Titre :
Morning chronicle and commercial and shipping gazette
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

in pursuit, and making every effort to meet them. The /fenrid\u2019s special says of ths miue sprung by the Confederates, that our forces were aware of this intention. It occurred on the p.m.of the 4th, and was immediately succeeded by rapid volleys of musketry. The smoke of the explosion had hardly cleared away whan our men answered the Confederates\u2019 fire, and drowned the Confederate yells with their wild cheer of derision at the failure of their mining operations. The enemy, in all probability, intended to have blown up a sap we bad run out towards their line, and charge through the opeuiog. They had, however, sadly miscalculated their distance, and the explosion took place live yards in advance of the head of the sap.Not a particle of debrlt was thrown into any portion of our lines, and the sharpshooters did not even think it necessary toahaudon the sap.The explosion could bear no comparison hi magnitude with that of Burnside's mine.A mass of dirt 30 feet in diameter was thrown into the air to the height of 100 feet, the centre portion being elevated considerably above the sides. It was immediately perceived that there was a failure, and they were satisfied with rising behind their works and pouring iu a musketry fire. The main part of the firing was on Ames' front, but it afterwards extended slightly to the front of Burnside's right The artillery fire was almost as high as on the ever-memorable morning ; the Confederates developed a number of new batteries and fired with fat more accuracy than they have hitherto been accustomed to do.Oue peculiar feature of this fire was its extraordinary rapidity. The losses are but trifling, hardly more than would have been sustained through su ordi-oary day's picket firing. That of the enemy must have been more severe, as they exposed themselves in firing their first volley, and were in full range of our batteries, greatly superior in number to theirs.Col.Griffin A.Steadman, of the 11th command, who has been in command of a brigade, was severely if not fatally wouaded by a mus iket shot through the stomach. The Tribune's Washington special says Gen Ames was dangerously wounded in the side, in the charge made by the Confederates after the explosion of their mine The N.Y.HerahCt City Point correspondent, Aug.4, says Gen.Grant and a portion of his staff Ibft for Washington the day previous.Ttje Herald's correspondent, Department of Suscptehanna, says : High authorities ac^uaint- tbe already strong claim which binds the first federal republic of America and the oldest and foremost federal republic of Europe. The people of Switzerland may rest assured, whoever else may fail, that it will not be the people of the United States who will betray the republican system to foreign enemies, or surrender it
