1 I — 'em V PV ip* * -tm Calendan That all may be one.Today, we live in a world setting where we interact with people of multiple races, cultures and religions even within our own neighbourhood. They come from varied backgrounds, speak different languages and reflect a broad spectrum of life experiences and lifestyles.A mosaic of nations indeed provides a variety of ideas, skills and interests that create a vibrant and dynamic society that enriches us.Accepting these realities makes us aware of the needs of others and evokes our sense of solidarity, our interconnectedness with one another.Truly, there is beauty and strength in diversity. But our differences can also give rise to mistrust, tension and conflicts. They can cause dissension and misunderstanding which might escalate to hatred, violence, religious hostilities and even wars.- ", lilliiil The challenge posed before us is to discover the art of living together. What is our response when our values and beliefs are contradicted? Can we recog- nize how precious others are even with their qualities totally unlike ours?Do we have the courage to enter into a dialogue and discover our commonalities? How willing are we to reach out to the other person and build up a true sense of oneness and harmony? That all may be one - this is Christ's dream for all.Created in God's image, we are called to the same goal — God Himself. He has willed that all men should constitute one family in Christ who is beyond culture and in Him find the deepest reason for our unity and communion.Pope John Paul II exhorts us to be on a missionary path: to go to meet women and men of every race, tongue and nation with friendship and love.May our daily encounters draw us closer to our Creator who beholds the beauty of each one and seeks to unite us in His Kingdom. With joy and gratitude, let us celebrate the richness of our diversity as we welcome the year 2004.A blessed and peace-filled New Year to everyone! 11111 HjiSg You are the God of Life How can we express our wonderment, Lord! You are the God of life! You elicit in us the joy to share, to trust, to hope. You are with us to fight against those wanting to bind persons in their body, in their spirit, in their words and in their dignity.Allow us to thank you, Lord, for the powerful breath of life that rises up on our earth, for the superabundance of its wealth, for the beauty and variety of people dwelling on it.Thank you, Lord, to have created especially each human being, in your image and likeness.Help us to live in harmony with one another.Teach us to respect and protect the earth that you gave us.Lord, make of us artisans of freedom among our brothers and sisters. Our earth could then continue to give life to all your children who will sing your inexhaustible goodness.
