during the last couple of days to the effect that prisoners who have been transferred to the gaol of this district from Montreal are being released here upon the expiration of their sentences, instead of being taken hack to the former city.idents on the Grande Alley have reccived visite within the past few days from at least two individuals claiming to have just been released from gaol and who sought aid to enable them to reach their former homes in Montreal, from which place they had, owing to the congested condition of the gaol there, heen sent to Quebec to serve their sentences in the gaol of thi.district.The stories told by then certainly gave much evi dence of credibility, and their © com laint that the romise to return hem to Montreal after their sentence had been served acemed to have soma foundation. The two alleged ex: prisoners claim that among the fifty or more prisoners recently sent here from Montreal are rome of the worst toughs and scamps of that city, and il those dregs of humanity are also to be liberated in Quebee, it is certainly time that our citizens should learn it the rumor is founded on any basis of truth.Complaint was made along the samo line some years ago when prisoners were sent hers from other geols, and it was at that time announced that all prisoners sent to Quebec from outside places would be taken back tn the place where they were sentenced when their terms of tmprisonment had been served, and not dumped upon Quebec.NDIES BORDEAUX, : (Established 1781) LAW, YOUNG & 08, « = + Agents for Canada and Newfoundland meeting then
