Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

1394.This report, he added, was drawn up in the Third Bureau of the General Staff and consequently an indiscretion might have been committed by an officer employed in the bureau. The de position of Lieut.Col.Du Paty du Clam, which was taken by Magistrate Travanier, was then read.It was remarkable as being a repetition of Du Paty du Clam's former evidence, than as containing any new’ revelations. This was what the defence feared, and the reason they declared they had little faith in the result of an ex-parte examination. In his deposition Lieut.Col.Du Paty du Clam complains of calumnies of which he had been the victim, and which Capt.Cuignet had not succeeded in proving, declaring furs ther that he had no relations with the late Lieut.-Col.Henry, but admitting relations with Major Esterhazy.Du Paty du Clam affirms that in com- nunicating the secret dossier to the court martial of 1894 he acted purely as a messenger, and knows nothing more.He says Dreyfus always proclaimed his innocence. The ition ended with copies of letters from Madame Dreyfus, establishing the fact that Lieut.-Col.Du Paty du Clams relations with her were always court- cous.‘The court martial adjourned for the day on the conclusion 0?the reading of Du Paty du Clam’s deposition. As the audience was leaving the court room, Lieut-Col.Picquart's brother- inlaw, Gast, rushed at Commandant Lauth, and tried to strike him for having introduced the subject of Picquart’s mistress in his testimony today.Gendarmes intervened and persuaded M.Gast to leave the precincts of the opinion that it is unable to accept the proposals made by the Transvaal in the despatches of August 19 and August 21, by which the term for obtaining the franchise was fixed at five years and the resentation of the Witwaters and district was increased. The Government regrets this the more inasmuch ax it considered itæelf able to deduce from the negotiations previous to its farmal proposals that remains of the opinion that its proposals arz extremely liberal and more extensive than those presented by’ the British High Commissioner at Bloemfontaine. It is also of the opinion that the conditions attached to these proposals are reasonable : "The Transvaal never desired Great Britain to abandon any rights 1Ssessed by virtue af the London &n focenee of 1884 or by virtue of the tends to the helief that Cabinet Council will result in an ultimatum, followed by an immediate backdown on the part of the Boers, or the commencement of hostilities by Great Britain. This feeling, however, is founded on the trend of recent negotiations and is often forgotten that in these Mr.Chamberlain bad practically a free hand, and was not hindered by the cautious Conservatism, which undoubtedly will characterize the deliberations of the full Cabinet counsel. The Pall Mall Gazette to-day says : “It is foared that during the past 24 hours the probability of war has be come appreciably greater.’ The paper, however, prints no news, except that received yesterday to justify this assertion.Advices from various sources indicate that the acute tension in ail parts of South Africa continues. But unless the Boers take the initiative, which at present is improbable, it is pretty certain that the issue of peace or war lies solely in the result of Friday's Cabinet council, hence, public attention is centered mare upon the signs of the times as exhibited at the army stations and dockyards than in South Africa itself, though news from there is eagerly watched, chiefly owing to the uneany feeling that the Buera might end the diplomatic tangle by raiding Natal. It is reported thix afterroon that Mr.Chamberlain has sent a reply through Sir Alfred Milner, to the Tranwveal Government's lalest proposition. The latter ix generally understood to be a withdrawal of the former concessions, and a tentative agreement for a further conference.Tt seems improbable that Mr.Chamberlain has done this, ++++444 4446444444 THE GROUNDING OF THE ALMERIAN Wag Run on Skore After Striking a Reef NO.1HOLD IS FULL OF WATER WORK OF DISCHARGING CARGO PROGRESSING RAPIDLY —THE
