Sous un titre qui a varié (Morning Chronicle, Quebec Morning Chronicle, Quebec Chronicle), un journal de langue anglaise publié à Québec qui met notamment l'accent sur l'actualité commerciale et maritime. [...]
Fondé en 1847 par Robert Middleton et Charles Saint-Michel, ce journal est d'abord connu sous le nom de Morning Chronicle. Son programme éditorial est tourné vers les intérêts britanniques, ce qui plaît aux conservateurs et aux impérialistes. Toutefois, cela n'en fait pas une publication politique pour autant puisque l'on y évite les longs éditoriaux et les sujets polémiques, probablement pour se différencier du Quebec Gazette, ancien employeur de Middleton et féroce concurrent. Le contenu est plutôt centré sur l'actualité (majoritairement en provenance d'autres journaux anglais et américains), sur la vie commerciale et maritime, ainsi que sur la littérature (peu présente pendant les premières années). La ligne éditoriale du journal est définie comme suit : « [.] in the management of The Morning Chronicle we shall, therefore, begin by simply declaring, that, as we glory in our connexion with the British Empire, it will be our undeviating aim and unremitting endeavour, to create and foster a cordial attachment to those time-honoured institutions which have made her so illustrious in the annals of the world ». (May 18, 1847, p. 2)

« [...] la direction de The Morning Chronicle, par conséquent, débute en déclarant simplement que, comme nous sommes très fiers de notre relation avec l'Empire Britannique, notre but sera sans détour de créer et d'entretenir un attachement aux honorables institutions britanniques, qui se sont grandement illustrées à travers l'histoire mondiale ». Sous Charles Saint-Michel (1849-1860), le journal devient le porte-parole des aspirations de la bourgeoisie commerciale anglaise et les sujets politiques prennent une part plus importante. L'esprit protectionniste, rattaché au torysme, teinte la rédaction. Durant la période de la Confédération, le Morning est utilisé comme tribune pour faire la promotion des idées de John A. Macdonald. Toutefois, l'attrait premier du journal reste avant tout la vie relative au commerce. En 1874, une fusion avec The Quebec Gazette met fin à une concurrence jugée ruineuse. Fondé en juin 1764, c'est l'un des plus vieux journaux d'Amérique du Nord. Une nouvelle entente survient en 1924. Pour mettre fin à une concurrence qui les affaiblit, le journal alors connu sous le nom de Quebec Chronicle and Quebec Gazette et le Quebec Daily Telegraph (fondé en 1875 par James Carrel, il défend les idées populaires et est reconnu comme étant libéral) s'associent et deviennent le Chronicle Telegraph. Les nouvelles prennent une place prépondérante dans les colonnes de la « nouvelle » publication. À partir de 1934, le journal est connu sous le nom The Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph. Il paraît toujours aujourd'hui.
