illuminated the western districts of the metropolis for several hours on Tuesday evening.Upon a plot of ground exceeding a couple of acres iu extent, and running from the Horseferry-road to Holy-well street,Westminster, bavestood for the last thirty years the principal manufacturing shops of Messrs.Broadwood, the famous constructors of every description of first-class piano-fortes.The premises consisted of five distinct ranges of buildings, three stories high, running parallel with each other, anf embracing shops for every department of the manufacture. At six o’clock in the evening 420 workmen left the various shops in the establishment, and, as was invariably the case, one of the foremen inspected the whole premises after their departure, for the purpose of ascertaining that everything was safe, and the stove fires properly extinguished. In little more than half an hour after the workmen had left, smoke was observed issuing from the upper floor of the central range of buildings, immediately beneath the clock tower. An alarm was instantly given at the residence of Mr.Russell, one of the principal managers, who lives adjoining the prsmises in Holywell-atreet.Ho immediately hastened to the building in question, aud at once saw that tha fire had made considerable progress, and was rapidiy increasing in its ravages. The peculiar construction of the workshops—built to obtain the best possible light, and consisting of distinct floors several hundred feet long, without a break of any kind —rendered them any easy prey to the flames, and in less than an hour the fire had obtained so terrible a mastery that very little hope existed from that time of saving any portion of the establishment.Into the interior of the shops very shortly after tho outbreak it was impossible to enter, and it was lamentable to observe the workmen looking on—their eyes suffused with tears—at the destruction of their valuable tools aud materials, without the smallest chance of rescuing them.Out cf the five ranges of shops four had ignited, when Mr.Stadies, foreman of the Brigade, determined to cut off the communication with the fifth range, by tbe employment of a large number of men with pickaxes and o:ber instruments. The rest of the vast manufactory is a total wreck, and tbe loss thus occasioned to Messrs.Broadwood is understood to be something almost fabulous.Nearly 1000 piano-fortes, in various stages of manufacture, have been utterly lost, and the value of the woods and other materials destroyed amounts to an immense sum.5s.per square-foot for veneers used by Messrs.Broadwood is not at all an extravagant price, and from this some notion may be formed of the loss that will be occasioned by the fire. The tools of a single first-class workman also may be estimated at £70.RUSSIAN NAVAL REVIEW AT CRONSTADT The special correspondent of the Morning Post at St.Petersburg, under date of August 4, gives de'aiis of the naval review at Cronstradt:— This morning the thunders of artillery awoke all St Petersburg, and the sea-coast towns for many miles, to witness a grand review of the Russian mortar-boats, off Cronstadt, The whole of Cronstadt was alert at day-break on the 4th, and we passed through the whole line of steam mortar-boats.There were 75 in number, extending along a diagonal front of 15 versts (or ten miles English) within Cronstadt, and from that place to the shore of Peterhoff.Every one ot these boats were furnished with the screw propeller.More than two-thirds of them carried three mortars each—one in the stern, one amidships, and one in the bows ; the rest carried only two pieces. They were very large. The crew of each boat numbered from forty to fifty. The boats were hastily got up ; they are very light in motion, and of very shallow draught. They offer scarcely any mark, and are considerably lower in the water than the French boats of ours of similar construction. This was the great naval rexiew, not only of the Russian Baltic fleet which has lived through the war, but of the new fleet of Russian mortar-boats which may be said to have been born in it.To this review Sir Chas.Napier, inasmuch as he was on a visit to Russia and in the neighborhood, received a special invitation from the High Admiral of the Empire, the Grand Duke Constantine. The very first direct intimation conveyed to him was couched in phrases which would have made many a man wince. He was told that orders had been given at Cronstadt and elsewhere to receive him, and he was politely assured that he would not now experience any difficulty in entering the various fortresses. At the same time the Grand Duko Couslantine ordered a steamer to be stationed iu the river, aud a Russian officer informed the visitor that this vessel was for his special accommodation ; but, first, he was begged to repair at once to tbe Grand Duke’s residence.Sir Charles torthwitb donned his Russian cross of St George (received long ago for the St.Jean d’Acre hit), and waited on the Grand Duke. When he went to Peterhoff he proceeded in his off-hand way straight to the Emperor’s palace, and demanded cf a servant in the grounds whether his Majesty was there. The man could not speak any language that Sir Charles spoke prepared for the statement made at a meeting some years since of the British Scientific Association by Dr.Scoresby, that they averaged no more than twenty feet in altitude, and rarely exceeded 23 feet. The popular impression, principally produced by marine painters, that waves formed valleys thousands of yards across, down the sides of which ships slid as though they were about to ba engulfed, seems to have been equally erroneous, as the maxium length of the occeun waves, according to the same authority, is 600 feet, whilst in a moderate gale they are only 300, and, in a fresh sea, about 120 feet iu length.A moment’s consideration of these facts leads to the conclusion that long ships must have a great advantage over short ones with respect to the rapidity with which they make their journey, as it is quite evident tint whilst the latter have to perform their voyages by making a series of short curves—much to the impediment of their progress, and to the discomfort of their inmates —the former by ruling the waves with their commanding proportions, make shorter and smother passages. As steamers grow larger and larger, sea sickness must therefore gradually diminish.—Scientific American.Grbat Western Railway.— Comparativa Statement of Traffic Receipts for the weeks ending 22nd Aug., 1856 and 1855 :— 1856.No.of Miles open.283 Passengers,
