Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

but putting].those aside, and looking to tbe more sordid paotives of self-interest, which vide would it be best for the white the nsillioge of Ching comstitute a veritable Yellow Peril, is it safest for the world 4¢hat these usillions under the in| fiuency and do: of Reste, as thoy ssœurpdly ee À La il she is the victér, ‘or of Japan ?Ît is, of course, difficult, even impossible to predies the future.An alliance briwees Ohind and Japen,: and the building up of a new world Power in the Faf Rast, may, no doubt, lead eventually lo an aggres- ive policy os ita part, but, os the | other hand neither ‘China nor Japan| have over shown signs of any other desire than to be alfourd to mansge tbeie oun affaires in peace, without troubling themselves about their neighbors, or coveting their territors ies.Busiip, on | tbe contrary, has never ceased ‘from destroying the strength and independence of contiguous states.She has gathered in the whole of the cosst lice of the Arctic ocean from Finland to Biheria.She has annexed the Caucasus, aod the Asiatic possessions of Turkey iomnediately adjacent: the Black Sea is virtually a | Russian lake, and the Baltic very little better.She has pushed forward her possessions in Central Asia, is intriguing in Asiatic Turkey, Persia and Aflghanistan and Thibet, and makes no secret of her designs upon India.The acquisition of the whole of Asis is ber ultimate end, end if the millions ol China are thrown into her lap, there ix no power on earth that can prevent her from getting it.That is the mal Yellow Peril, the Yellow Peril that is fraught with doom to the independence of Europe.THRE QUEBEC 2 LAKY BUBON RAILWAY.We published yesterday the resulu- tions sdopted by our Board of Trade in connection with this railway J they vhow the intenwe feeling of our busi- nexs ten ia favor of the cansiruction uf that line.At the rame time our City Council, presided over by itn Mayor, Mr, Parent, bas sho pamed the following resolutions :— “This Couneil notices with pleasute this additional proof of the increasing interest which the leading | businens men take in the 8t.Lawrence highway for traffic and cspecislly, in the north shore of our mighty river, as vffcring the shortest line oi communi.tation between North America and Europe.“hat the building of this railway would attain the long looked for object of the shortest practicable bigh- way for transportation between the renires of the grain producing dis- tricte of this continent and liverpool, the point of distribution in Europe.‘That this projected line of rail way is vf paramount interest to the Province of Quebec, as it would open to the lumber trade, to colonisation and to agriculture, immense regions now inaccessible from the actual centres of population, aod would vastly increase the wealth of this Province, ‘both in capital and in revenue.“That this Council views with the greatest satisfaction this new enterprise which would bring to our city ita share of the western trade amd develop the natural resources of the port of Quebec, which tanks among the largest and safest ports of the world.* “That the construction of this road in conjunction with the building of our stupendous bridge over the St.Lawrence, nrar Quebec, vastly increases the value of our port as a port of entry and exportation, and will afford easy and rupid communi: cations between Quebec apd New Eng.Jand ses ports in one direction and with our exesllerit winter ports of Hulifax and St.John, NB, in another direction.“That for all the sbove reasons, thin Council would be most happy to find the Government and the Parliament of Canada ready to place this enterprise on the list of thowe which are, hy statute, declared to be of national impoMance, and help its promoters by allowing noch grants and aubsidies as are gonérally accorded in such cases.” not only been recognized by bodies Tho importance of thin railroad hes like our Board of Trade and our Oity Council, but the Colonisation Commission, in its reports put its the firet rank of roads to receive a land subsidy in theso words : “From the point of view of the trade of the Wert and as a meas to bring that trade to the port of Quebec and the ft.Lawrence route, the Quebec & Lake Huron Railway is pro- hahly the most important enterprise of the Province, “Acoonding to the documents laid before the Commission, the part of this railway comprised in the Provinoe of Unebwe will ha/380 mijen long.From Quebee ta Ri, uriee, a dia- ap vere oh d ocolgniaation’y qe st.— ©.the Ugg it] iH a, trough the cmd 1 shy Mattawin plateau, of the.ugiper wate ers of the rivers Lievre and Gatinoau, and through, the fine lapds of the County of Ponkiwe, Colonisation + has thate ane.ol.the Anesth Selds A tant Pafaing through the ver;
