Titre :
Morning chronicle and commercial and shipping gazette
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

edition of the Queen’s Speech, on the prerogatioa of the Imperial Parliament, published on this continent. The Speech is a little longer, and pooseaaes less formality than usual.Nay, there is a calm dignity about the document which one cannot help feeling, when he reads the plain statement given therein of the results of the late great contest. While the empires of Kurope seem trembling on the surface of secret convulsions, while the peninsulas of th° old continent are becoming the scenes of insurrection and anarchy, while the neighboring States are distracted and unsettled ¦with electioneering strife and the struggles of adverse interests, the sovereign of the British dominions is calmly thanking her Parliament for their “support in the hour of trial,’» and prays that the prosperity o! her “ faith-fdl people may continue and increase by the general conaequences of peace.” It is gratifying also to hear of Her Majesty’s anxiety to avail herself of the same opportunity to express the pleasure, which it aflorded her to receive, during the war, numerous and honourable proofs of loya Ity and public spirit from Her Majesty’s Indian territories, and “ those colonial possessions, which constitute so valuable and important a part of the dominions of the British crown.” The favorable alate of the revenue, the thriving condition of all branches of the national industry, are subjects of congratulation in the Royal Speech* while Her Majesty gratefully acknowledges “the loyalty ot her faithful subjects, and that spirit of order, that respect for the law» which prevails in every part of her dominions.” Who does not feel proud on such an occasion ol belonging to so great and glorious an empire, and of living under so illustrious and exemplary a sovereign? We do not olten intrude the expression ol such sentiments on our readers, we believe it unnecessary to do so; yet the patriotic hope that loyalty and order may be encouraged and increased in the remoter parts of the British dominions by glancing at the noble picture exhibited in ihe mother country at the present moment, may readily excuse this special notice of a formal ceremony.Th« Qubbm'» Plate ot Pirrv Gvikba».lb« Low liar Most Gracious Majesty, —(or horses bred er Canada.—S utile dash : Entrance 47 10a p.p.— Turf Club YVelfhla.Mr.Klrwlu'a ensued, induced Mr.( habot to leave n disgust the arena of an assemblage in which scenes of violence seemed to have taken the place ol the rights of tree Jiscus-gion.Such is the substance ot the report, the details of which can be confirmed by the oaths and affidavits of persons present, such is the true account of a meeting in which certainly public opinion was not representetl, nor indeed the opinion of the assembly it^eU-We publish in conclusion, the Resolutions which were finally adopted.A number of citizens, far from satisfied with the manner in which the proceedings had been conducted, or the object aimed at, got together a more orderly assemblage, at a short distance trom the spot, where the onginsl meeting had been A Î i n cr tO tht5 tCStimOnV Ol convoked.According to the meantime the interest had to be provided for, and this rendered necessary the re-imposition of the du* t e« which he (Mr.Cayley) bad taken off last year. The story had been told at Goderich, by a Mr.Malcolm Cameron, that a certain merchant of that town h«d infirme! some customers of his, (fiieuds of Mr.Cayley.) that be was ob'iged to ask them 3 cents extra, per lb.on rawr sugar, ss that was the additional duty Mr.Cayley had put on—that these friends hsd thereupon declared their intention to go into opposition. Now: be.(Mr.Cayley) would remind tbe me-ting that the re»lurtion he bad made last year was about an eighth of a penny on raw sugar, ami he had placed only that amount back again, lo meet the Grand Trunk l>*bt, and the whole duty was but 3 farthings per lb.; so that the merchant alluded to must, according to Mr.Cameron's account, have been making a scape-goat of the Government to squeesAan a 'drtionsl profit of three cents per lb.out of his customer. With regard to the duty on Tea, precisely tbe same course had b-en taken—last year be had re»luced the du-y to 2d.per lb., and tbia year had risen it to More Falsehoods of the Colonist.—As an instance of the means habitually resorted to by the Quebec Colonist, to impose upon its readers and the public generally, we copy the following from our esteemed and oft quoted cotemporary of Three Rivers : The QtioUeo Colonial aaya the Governor General waa hlased at Three Hirer* : the saaertlon la about »a true aa that of the Ha* Caneda.who Inform* n* " that every Canadian month wa* rlo«e *buL" when the asked his opinion about representation by population. He had no heaiislion in declaring that in hit opinion the principle waa a sound and ronslitu-lional one.He h«d advocated it when formerly in th* House, and before the number ol members of the Houae ol Assembly had been increased had contended, that it ahoull be ma'I* a part of th* Bill, sod that the necewary machinery should have been introduced into It to carry it out.(Hear, hear ) The Glob* was then the most violent opponent to the acb»rne and the proposition wsa defeated.H# would now wait until the next general oenni» wa* taken and should then lie nreimred to advocate it whether in favour of Upper or Lower Canada.(Cheer».) He thought that rnueh misconception existed as to the amount o< the population in Lower Censda, owing lo the very imperfett way in which the last return* from that quarter of the Province hsa been
