Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

rial councils.and I believe that 1 will | not die before I see the Prime Minis ter of this colony sitting at the Imporial council board, with the Prime Minister of England." The Minister of Public Works is on the right track, though he has had to switch round | some rather sharp curves to get there.Iu the distance he can discover a new | development of our national life, and, | although he may mot outline it accurately, ber has grasped its significance, namely, the strengthening of the Empire.A proportionate influence in the : Imperial councils would not mean , much if it did sot ensure greater cooperation in the matter of defence and of trade. The time for a British pre ference on British goods is rapidly | ripening, and if Mr.Tarte and colleagues have & mind to do so they | a great work for Canada and the Em- | pire in that connectian.pe ES The Duke of Manchester, who created a society sensation lately by joining the stafl of the New York Journal, is now representing that paper at the Imperial Parliament. His grace is giving some solid chunks of truth to his American readers.Speaking of the opening proceedings he said: “The one thing that, to me, stood out in both houses was {he absolute unanimity of both parties on one point, criticise other points as (hey might, every speaker was emphatio in this, that the war should be prosecuted to its end with a determination and completeness that would Jeave no room for the possibility of its recurrence in South Africa. If the Boers had counted on the support of even a minority in England, let them wrench this false hope frony their hearts and cast it from, them.Great Britain has risen froma sense of her responsibilities, and is ab- | solutely united in her determination to! settle this question vatisfactorily once : for all.” This às a good antidote for many of the other despatches now ap; pearing in the American yellow journals.————— HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF.Once on a time a nation Was Leaten in every fray, And the people in consternation, ere tried with a sore dismay. For the bravest and best of their armies | Turned from the flight to flee | From the | front of old Stonewall Jacksoi And the face cf Robert E, Lee!
