Titre :
The Quebec chronicle
La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

[Traduction]
Voici les différents titres que le Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph a connus depuis ses débuts : Disponibles en ligne : The Morning Chronicle (Jan. 1847 - Nov. 1850) The Morning Chronicle and Commercial and Shipping, 1850-1888 The Morning Chronicle (Feb. 1888 - May 1888) The Quebec Morning Chronicle, 1888-1898 The Quebec Chronicle, 1898-1924 Non disponible en ligne : The Chronicle Telegraph (1925-1934) The Québec Chronicle-Telegraph (1934 à ce jour)

loading sad unlomding of vesecls in comparison to the port of Quebec, that has no equipment whutever, not even a crane, aml ju cofierquence the handling ol cargoes is nat only extremely slow, but too notwithstunding, the Commis vionees persist in defiance of that opitdon, and keep their | business secret. It har been said that the Commission through their Secretary have ever been ready to give out advocated by the Chronicle to encourage out- vide capitalists to establish a branch of their factories in the city of Quebes is evidently assuming practical consideration, and {4 is to be hoped that such a committee will be form- od without much loss of time.On Tuesday last Mr.L.A.Moisan brought the importent matter before « genernl mecting of the Quebec Board of Trade, and wuggested tliat Me.T.LeVamseur, Secretary of the Board, would make & suitable sccre- tary in connection with the Board duties for the proposed bureau.A resolution was finally odoptad that the Quebec Board of Trade should communicate with the City Council on the subject with the object of both bodies forming æ joint industrial com- mitiee to promote the extablishment of new industries in Quebec. In view of the steps taken by the Board of Trade, a Chronicle reporter called upon Mayor Garneau at his office in the City Hall yesterday forenoon to learn his opinion on the matter.Mayor Garneau anid he had read the proceedings of tha Board in the Chronicle, and was favorably impressed with ths idea of an industrial bureau, and was prepared to receive a committee from the Board of Trade to discuss the question and come to an arrangement by whick-the city and Board could’ agree upon the salary to be paid io the necrafary. He said that he waa convinced that Mr.'T.LeVasscur was a capable man to fill the porition, ineonnection with bis Board of Trade dutics, and be thought that nomething practical might be the outenme of the experiment. The work done by the Hemilton, Ont, Industrial Committee, who succeeded in inducing no less than sixty-five manufacturers to invest in tha establishment of industries of that industrial Western city, was pointed out to His Worship.and he appeared perfectly familiar with the informe- tion advanced, and at the same time showed he was in favar of the proposed bureau, or any other good thing that might advance the business in- terents of Quebec. The question of the emtablishment of an industrial bureau in Ouebeq.to encourage outside capitalists to erect and manage new manufacturing enterprises in this cilv, ie now up to the Queher Board of Trade, and {he sooner a sub-committee ix appointed to confer with the City Council the better ft will be for the city and all concern A CORKECTION.In yesterday's report of the pro- oéedings of the Waterworks moved that the tender be received and opened. This motion was supported by Ald.Mathie, while Aki.Shink and Mulroney voted against it.As à casting vote had to be given, Mayor Garnewu, who is ex-officio member of all commit.tues, voted in favor of Ald.Duquet's motion, and Mr.Parent's tender was considered lika all others. However, Mr.L.H.Potors’ tender was the lowest and received the unanimous Co.’s reserve, or enjoyed the natural | beauties of the charming resort.i At the picnic ground a fine pro £remme of: races, ete, wers carried out, and provided grost sport for the big gathering. The events were run | under the direction of very offi- | cient officials and in a manner most satisfactory to all.Lieut.Norman : Fletcher was an impartial judge, Mr.R.Mayne head was a successful clerk of the course, keeping the programme moving satisfactorily, and F R.Gelley officiated ns starter with ability.A large orchestra supplied music in the spacious pavilion for the dancers, and this was one of the most popular attractions of the day, the devoters of the “light fantastic” occupying the floor with vigor the entire day. This portion of the entertainment was under the direction of Me.Robt.Crotty, who acted as floor manager with his usual success. His assistante were Messrs.N, Grenier and P.Giroux, and all worked hard to make their por tion of the day's entertainment a pleasant one. While a goodly portion of the pic nic party returned to town in the evening, many remained over at Kent House, where a most enjoyable ending to the day's pleasure wos had.Munager Baker was to the fore in making their stay at Kent House pleasant and dancing and a thoroughly social time helped to pass away the hours until the last car for town was announced and all returning about midnight greatly delighted with the first day's experience of ihe annual pic-nie.The second division of the employes will have their pic-nic Wednesday next. The committee in charge of the pic- nie, and to whom great credit is due for organizing and successfully carrying out the most successful pic-nic ever held by the employes, was composed of the following :—H.N.Bartlett, chairman ; J.A.Everill, A.P, Doddridge, W.Langford, N.Grenier, R.Crotty, Hogan, R.Mayne Reade, R.Gelley.The winners in the races and games yesterday were as follows :— 1.One hundred yards (employes vver 44 yeurs)—lst, W.Beach; ind, À.Bruyere ; 3rd, Geo.Boisvert ; ith, J.Desnoyer.2.Girls under 6—1st, G.Kennedy ; 2nd, Rose Legare; 3rd, J.Lepage ; 4th, 8.Vezina.3.One hundred yards (30 to 40 years)—lst, G.Duchaine; 2nd, N.Pouliot ; 3rd, A.Fournier; #h, N.Marceau.4.Boys under G—1st, Whiting ; 2nd, D.McMahon ; 3rd, A.Levasseur ; 4th, C.‘Kennedy.: 5.Employes (20 to 30 years)—lat, I.Kell; 2nd, P.Moran ; 3rd, G.Cote; 4th, A.Shanahan.6.Girls (6 to.10)—l1st, 8, Keough ; 2nd, Rose levasseur; 3rd, Mina Crotty ; 4th, 8.Beach.7.Boys (6 to 10)—lst, Begin; 2nd, L.Dumais ; 3rd, H.Crotty ; 4th, W, on Hunter; 5th, J.Hervey; 6th, H.Beach.R.Employes (13 to 20)—lat, J.Walsh; 2nd, J.Bartlett; 3rd, W, Marquis ; 4th, Nadeau.9.Girls (10 to 15)—let, A.Gelley ; 2nd, M.Moran; 3rd, M.Vezina ; 4th, Lemoine ; 5th, Beach; 6th, Robitaille.16.Boye (10 to 15)—Ist, W.Harvey ; 2nd, L.Grenier and G.Atherton; 3rd, Whiting; 4th, J.Dimais.11.Putting 16 ™.shot—1st, P.Moran, 30.6; 2ud, McDonough, 28.7 ; 3rd, J, Coughlin, 25.10.12.Girls (15 to M)—lat, A.Gelley ; 2nd, B.Robitaille ; 3rd, Bonheur ; 4th, J.Paradis and À.Sutclifie ; 5th, P.Temelin ; 6th, L.Lepage.13.Tong jump—lst, Kennedy, 13.1 ; nd, P.Moran, 12.11 ; $ed.T.Kell, 12.10.14.Ladies (20 to M—Ist, J.Paradis; nd, C.lepage; 3rd, L.Vezina ; 4th, Teasler.18.Quarter mile—1st, J.Baker : 2nd.Pouliot ; 3rd, Kennedy ; 4th, C.Bruere.18.Married women (30 ta 60)—tet, Mdme, Fournier: 3nd, Mdme.la.france: Med.Mdme.Tessard : 4th, Mdme.Boucher; 5th, Mdme.Gellev.17.High ivmp—1at, Michel ; Sad, Cote : 2rd, Desnoyers.18.Putting 28 ®.shot—Iat, P.Maran.21.9: Ind, Roach, 16.9; 3nd, Tremblay, 17.4.19.Han-sten-and-jump—lat, Ward, 32.3; 2nd, J.Roach, 31.7; Md, P.Norsn, 31.6.MANAGER JUST BACK.Mr.F.A.Moyette, of Ottawa, who astimed the management of the piano and organ department of the firm of P.T.Vegnre, of thie ejty, is fust back from the Toronto Exhibition and other points whre pianos and or.gona are monnfactured on a large wale, Mr.Mevoits haw shosen from the axhibitz an exten fiom Tot of fn.ntrimente, whith will be shipped in à few days to be hero on time for the opening of the pew warernoma “hich Soon as placed In the mouth It starts the Saliva flowing, which at once gets to work dissolving it.The Saliva becomes blended with the Candy Cascaret tablet, and from the moment they start going down your throat together they start working together. Now, what do they work af?Bowelwork, of course, —Digestion. Some foiks think Digestion takes place in the Stomach only. But that's a great mistake! Most of the Digestion occurs in the thirty fest of Iniestines that connect with the Stomach. Now, these Intestines are 30 fost long, for a purpose. They src Xned with @ set of little mouths, that squeeze Digestive Juices foto the Food eaten.et The Digestive Juices thus mix with 1mEË QUELRO CHRONICLE.; & ae ES SE en mer ir 2" À ENJOYABLE PICNIC| How Good Food may ) 39 | ru Qing of tn GAL.4 turn to Poison et — .“a BCAY sot you ue = Selva mize | OFFICIAL RECEPTION|THE AMERICANISTS| the Fale.Tao, ra am use tan nee ee that food into nourishment; as it pames s'eng the channel.Ths Intestines are also fined with mile Bans of little suction pempe, that desw the Nutriment from Food, ag it pesses them in going through, * * * This Nutriment is then carried into fhe Blood, and spread over the Body se Brain, Bone and Brawn. But, when the Bowel-Musciss are week, the Food moves too slowly to stimulate the little Gastric Mouths and there is no flow, or too little flow of Digestive Julos, to change the food into nourishment. Then, the food decays in the Bowels, and in the thirty feet of Intestines. When this Decay begins the litte suo- thon pumps draw Poison from the Food, into the blood, Instead of the Nutrition ft should have drawn.- Now, Casearets contain the only combination of drugs that Stimulates these Muscles of the Bowels and Intestines Just as a Cold Bath, or open-air Exercise, stimulates a Lazy Man.Cascarets therefore act like Exercise. They produce the same sort of Natural result that a Six Mile walk is the country would produce, without any Injurlous Chemical effect.* * * The Vest Pocket Cascaret Box Is sold by ail Druggists, at Ten Cents.Be sure you get the genuine, made only by the Sterling Remedy Company, and never sold in bulk.Every tablet stamped “cee.” , À sample and the famous booklet “‘Curas of Constipation,” Free for the asking.Address Sterling Remedy Company, Chicago “vr New York.ns TOP OF THE MORNING TO YOU ! for without forcing the situation, it is almost impossible to keep men who have played lacrosse entirely out of Rugby, and all lacrosse players, according to the Canadian Amateur Athletic Union rulings, are professionals. The matter has been seriously discussed in Montreal, as the probabilities are that one or two lacrosse players may go in for Rugby this season. The sume situation presents itself in Ottewa, and action is almost unavoidable. If a meeting to decide the point in question should be held, and if it should be decided that the rule which is now in force in the National Lacrosse Union, and in the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association be adopted, the troubles of the Quebec Rugby Union will only ba commene- ing.The rule referred to saye : ‘“Amateurs shall be permitted to play with professionals.” Now, in Ottawa, from news received here, Harvey Pulford, Alf.Smith and Arthur Moore have already announced that if out and out professionals are permitted to intermingle with the other players.they will withdraw.Bere in Montreal the Westmount Club, if it sticks to the position it har taken in regard - to lacrosse, will almost surely withdraw from the Union.Yet a prominent member of the Wonireal Club, whn holds a high position in the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association, seems to think that there ir nothing for it to dn.hut to pass the rule above referred to.If Westmount should withdraw {hic would give opportunity for another club to take up its dates.NATIONALS MAY COME, There was to have been a practice of the Quebte Incrosse team on the Q.A.A.grounds last evening, but it was called off until this evening. As al ready stated.the executive has been in correspondence with some of the senior teams with a view to securing an exhibition game here.It is likel.that terms will be made with the senior Nationals for a match.THF.KICKERS’ COLUMN.A football player always has a kick. Some players are roasted on the gridiron, A few players reach their goal in life on the football field.Hardware stores make good tackles. The quarter-back hasn't always a quarter. And some huif-backs baven't even | 50 cents.Wing men are auot always flyers. The bull doesn’t always go into touch for money.ATHLETIC NOOM IN GREECE, Ukited States Consul Geo.Horton writes from Athens that the Olympie gumes have nroused a very general | interest in athletics among the Greek people. Two wealthy Greeks of Egypt, Meusrs.Rostoviz and Teanakles, have presented $60,000 to | the Government for the erection of à gymnasium at Athens, the building and equipment of which will be personally superintended by Crown Prince Constantine. The Swedish avatem of gymnastics will be largely followed, and, if present plans are carried ont, officers of the Swedish army will be _ employed as in- atruêtors.During the first three vears the running expenses will be defrayed by the two founders.GREAT TROTTING.Syracuse, N.Y., Sept.12—The Grand Circuit races at the State Fair Grounds today was characterized by some notable turf work, which stirred the enthusiasm of & record-breaking crowd to a high pitch. Before the races proper, W.L.Snow drove Allen’s Boy to beat 2.16 pacing. He Hd it in 2.00}.The second quarter in 29) was a remarkable showing, considering the comlition of the track In the second heat of the 2.05 trot ting race, Sweet Marie was driven by Alta P.McDonald for a record, ing the first quarter in 314, the Fair 1.02, three-quarters in 1.334, and the mile in 2.034, lowering her own mark huli a second, trotting = the fastest mile ol the year and lowering the world's recard for trotting mares in a raes by hall a second.BASEBALL RESULTS, (Eastern.)
