SIR,—Will you please give notice in your interesting paper, that I have been informed that thirty miles above this, at a place called Little Vallée, the inhabitants aaved a long boat in which there was a lantern, two 1 c-preservers, also a pair of oars. The same people picked up, along the shore, two' tinnets of butter, and a few barrels of flour, with two barrels in which there wa* sugar, besides & number of pieces of rigging^ I am afraid we shall shortly hear of a good many accidents to vessels, for since the beginning of the month, tbe wind ha* kept for the moat part N.and N.B, with continual snow and rain There has been very few vewel* m sight since the first of the month. The courier from St Anne found a dead man along the sea shore on hb down trip, at a distance of eighteen mile* above tbi*.The same person, apparently, wa* teen here on Sunday last, in perfect health. He U an Hitman of about five fret nine inches in height, with thin brown hair, dressed with a blue cloth tail coat with yellow buttons, light colored cloth cap, and checked pantaloons. The cause of death was supposed to be hia falling on a slippery stone, and receiving a blow on bis bead, which caused instant death.By this Government will snrely remark how roads are needed between this and St.Anne des Monts, when onr mail-carrier is expected once every week by the same.I remain, Dear Sir, Yours truly.J.P- Great Fox River, Nov.3Ttb.îb. rfsiw r^k.£.th.Both day ofScpu«- Sit «MMter of.e’Ht tb« »htp «enrey Birch.Sr-EÆ".î» ea-r-JS'îrS.tJK Tork in eoeformity with tb.L»w* of »b.OalUd «.^ bonod for tb.port of H.vr.d.Greee, ta wSTa ® •« ?90 ; Snperfln., $5.10 to 5.19: F*®*y- $5.40 te 5.B0 Extra at 5.80 to 5.90 ; Doable Extra $• to 6,90. B**.- fiO to 9,80 .Tbore l.a iteady demand for Na I, and lower gradee "'wheat—Car lord* $1.06 to »,07 for 8prtaf, aed $U6 to $1.18for Fall Wheat continuée dull Oatmrel por bbl.of 90# Ibe—$4,B5 a 4-30.Beeroa Bariev —48c to 50c per 50 Ita Vwy daU.Corn per 56 lb.59 to 55c Nomleal.OsU.—No wtaolMale tran*»cUoo*.Peu p.r 66.Ihe 65e to 79c.Artie*-Pots.06.95 to 6.30 : lot «dor* Sc Pearls BA.10 to $6.X5 per 119 lb.Huu.r-Cboleedrtry 15 to cholco .tor.peeked, IS to 14s.ttud store-parked Poor gradrt 9 to He.®r***^7 *° ».__ Pork, —Frlm.$9; Prim» teqe* $19; T$la bfsfl requett of the Captain, take ap arm.agalart tb.Coefedaraio TTooidb.Mbwatod.batlwuHewmirt t betas taken.Tbe «turner __EafUrti* ChaaeeL a^ arrived a» Eoatbampton at aboat * am.oa the Sl.l lortaai, ud SSrTo aïtaor ta tb.rtvw.Oapmje aid ma that I and my crow wore at liberty- aad mw*t j^tTrtmrwbatbarefaud to pataeoa sbwo, aad I Vbarrtor.amployod a «team tag at mJLÎZrtltTTTi ¦Ad landed my orow ta Boetbampto» ^7**° * Md io am.aad tbay *** United Bute.0.ual tbara. ^ board the staamer, la eoovaraattoa wUASAm ommn.^ W*r't an.Iwaatrtd by «Irt’tST^wthat teamwwariftaaUy algeedartWea •t Oh*r£t»g the o*”** ebaafvd.i^S^trtSTwwa breesbt oa board, whleb tba **T.j j .m,.ri'ri ta rtga by threat, of foru.I Wew ww^ .^Tlh4t tb.crew wu oompoMd ot Bag.ua ^irta^Tbeebrooometor aad barometw be* “SÏTObj"® “k-•» °^— THE MOENING CHRONICLE: FRIDAY.DECEMBER 13.1861.STCP ÏHAT C0U9H! ; Ths Daily Tribuns being some mo- t:;s older and Ths Sbxi-Wbbkly Tribune Borne* hat- younger. For more than twenty ye*ir4 ibis journal has labored in what '.ts i a .ductors nave felt to be the cause of Humanity Justice and Freedom, endeavoring to meliorat.he condition of the oppressed and uofortunai , to honor and encourage useful exertion in wbatev-r sphere, and to promote by all means tbe moral, ini/el-leotaal and material advancement of our country. It has aimed to be right rather than popular, and to espouse and commend to-day tbe truth that others may not be willing to accept till to-morrow.In pursuing this course, •mistakes have doubtless been made and faults committed; but, having in all ibiogs incited our readers to think and judge for themselves rather than adopt blindly our own or others’ conclusions, we believe w# may fairly claim for this journal tbe credit of having qualified its renders to detect and expose evnn its own errors. To develop the minds of tb* yonng by the most general,.thorough and practical Bdu cation, and to encourage and stimulate Productive Industry, throngh free grants of Public Lands to actual settlers and culiivatorx, as also througb tbe protection of immature or peculiarly exposed branches from too powerful foreign competition, are among the aims to which this journal has sdhered through good and evil report, and which it steadfastly commends to American patriotism and philanthropy. As to the Civil War now divastatiiig our coun-try, we hold it to have originated iu a rebellion more wanton, wicked, inexcusable, than was ever before known-a rebellion iu the interest of the few against the many—a rebel, lion designed to raise higher the walls of Caate and tighten tbe chains of Oppression.Having di*ne all we could without a surrender of vital principle to avoid this War, and witnessed the forbearance, meekness and long-suffering with which the Federal Government sought to avert its horrers, w# bold it our clear duty, with that of every other citizen to stand by tbe Nation aud its fairly chosen rulers, and to second with all our energies their efforts to ophold tbe Union, the Constitution and tbe supremacy of the laws.Aod, though tbe rebellion has become, through usurpation, deception, -crrorum and spoliation, fearfully strong, we believe the American Repabiie far stronger, and that tbe anauimoas, earnest efforts or loyal hearts and bands will insure its overthrow But on ill questions affecting tbe objects, tbe ¦cope and duration of this most extraordinary contest, wa defer to those whom tbe American People hav* clothed with authority, holding unity of purpose aud of action indispensable in to grave an emergency. In a crisis like the present, our columns muet be largely engrossed with tbe carrent history of (be war for the Union, and with elucidations of its more striking incidents. We shall not, however, remit that attention to literature, to foreign affairs, to agrienltorak Progress, to crops, markets, Ac., Ac., which has already, we trust, won for The Tribune an honorable position among its cotemporaries. Our main object is and shall he to produce a com prebensive newspaper, from which tbe carefoi reader may glean a vivid aod faithful history of tbe times, not merely in the domain of action but in that of opinion also As our facilities for acquiring information increase with years, we trust that an improvement in the contents of our journal is perceptible, and that, in tbs variety and fullness of intelligence al-forded, w* may still hope to 'make each day a critic on the last.’ In this hope, we solicit s continuance of the generous measure of patronage hitherto accorded to our journal.TERMS.DAILY TRIBUNE : $6 per annum. To Canada $7.56, including
