Titre :
Morning chronicle and commercial and shipping gazette
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

another LBITEB.Mr.Wbsbtox Babkxs bas written another open letter to the newspapers, on his favorite theme—a commercial union between Canada and the United States. The present letter is addressed to the Hoo.James A.Gaatibld, and like its predecessor it harps on the same string, and is as full of illogical ideas and crude I search.speculation as the rem it kable a°d j Principal DaWiOX has led his readers to an examination of the differ- FOSSIL MEN.Canadians the world over should feel justly proud of Principal Davtoom of Mo Gill University, Montreal. He bas done more to make his and our country known and resp eted abroad among sebol&rs, and scientists and literary men generally, than almost any otber living Can tdian. For the last five an i twenty years his nsme has been more or less pro minently identified with the geology and mineralogy of Acadia and Canada proper* His researches in his chosen field of studjy have been untiring, unremitting and most exhaustive, and his efiorts in a little time promise to reap as golden a reward, as the splendid work of Sib Charles Lybll and the extensive performances of Sib Kodbeugk Mubohuox, in the same direction. The study of geology is full of grand aims and results, its scope is almost limitless, and the diligent student in the amplification of his work, finds in every fresh investigation, rarer and nobler beauties in that science, which abovfe ail others, is best fitted to beautify, to enrich and to make full the mind.At first the student, and subsequently the companion of Sut Chab-lbs Ltbll, Principal Dawson has prosecuted his scientific labors under good direction.Of late years his studies and investigations have borne excellent fruit, and the faithful teacher bas been able to add many additions to the lore which he has made peculiarity his own.It is curious to note the growth and system of Professor Dawsjx’s mind since he gave to the public, his scholarly volume entitled “Acadian Geology" in 1855.At first his writings were largely technical, aod conveyed to the reader the idea that they were mainly intended for the use of studeots learning the mysteries of geologic formation, and arcbætogic re-Gradually, and with oonsum- rambitng twaddle which he sent to the Hoo.G so rob Bbowv, some four or five weeks ago.Such reasoning as Mr.Babxxb indulges in can find no favor in the eyes of Canadians. It is too specious and too one-sided to meet with popular acceptance on this side of the line.In plain English it is a direct plea for annexation, veiled in the flimsiest and gaus:est fabric, a specie of ostrich-like concealment of true purposes, wh ch can deceive nobody.Mr.Babkbb paints in glowing terms the beauties of his new scheme, which involves toe total annihila* tion of the displeasing and expensive Custom House, and seems to think that his charming novelty has only to be presented to the Canadian mind to ensure Us immediate adoption. He suggests, it is true, that we may perhaps have a friendly feeling towards England, and he generously concedes his permis* •ion to allow us to indulge that fancy, or friendly feeling, or Whatever it maybe.Canada’s political relations, he remarks in italics, wbicb we have not disturbed, “are not our (bis) concern." “So long," he goes on again, **0.SPECIAL FROM MONTREAL.Mcxtuaa, May 4—Jacob and Moses
