that they are “Chronometer akers to the Queen.” There is absolutely only one test of the character of a Chronometer maker known to or recognized by the British Government. That is.the periodical competition instituted by the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, to which all the leading makers send specimens of their productions. The Chronometers are subjected to a most searching trial, and their performance carefully noted. The result is afterwards published as a Parliamentary paper. In the Government trial for the year just ended, Mr.Sewill’s Chronometer stood at the top of the list, thereby surpassing all the other makers in the Kingdom, while Messrs.Russell & Sons stood the twenty-first down the list, proving that even after Mr.Sewill there are nineteen manufacturers whose Chronometers are superior and more reliable than those of Messrs.Russell, who, during tlnaflvhole of the years they have oeen in business,- have never succeeded in selling a Chronometer to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, for the use of Queen Victoria’s Royal Navy—their Chronometers hav ing invariably been returned to them as below the standard required in Pier Majesty’s N avy.Messrs.H.& A.Saunders beg also to remind the public that the productions of Mr.Sewill, in addition to being proved to be superior to atl others before the unquestionable tribunal referred to, have received the most distinguished Royal and International Ronours that were ever conferred on a manufacturer; as, for instance, being the only Liverpool maker to whom was awarded the Great Prize Medal of the International Exhibition of London in 1862, and the Grand Medal of Honour at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1867.Messrs.H.& A.Saunders refrain from comment upon these facts, being convinced that they speak for themselves ; and further, notwithstanding the specious evasions of inferior manufacturers, the PREEMINENCE of Mr.Sewill’s productions wilt be appreciated by the people of Canada; their superiority being conclusively demonstrated by the credentials of the highest authorities in horologic science.June 20. tTS 147 FRENCH lessons.A Parisian lady is desirous or obtaining a position in an English Family, where she would give instruction in the French language, and receive in compensation
