It is impossible to take these figures in all that they imply without realizing at once the enormous magnitude of this interest. But it is not alone in the matter of extent of sea-coast line that Canada has a surplus in fish wealth ; but, in the extreme nor them iocation which she occupies she possesses an advantage which is of immense value, and this is that the fish are not only better and firmer in northern climates, butthit the supply of fish foyd, owing to the extreme northern location, is inexhaustible. As has been truly said by Mr.Harvey, the Arctic currents which wash the coast of Labrador, Newfoundland, and Canada, chilling the atmosphere and bearing on its bosom huge ice argosies, is the source of the vast fish wealth which has been drawn on for ages, and which promises to continue for ages to come.Wanting this cold river of the ocean, the fish which now crowd the northern seas would be entirely absent.Professor Hind says : “The Arctic seas and the great rivers which they send forth swarm with minute forms of life, constituting in many places a living mass, a vast ocean of living slime. The all-pervading life which exists here affords the true solution of the problem which has so often presented itself to those investigating deep-sea fisheries, the source of food which gives sustenance to the countless millions of fish.” The harvest of the sea has not yet been gleaned to the same extent as the harvest of the lard ; but this fact may be taken for granted, that of all the countries in the world, and of all the riches of these countries, nothing can be made more useful, in a higher form, toward sustaining life, or to a greater extent, than the vast wealth of the fisheries of Canada. They are practically inexhaustible, because the cold current of the north brings with it the food on which these fish thrive, and the supply is one that can never fail. The seacoasts of the Atlantic and the St.Lawrence on the east, the long stretches of the Hudson’s Bay coast in the centre, and the three thousand miles of coast line of British Columbia on the west, are in themselves a great possession, while the fresh water fish of the great lakes of the northwest, especially in the supply of the praire States, should be relatively as great a contribution to the sustentation of human life as are the supplies of cattle upon the plains.( Concluded next week.) Is It Genuine.Probably thousands of people in this section of country, and this section is no exception to any other in this respect in the United States, have read the report said to have been written by Prof.S.A.Lattimore, Ph.D., LLD., Analyst of Foods and Medicines, New York State Board of Health and Professor of Chemistry in the Rochester, N.Y., University, stating that all of Safe Remedies manufactured by H.H.Warner & Co.were pure and wholesome, nor did any of them contain any mercury or deleterious substance. To shorten the controversy, however, we will give Prof.Latti-more’s report entire : University of Rochester, \\ Chemical Laboratory.J Mr.H.H.Warner has placed in my possession the formulm of the several medicines manufactured and «old under the general designation of Warners Safe Remedies.” I have investigated the process of manufacture which are conducted, with extreme care and according to the best methods 1 have taken from the Laboratory samples of all the articles used in the preparation of these medicines, as well as the several medicines in which they enter.I have also purchased from different druggists in this city “Warner’s Safe Remedies,” and upon critical examination I find them entirely free from mercury and from poisonous and deleterious substance.S.A.Lattimore, Ph.D., LL.D., Analyst of Foods and Medicine, New York State Board of Health, Professor of Chemistry, University of Rochester, N.Y.We cannot think that a firm of the standing of H.H.Warner & Co.would dare publish such a statement if it were untrue, and we now have that firm’s authority to say to our readers that it is absolutely and unqualifiedly true in every particular.-• - Some Apples. The Brooklyn Eayle, in reply to an inquiring reader, produces the follow ing :— “ How many apples did Adam and Eve eat on a certain memorable occasion ?” “One of course.” No, there were six lawyers who tried their genius on this problem, and they answered in succession as follows : First Lawyer.—“ Eve 8 (ate) and Adam 2.Total 10.” Second Lawyer.—“Eve 8 and Adam 8.Total 10.” Third Lawyer.—“Eve 8 and Adam 82.Total 90.” Fourth Lawyer.— “Eve 81 and Adam 812.Total 893.” Fifth Lawyer.—“Eve 814 herself and Adam 8124 himself.Total 2,938.” Sixty Lawyer.—“Eve 8142 know how it tasted, and Adam 28142 know what it was like.Total, 30,283.” What Am I To Do ?The symptoms of Biliousness are unhappily but too well known. They differ in different individuals to some extent.A Bilious man is seldom a breakfast eater.Too frequently, alast he has an excellent appetite for liquide but none for solids of a morning.Hi, tongue will hardly bare inspection as any time ; if it is not white and furreds it is rough, at all events. The digestive system is wholly out of order and Diarrhoea or Consumption may be a symptom or the two may alternate. There are often Hemorrhoids or even loss of blood. There may be giddiness and often headach, and acidity or flatulence and tenderness in the pit of the stomach. To correct all this if not effect a cure try Green’s August Flower, it costs but a trifle' and thousands attest its efficacy. tf - - The Ice-Man.Ho lifts his grateful soul in praise Because there is no ice ; And later in the season he Will also lift the price.FOYSUMFTIOSl CIJKF.D An old physician retired from practice, having had placed in his hands by an East Indian missionary the formula of a simple vegetable remedy for the speedy and permanent cure of Consumption, Bronchitis, Catarrh, Asthma and all Throat and Lung Affections, also positive and radical cure for Nervous Debility and all Nervous Complaints, after having tested its wonderful curative powers in thousand of cases, has felt it his duty to make it known to his suf-feringfellows.Actuated by this motive and a desire to relieve human suffering, 1 will send free of charge, to all who desire it,this recipe in German, French or English with full directions for preparing and using.Sent by mail by addressing with stamp, naming this paper, \\V.A.Noyes, 149, Rower’s Block Rochester, N.Y.lOe.o.w.October 21, 1888.Western — “ Huh ! Why the evils arising from the use of this drink are such as to beggar description and defy exaggeration, while on Mr.Gwilym's own showing it is an article that may be readily dispensed with. And as to expediency, is he prepared to deny that what is inexpedient on moral grounds is unlawful to him who perceives the inexpediency ? 1 would not tor a moment interfere with “ the Christian’s exercise of the use of his liberty,” but 1 would remind him that he is responsible to God for the use of his liberty, “ Take heed lest this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to them that are weak.” 1 never charge a man with sin because he drinks a glass of this drink, neither do the generality of teetotallers. But I do say, iu the words of Holy Writ, “ He that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin,” aud by parity of reasoning, he that knoweth to do harm and doeth it, to him it is sin. Thos.Snow.Utulerbarrow Parsonage, Kendal, Eng., 12th February, 1889.GOLD MEDAL, PARIS, 1878, BAKER’S a minted absolu tel y pu re Cocoa, from which the excess of OU has been removed. It has mers than three timet the ttrength ot Cocoa mixed with Starch, Arrow-root or Suitar.and is therefore far more economical, costing leuthan one cent a cup.It is delicious, nonrishine, strengthening, easily digested, and admirably adapted for Invalids as weU as for persons iu health.Sold by Grocers everywhere.?, BAKER & CO., Dorcliester.Mass.UNDEBTAKINS The subscriber has now in stock a very fine assortment of Coli^CasketsJrimings AND FUNERAL REQUISITES, Which he is prepared to furnish at moderato prices. All orders will receive careful and personal attention.W.R.BRADLEY, No.66 Factory Street.Sherbrooke, March 18, 1888.RULING AND ALL KINDS OF BLANK WORK TO ORDER.insrliis i Underwood’s Everlasting Bank, Combined Writing an) Copying and Carmine Inks In Stock.Brook's Block.4)|»|>o«|te P.O.-MAXiOCi- WOOLEN MILLS, SHERBROOKE, P.Q.Constipation followed by fitful diarrhoe t, sh(*oting pains in the breast, drawing down aching pa rs, burning sensation in the small of the back, scanty, dark-colored fluids which scald in passing, and many deposits—sand, mucus, tube casts, and fl aids covered by a greasy scum, anyone of the foregoing signifies advanced kidney trouble.Prof.Wm.H.Thompson, M.Lb, of the University of the City of New York, says : More adults are carried off in this country by chronic kidney disease than by any other one malady except consumption.” The late Dr.Dio Lewis in speaking of Warner’s Safe Cure, said over his own signature : “If I found myself the victim of serious kidney trouble 1 would use yout preparation.” , A Chinese cashier of a Chicago mercantile house has skipped to Canada with about ?40,000.The Chinese must go, eh ?Well, one of them has gone.Sleighs and Sleigh W0°M «O “^M, bo,, you u*.™ . ____.^ “ . It gneves your father s Heart to n^ar Alao .Storage, Painting and Vam.shing. * ulk way< My most earned S.A.HUNTING, SHERBROOKE, prayer is that you will grow up with SOUTH WELLINGTON STREET. too much brains for a foreign mission.A.L.GRINDROO A CO., CUSTOM MANUFACTURING.Spinning, Carding, Fulling TWEEDS, FULL CLOTH, FLANNELS, BLANKETS, YARNS, eto.Highast price paid for Wool—Cash or in ax-change for Goods.
