church, but a goodly number were there. The bride looked j charming, dressed in white with a bridal veil, the bridesmaids her sisters lieing one in white and one in pink, Mr.W.D.Fraser and ^Mr.McCaw acting as best men. The] party then drove to the residence of Mr.Whitcher, where a wedding supper was partaken of.At nine the happy couple left by Passumpsic R.R.for a trip to New York and Philadelphia. We wish them every happiness and prosperity in life.Mr.Anderson received a beautiful silver service from the employees of the Q.C.Ry., and the bride many elegant presents.PERSONAL INTELLIGENCE.Mr.Z.P.Cormier is now able to attend his store a part of the time.Mr.Robt.Arkley, of Sherbrooke, is putting the Cotton Mill at Magog in readines to receive machinery. We are sorry to learn of the illness of Lt.-Col.W.E.Ibbotson who has been comfined to the house for a number of days.W.E.Jones of the Guardian dropped in upon us this week.We are pleased to see Bro.Jones keeping his age and vigor so well.K?*The celebrated “ Prince of Wales” double Box Stoves at Lucke & Mitchell’s.Exchange of Property. We learn that C.H.Fletcher, Esq., has effected an exchange of his well known Spring Brewery for the Burton brewery property.Rev.Dr.Sutherland.The Rev.Dr.Sutherland, who was in Sherbrooke recently at the missionary anniversaries and went to the Maritime Provinces, having unexpectedly been called back to Ontario, will spend Sabbath, Nov.6th, in this city and will preach in the Methodist Church in the evening at 7 o’clock. This intimation will doubtless be enough to fill the church to its utmost. He will also assist at the morning sacramental service.RIFLE MATCH.The 20th annual competition of the Sherbrooke Rifle Association was held this week. The attendance of marksmen, considering the cold weather, was good, and some good scores were made but the average would doubtless have been very much better had they not been compelled to use old worthless ammunition at the last moment, that ordered from Montreal not having arrived. The meeting was marked by the number of young shots who came forward to compete, and who pressed hard upon the older competitors. We append the names of winners, the scores and the value of prize. The president, Judge Brooks, and several other non-shooting officers of the Association visited the range during the match.MATCH NO.1.—NURSERY.Range 400 yards—7 shots.1 Capt.H.R.Fraser 29 $7 00 2 Pte.Byrd 22 5 00 3 Servt.-Maj.Rawson, 21 3 50 4 Corp.Geo.Park 20 3 00 Wellington Street, named Arthur Picher, and who had been going to the Brothers School, strayed away on the 26th October (last week Wednesday) and has not been seen since by his parents who are getting exceedingly anxious about him.He was dressed, in a dark tweed suit,, wore a small round skull cap made of grey tweed. He is of a dark complexion, dark eyes and hair.He left-home for school the day of his disappearance, having a bag in which were his books, his name being written in the books.Information of his where-abouts will be thankfully received by his parents, or word left with Mr.John Edwards. The Hospital Entertainment. The entertainment given last Friday evening at St.Peter’s Church Hall, irn in aid of the Children’s Ward of the Protestant Hospital was a great success in every way.The hall was crowded to the door, no much so that, the fair little red cross nurses were scarcely able to get about with their refreshments, which were readily sold,, as was every bit of the candy made,, and orders taken for a considerable quantity more. The receipts we understand netted the nice sum of 8170 after meeting the< expenses.Great credit is due Miss Hallowell for the inception and help in carrying out the entertainment.Of the music it was greatly enjoyed, the Sherbrooke Orchestra fairly outdoing themselves, while the choruses by the children, and the boys of Bishops College School were loudly applauded. The Glee Club, Mrs.Morkill, Mr.Fraser and the music by Mr.Thos.Clark and Prof, and Mrs.Reed were all good.Mrs.Wilson ably presided at the piano.“The Army.” A little flutter of excitement hus been caused the past few evenim ;s around the door of the Salvation Arm y barracks by the appearance of th e Sub-Chief and eight or ten Stalwru t Guardians of the law.Upon enquiry we learn that they have orders to CONFINE THE TROOPS TO BARRACKS until they consent to parade the streets without the thunder of the big btu is drum and the mammoth flag thrut frightens horses to the imminent d&i i-ger especially of children and ethtir pedestrians. We understand that remonstrance has been unavailing wi.tli the Captain, and that she persists in doing just as seemeth to her beat. She claims, however, to be acting under orders from her superior which she is bound to obey.Complaints iwe frequent of late from merchants and others about their impeding traffic on the streets ; and on Sundays inarching past the churches, where the congregations are holding service, with drums and other instruments creating a din only less horrible than the singing and compelling the service to stop until they get out of hearing. We do not know if they can be legally detained in their hall, but certainly a little common sense ought to be exercised in their street manoeuvres, as they have no more rights tlian any other body of worshippers.Lodge Anniversary.1 C.H.Clark 58 $10 00 2 Sergt.R.P.Doyle 51 8 00 3 E.A.Lung 50 7 00 4 Sergt.C.P.Byrd 49 5 50 5 Saturday evening last in their handsome hall, Odell’s block, by the members and their wives to the number of sixty or more, when a most enjoyable time was had.The stormy weather had prevented some attending nevertheless the room was well filled.Bro.N.N.Walley presided, Bro.C.G.Thompson in the vice-chair.The degree of Rebekah was conferred upon some thirty of the ladies and gentlemen who had not previously received it, after which an adjournment was made to the hall adjoining where refreshments were served.Returning to the Lodge Bioom the Secretary, Bro.L.E.Charbonmel, read a synopsis of the standing of the Lodge by whitfh it appeared that since its organization one hundred and sixty tiiree members had become united will* t!;e great brotherhood of Oddfellows, and that now, deducting the names of those who had d^ed, dropped or removed, there were one hundred and twenty active members of the Unity Lodge, a growth few lodges could boast of.The cash receip ts in that period had kept pace with the membership, for in addition to the large sum for expenses, together with the cost of fitting up their hall, over $1,200, the Lodge had expended the sum of fifteen hundred dollars in.the relief and assistance of its members.Nor is this all. They have out at interest sixteen hundred dollars which is available for the relief of those entitled to receive it at the hands of the Lodge,—to relieve the distressed, to bury the dead to educate the orphan and aid the widows of deceased Oild-fellows.The lodge also have a bank account from which to meet currmit expenses while the revenue from dues alone are over $700 a year. This shows that the order is in a flourish ing condition as so long as it continues to carry out the tenets of the order so long will it continue to prosper. The Rev.Mr.Kines, Grand Representative, had an address prepared on the Order, but owing to the lateness of the hour he thought it better to defer it to a future occasion. The ladies decided to hold a monthly meeting and the Lodge was closed after a most pleasant evening had been spent.C^ All Wool Scarlet Underclothing at 55 cents, all Wool Grey at 50 cents, 2 cases sold last
