appearance in that town : “Miss Lule Warrenton, a young American reader of extraordinary dramatic power, was greeted by a fair audience in concert hall last Monday evening. She possesses wonderful dramatic eloquence, perfect pronunciation, is exceedingly graceful in dilineation, and in her rendering of the “Chariot Race” (Ben Hur) “The Letter Scene,” and “Sleepwalking long year, and when it is known that in such cities as London, Hamilton, and Toionto, she is highly appreciated and sought after to give entertainments, it should be enough to say that the recommendation is perfect.” Most Important Notice- In order to reduce my stock which is very large, and the assortment unbroken, I will give for the whole month of December, discounts of ten and Co.Pitcher’s Castorla.Fire in An alarm from box 25, ®ity Hall, at 10,20 Saturday evening last brought out the brigade. At that hour smoke was discovered coming out of the cellar window under A.Laurent’s store in the south eud of the block, and the alarm given. On the arrival of the firemen search was made for the seat of the fire as n© perceptible blaze was to be seen when it was located in the rear basement of Mr.Laurent’s premises.Water was soon pouring into the basement both front and rear and the crash of glass and crockery told of havoc inside. The fire, which was found among some cotton batting and canvas wrapping under the stair leading from the store above to the basement, was soon put out, but owing to the dense smoke none dared venture in for some time. The origin of the fire seems to be a mystery as Mr.Laurent and Mr.H.A.Odell were in the basement not over 20 minutes before tbe fire was discovered and they neither saw nor smelt anything burning. The damage was of course principally from smoke and water, but better that than a disastrous tiro, which would have no doubt occurred had it been in the late hours of the night or had it got 30 minutes more start. As to Mr.Laurent’s damage that has not yet been arrived at but it must be considerable as nearly all the dry goods in his store were damaged with the smoke. They are taking an inventory, and when finished the insurance companies will appraise the loss. The damage to Messrs Lucke & Mitchell, who occupied the front half of the basement under Laurent’s store as a china and glassware storerooms, was pretty heavy. In here they had an extensive stock of costly china and glassware lamps etc., for the holiday trade and a large part of it was smashed into fragments, the remsinder being more or less injured. The amount of loss in their case, which was insured by Mr.W.S.Dresser in various companies he represents, was in the neighborhood of $2,000 and has been amicably adjusted by the insurance appraisers.Decorated Chamber Sets $2.00 each, 10 Pieces.Lucke & Mitchell.IJcuj Jk&ucrtiscmcnts.Utctiort Sixlcg.BY JOHN J.GRIFFITH.Insolvent Notice!
