Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

benefit to Mr.Jos.Vezina, to which we fully agree: — “It was with pleasure that we read in the Chronicle, and reproduced by us yesterday, the amiable letter written by Mr, Wiggs in connection with the recent concert given by the Quebec Symphony Society. This homage by an glish-speaking citizen of a French-Cauvadian artist is a very timely one.“Mr.Wigge' idea is that Quebecers should join together and tender a benefit concert to Mr.Jos.Verina, the devoted musical director of the Symphony Suciety. He certainly well deserves such a recognition as he las spent so many years of bis talent and energy for art, in a most unassuring manner.“However, a magnificent occasion now present itself.lt is well known that Mr.Vezina has set to music one of the finest works, written by our former Provincial Premier, Hon.G.Marchand, ‘Le Laureat,' is the title of the opera and consists of an incident in a student's life; the scene is laid in Quebec and the personages ara old acquaintances of this city.To this story Nr.Vezina bas given a musical setting, not composed of in coherent airs, as are too uiten heard at the theatre, but a complete work, homogeneous and consistent from overture to the end, For a long time the author has entertained the Éope, with #mall certainty of success,of being able to produce his work amidst the sum tuous surroundings of the silage of the Auditorium. The roles have n distributed and studied, the chorusses are known, the orchest:ation all prepared.Alter a few rehearsals the affair would Many sufferers blame their poor FOR Federation Will Urge Upon the Government, In connection with our article om the pélotage question now under most serious consideration by the Government by the shipping interests and by the Corporation of Pilots itself, it now transpires that the statement in the article appertaining to the settle ment of the maticr is rather preme- ture. The couse as it stands at pre sent is that it is.admitted on all vides that a thorough and exhaustive reorganization of the system must be accomplished.During the past week im.t conferences have been held tween the repreventatives of the in- terewted bodies above referred to and st present all these are conferring with their principals and within the next week another in:portanit meeting will possibly be held in Montreal at which a definite understanding will be arrived at.It is plain thet the Shi [og Foderation, who are most vitally in this great movement, are most desirous of acting in a thoroughly generous and fair manner with the pilots. It is, we telieve, {ar from | their intention to aot in an erbi- | trary manner, and they wish, while preXicting their) own intensity, to aseist in providing ample support for those pilots who have long and faithfully gerved in their vocation. At t amount at the dispositi of the Corporation of Pilote or ihe purpose of providing for their aged and infirm snembers, allows only an amount of about $200 per angum to sach, and it js admitted that this amount is aheolutely insufficient for a man who has pr lv given 30 or 38 years of his life to this occupation.Poseibly therefore the Shipping Federation at their further conlerence may urge on the Government to take over the capital now in the hands of the Corporation of Pilots, augment this sum by other amounts which have bem raised in the pest by the shipping interests of the ports of Montreal and Quebec and by this means provide a capital amount sufficient to allow a competent amount to be given to those pilots who are unfit for service. Then by the Government taking a rigil contro] of ‘the system, the very best men may be selected, and means teken to encourage young and active mea to avail themselves of this profession and cultivate and foster this idea among these young men, who would make excellent pilots and competent, intellignt navigators of our great waterway.ELECTORS OF MONTCALM WARD To-day your
