Titre :
Morning chronicle and commercial and shipping gazette
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

But when my right hon.friend was asked by the committee if he thought it desirable to attempt also to colonie# the land on the adjacent coast be ans vered." No, we should have enough to do in colonizing the Island.'’ He will not say that now.He knows that now circumstances have arisen which call upon us to place, as soon as possible, the adjacent territory under die safeguard of an estahlisehed Government, sneh as this Bill would provide. And those circumstances are the discovery of goldfields, the belief that those goldfields will be eminently productive, the number of persons of foreign nations and unknown character already impelled to the place by that belief, i need say no more to show tbe imperative necessity of establishing aGovernmentwbererer the hope of gold, to be had for digging, attracts all adventurers and excites all passions.(Hsar ) At this momem there is no Imperial Government at all in the place, for the Governor of Vancouver's owns i)0 commlsson on the mainland. Thus, the discoveryjof gold compels us to do at once what otherwise we should very soon h*T0 done—erect into a colony a district that appears, in great part, eminently sultKd fer civilized habitation and culture.(Hear, hear.) Before I proceed further It may be Interesting to the House to give a sketch of the little that is known to ns through official soi revs of the territory in which these new goldfields have been disoorered. The territory lies between the Rocky Mountains and the I’aciflc : it is bounded on the south by the American frontier line 49 deg.of latitude, and may be considered to extend to the
